Hybrid Prototypes to Assist Modeling Automotive Seats
The development of new modular seats is an important issue in the automotive industry.
However, is very time consuming and costly. Virtual models and hybrid prototypes could
accelerate the car seats development process. The hybrid prototypes are mainly manufactured by
rapid prototyping with multi materials. The objective of this paper is to establish a methodology
to develop innovative lightweight multi-functional, modular car seats to be used in Multi-Purpose
Vehicles (MPV), by means of FEA simulation and rapid prototyping additive/subtractive
technologies utilizing multi materials. A case study is presented to validate the developed
methodology. The manufactured hybrid prototype’s reproduces the main functionalities of the
MPV modular seat, namely its three key positions: normal, stored and table.Mechanical Engineerin
A Clinico-epidemiological Study Of Bites By Spiders Of The Genus Phoneutria.
From January, 1984 to December, 1996, 422 patients (ages 9 m-99 y, median 29 y) were admitted after being bitten by spiders which were brought and identified as Phoneutria spp. Most of the bites occurred at March and April months (29.2%), in the houses (54.5%), during the day (76.5%), and in the limbs (feet 40.9%, hands 34.3%). Upon hospital admission, most patients presented only local complaints, mainly pain (92.1%) and edema (33.1%) and were classified as presenting mild (89.8%), moderate (8.5%) and severe (0.5%) envenomation. Few patients (1.2%) did not present signs of envenomation. Severe accidents were only confirmed in two children (9 m, 3 y). Both developed acute pulmonary edema, and the older died 9 h after the accident. Patients more than 70 year-old had a significantly greater (p<0.05) frequency of moderate envenomations compared to the 10-70-year-old individuals. Proceedings to relief local pain were frequently performed (local anesthesia alone 32.0%, local anesthesia plus analgesics 20.6% and oral analgesics alone 25. 1%). Only 2.3% of the patients (two cases classified as severe and eight as moderate, eight of them in children) were treated with i.v. antiarachnid antivenom. No antivenom early reaction was observed. In conclusion, accidents involving the genus Phoneutria are common in the region of Campinas, with the highest risk groups being children under 10 years of age and adults over 70 years of age. Cases of serious envenomation are rare (0.5%).4217-2

Association between genomic daughter pregnancy rate and expected milk production on the resumption of estrus behavior in Holstein cattle
The objective of this observational study was to evaluate estrous expression at the first estrus occurring between 7 to 30 d in milk (DIM), as detected by an automated activity monitor (AAM), and its association with genomic daughter pregnancy rate (GDPR) and genomic expected milk production (GEM) in lactating dairy cows. A total of 4,119 lactations from 2,602 Holstein cows were included. Cows were enrolled as first lactation (n = 1,168), second lactation (n = 1,525) and third and greater lactation (n = 1,426). Hair samples were collected from the tail switch, and cows were genotyped using an SNP platform (Clarifide, Zoetis, São Paulo, SP, Brazil). Postpartum cows were examined daily by the farm personnel from calving until 10 DIM. Calving was classified as assisted (forced calf extraction) and unassisted (normal calving). Retained fetal membranes (RFM), hyperketonemia (KET), and left displaced abomasum (LDA) were also recorded. Mean GDPR (± SD) was −0.29 ± 1.4, and the intensity and duration of the first estrus event was 15.9 ± 13.1 x-factor (intensity unit measurement) and 11.1 ± 3.8 h, respectively. Cows that had greater GDPR had greater intensity and longer duration of estrus at the alert, independent of parity. Overall resumption of estrous expression, between 7 to 30 DIM, was 41.2% (1,695/4,119), where 58.8% (2,424/4,119) did not have an estrus event, 31.0% (1,274/4,119) of cows had one event of estrus, and 10.2% (421/4,119) of cows had 2 or more events of estrus early postpartum. Mean DIM (± SD) at first estrus event, detected by the AAM, was 19.4 ± 4.4 d. Days in milk at first event for cows with one event was 20.7 ± 1.6 d and 15.9 ± 3.1 d for cows with 2 or more events of estrus. First lactation cows were more likely to have an estrus event early postpartum when compared with second and third and greater lactation cows (45.2 ± 1.4% [530/1168] vs. 41.6 ± 1.3% [636/1525] vs. 37.2 ± 1.3% [529/1426], respectively). There was an interaction of parity and GDPR on the proportion of cows demonstrating an early postpartum estrus. There was no difference in the proportion of cows with an early postpartum estrus between those with assisted or unassisted calving, RFM, or LDA. However, cows that had KET were less likely to have an alert early postpartum when compared with cows that did not have KET. Mean genomic expected milk production (± SD) was 256.8 ± 600.1 kg. There was no interaction between GEM and parity on estrous expression (i.e., intensity and duration). There was no interaction between GEM and GDPR on the proportion of estrus early postpartum
Can we detect resumption of cyclicity?
