Towards a Model of Designing an Organizational Structure in a Knowledge Based Society

    Get PDF
The role of the manager in the knowledge society is to lead, in a productive and cost effective manner, a system that is at the crossroads of three worlds: the environment, the human and the organization. To ensure the continuity of the organization, the manager must choose an appropriate structure that would enable it to increase productivity, improve quality of goods and maintain the motivation, satisfaction and involvement of the human factor. Changes promoted by the influences of organizational theories and knowledge management have resulted in reducing the emergence of hierarchical levels, formal control, in a low degree of formalization in general and in the emergence of deconstructed forms. The concept of organizational design is promoted by structuring the organization and seeks to ensure consistency among strategy, structure and incentive systems of the organization, an idea which also represents the basis of the organizational perspective imposed by Mintzberg(1990). This paper builds upon the three main theories that have influenced the design of organizational structure and proposes an integrated model that takes into account the changes promoted by knowledge management and aims at satisfying human resources quantification.structure, organizational design, knowledge management, contingency, model, approach

‘Retournement’ of the aedeagus in Curculionidae (Coleoptera, Curculionoidea)

    Get PDF
Retournement or turning of the aedeagus about its longitudinal axis through about 180o during development is known in Chrysomeloidea (Coleoptera). This change in the orientation of the organ may be observed during the postembryonic development. This change produces certain morphological effects. By observing these morphological features in the imago the retournement may be inferred. Such morphological features in Curculionidae (Coleoptera) are here recorded. From this it has been inferred not only that retournement of the aedeagus is included in the ontogeny of curculionids, but also that the change of orientation of the organ occurs by the same mechanism as in Chrysomeloidea. These inferences attest the notion of a close phyletic relationship between the superfamilies Curculionoidea and Chrysomeloidea

Accounting For Endogenous Search Behavior in Matching Function Estimation

We show that equilibrium matching models imply that standard estimates of the matching function elasticities are exposed to an endogeneity bias, which arises from the search behavior of agents on either side of the market. We offer an estimation method which, under certain assumptions, is immune from that bias. Application of our method to the estimation of a basic version of the matching function using aggregate U.S. data from the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) suggests that the bias is quantitatively important.matching function estimation, unemployment, vacancies, job finding

    Get PDF
According to a canonical conception of rationality, consumers’ behavior results from given preferences. In environmental economics, the ecological sensibility of consumers so takes the shape of a green preference integrated into the utility function. Economics of conventions relaxes the hypothesis of substantial rationality by emphasizing on the plurality of reasons for action for the individuals. By underlining, from empirical studies, that the behavior of the agents is inflexible in a unique causal explanation (in terms of preferences), a conventionalist conception of the ecological sensibility will lean on the values claimed by the agents and the forms of justifications when it is question of concrete actions in favour of the environment
