    Get PDF
An unusual case of combined posterior acromioclavicular joint dislocation and an ipsilateral fracture of the middle third of the clavicle in a 17-year-old male is presented. Diagnosis is based on clinical suspicion and imaging test, being CT scan particularly useful. Open reduction and coracoclavicular fixation with excision of the distal clavicle led to successful results. Treatment is compared with previous reports. A review of the literature is made

The archival version of this work was published in Journal of The Electrochemical Society. Hernández, M. J., Garrido, J., Martínez, J. and J. Piqueras. Kinetics and compositional dependence on the microwave power and DiH4/N flow ratio of silicon nitride deposited by electron cyclotron resonance plasmas. Journal of The Electrochemical Society 141.11 (1994): 3234-3237Silicon nitride layers have been deposited at a low temperature, 150ºC in an electron cyclotron plasma from nitrogen and silane as gas precursors. Deposition conditions have been varied in a wide range. Nitrogen flows from 25 to 400 sccm and silane flows from 2.5 to 35 sccm have been used in our experiments. The microwave power was varied from 100 to 1500 W. The result of the nitride growth kinetics show strong dependence on the silane to nitrogen flow ratio and on the microwave power. For large flow ratios and small powers the kinetics exhibits a nearly linear behavior whereas for low flow ratios and high powers a saturated regime was observed. Ellipsometry, infrared spectroscopy, and etch rate studies showed that the best material quality, 95% Si3N4, is obtained in the saturated regime for the lowest flow ratios and the highest powers used

Rapid thermal annealing behavior of amorphous SiC layers deposited by electron cyclotron resonance plasma

The archival version of this work was published in Journal of the electrochemical society 143.1 (1996): 271-277Hydrogenated amorphous silicon carbide, a‐SiC:H, has been deposited by electron cyclotron resonance plasmas. Operating in methane excess (Formula flow ratios between 2 and 4) and at high enough microwave powers, the deposited SiC films are close to stoichiometric. In these SiC layers, only small traces of the Formula and Formula stretching bands can be detected. Rapid thermal annealing leads to nearly complete dehydrogenation of the SiC layers deposited under these conditions as deduced from ellipsometric and infrared spectroscopy

In the field of canine rehabilitation, knowledge of muscle function in the therapeutic exercises prescribed is needed by physical therapists and veterinary surgeons. To gain insight into the function of longissimus dorsi (LD) and gluteus medius (GM) muscles in dogs, five Greyhounds performing leash walking and trotting on the ground flat, up (+7%), and downhill (−7%) were studied by surface electromyography, and the mean and maximum activity was compared. For the same incline, the surface electromyography (sEMG) of LD was higher (p < 0.05) at the trot than at the walk. In LD muscle, trotting uphill showed significantly higher maximum activity than any other exercise. A change of +7% incline or −7% decline affected (increased or decreased, respectively) the mean sEMG of the LD and GM muscles of dogs walking or trotting on the ground. When combined, the influence of gait and incline on electromyographic activity was analyzed, and walking at certain inclines showed no difference with trotting at certain inclines. Walking and trotting up and downhill added separate therapeutic value to flat motion. The results of the present study might contribute to a better understanding of the function of LD and GM muscles in dogs, this being especially useful for the field of canine rehabilitation

38 p.The molecular analysis of pigs vaccinated with a mutant transferrin-binding protein B (Y167A) from Haemophilus parasuis was compared with that performed for unvaccinated challenged (UNCH) and unvaccinated unchallenged (UNUN) pigs. Microarray analysis revealed that UNCH group showed the most distinct expression profile for immune response genes, mainly for those genes involved in inflammation or immune cell trafficking. This fact was confirmed by real-time PCR, in which the greatest level of differential expression from this group were CD14, CD163, IL-8 and IL-12. In Y167A group, overexpressed genes included MAP3K8, CD14, IL-12 and CD163. Proteomics revealed that collagen -1 and peroxiredoxins 2 and 6 were overexpressed in Y167A pigs. Our study reveals new data on genes and proteins involved in H. parasuis infection and several candidates of resistance to infection that are induced by Y167A vaccine. The expression of proinflammatory molecules from Y176A pigs is similar to their expression in UNUN pigsS