The objective of this observational study was to evaluate the efficacy of a neck-mounted automated activity monitor (AAM) at detecting early postpartum resumed ovarian cyclicity. A total of 192 lactating cows (primiparous = 73 and multiparous = 119) were enrolled in this study. Cows were continuously monitored by a neck-mounted AAM early postpartum (7 to 30 d in milk; DIM). Calving was classified as assisted (forced extraction of a calf) or unassisted (normal calving). Retained fetal membrane, metritis, hyperketonemia, clinical mastitis, and milk production were recorded. Cows were classified as healthy (i.e., no disease events) or sick (i.e., any disease event). Estrus events were alerted by the AAM using a proprietary algorithm set by the AAM company. Blood samples, from the coccygeal vein, were collected at 15, 18, 21, 24, 28, and 30 DIM for progesterone (P4) analysis. Resumption of cyclicity was considered when P4 concentration was ≥1 ng/mL on any collection day. Cows were considered anovular when P4 concentration was <1 ng/mL on all collection days. Cows were classified as true positive: P4 ≥ 1 ng/mL and at least one estrus alert; false positive: P4 < 1 ng/mL and at least one estrus alert; true negative: P4 < 1 ng/mL and no estrus alerts; and false negative: P4 ≥ 1 ng/mL and no estrus alerts. Statistical analyses were performed by frequency distribution and mixed effects logistic regression procedures on SAS (SAS Institute Inc.). The specificity, sensitivity, accuracy, and positive predictive value of the sensor to detect cows that had resumed cyclicity were 84.0%, 34.1%, 52.1%, and 79.2%, respectively. Out of the 192 cows, 35.9% (69/192) were anovulatory and 37.5% (72/192) had no estrus events between 7 to 30 DIM. Healthy cows were more likely to resume cyclicity in early lactation compared with cows that were sick (78.3 ± 1.9 vs. 32.8 ± 3.1%, respectively) independent of parity. In conclusion, the sensor had a high specificity for detecting anovular cows, but it had lower sensitivity, and thus was not effective at detecting cyclic cows, perhaps due to silent ovulation early postpartum
Higher-order hydrodynamics: Extended Fick's Law, evolution equation, and Bobylev's instability
A higher-order hydrodynamics for material motion in fluids, under arbitrary nonequilibrium conditions, is constructed. We obtain what is a generalized-to that conditions-Fick-type Law. It includes a representation of Burnett-type contributions of all order, in the form of a continuous-fraction expansion. Also, the equation includes generalized thermodynamic forces. which are characterized and discussed. All kinetic coefficients are given as correlations of microscopic mechanical quantities averaged over the nonequilibrium ensemble, and then are time- and space-dependent as a consequence of accounting for the dissipative processes that are unfolding in the medium. An extended evolution equation for the density of particles is derived, and the conditions when it goes over restricted forms of the type of the telegraphist equation and Fick's diffusion equation are presented. Evolution of dissipative processes via a statistical thermodynamic approach. II. Thermodynamic properties of a fluid of bosons
On the basis of the generalized Mori-Heisenberg-Langevin equations presented in the preceding paper, we derive and analyze the informational-statistical thermodynamic properties of a fluid of bosons away from equilibrium. We derive the informational entropy and its production, proceeding to an analysis of the several contributions to these state functions arising out of the evolution of dissipative processes in the system. Optical phonon modes of wurtzite InP
Optical vibration modes of InP nanowires in the wurtzite phase were investigated by Raman scattering spectroscopy. The wires were grown along the [0001] axis by the vapor-liquid-solid method. The A1(TO), E2h, and E1(TO) phonon modes of the wurtzite symmetry were identified by using light linearly polarized along different directions in backscattering configuration. Additionally, forbidden longitudinal optical modes have also been observed. Furthermore, by applying an extended 11-parameter rigid-ion model, the complete dispersion relations of InP in the wurtzite phase have been calculated, showing a good agreement with the Raman experimental data
Production of lipid rich-extracts from Chlorella vulgaris using ohmic heating
Microalgae biomass is a promising raw material for several bioproducts suitable for food, energy and pharmaceutical
industries. The aim of the present work was to optimize the extraction of bioactive compounds from Chlorella
vulgaris using Ohmic Heating (OH).
A rotatable central composite design for two factors was used to assess the effects of temperature and solvent (% ethanol
in water) on lipid extraction yields and fatty acid profile. OH extraction experiments were powered by low-frequency (50
Hz) and high-frequency (25 kHz) to identify the presence of non-thermal effects and its influence on composition and
bioactive properties of the generated extracts.
Lipid extraction using OH was successfully optimized with the best extraction conditions found at 70 ºC for 5 min using 88
% ethanol as a solvent. No effect on the application of the electrical frequencies was observed. These conditions allowed
to recover up to 87 % of lipids from biomass, polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) accounting for 43 % of the extracted
lipids against 26 % of saturated fatty acids (SFAs). The fatty acid profile reveals that C16:2, C16:3, C18:2 and C18:3
correspond to the PUFAs extracted from Chlorella vulgaris. Regarding lipid extraction yields OH was statistically equivalent
to conventional heating (COV); however, in terms of heating kinetics, OH reaches the required extraction temperature 5
times faster than COV.
Results showed that OH has potential to be applied as a treatment for the production of Chlorella vulgaris PUFAs richextracts
providing high recovery yields with reduced treatment times and less energy consumption. This study was supported by: the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) under the scope of the strategic funding of UIDB/04469/2020 unit and project OH2O – PTDC/EQU-EQU/029145/2017; by FEDER funds through COMPETE2020 – Programa Operacional Competitividade e Internacionalização (POCI) under the scope of Project Algavalor (POCI-01-0247-FEDER-035234; LISBOA-01-0247-FEDER-035234; ALG-01-0247-FEDER-035234) and OH2O (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-029145); AgriFood XXI R & D & I project, operation number NORTE-01-0145-FEDER-000041, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) through NORTE 2020 (Northern Regional Operational Program 2014/2020). Restor(y)ing meaning: reading Manoel de Oliveira’s Non ou a Vã Glória de Mandar
Manoel de Oliveira’s Non ou a Vã Glória de Mandar (1990) is a landmark in Lusophone cinema’s revisitation of the history of Portuguese expansion and colonial conflicts. This article aims at analysing the film’s political import by extrapolating from Jacques Rancière’s meditation on the ‘aesthetic regime’ and from Manoel de Oliveira’s references to Derridean deconstruction. Non and Oliveira’s filming praxis both exceed and disrupt the filmmaker’s personal logocentric and teleological theories of history and cinema
