SUITABILITY ASSESSMENT OF DIFFERENT SENSORS TO DETECT HIDDEN INSTALLATIONS FOR AS-BUILT BIM
Knowledge on the utilities hidden in the wall, e.g., electric lines or water pipes, is indispensable for work safety and valuable for planning. Since most of the existing building stock originates from the pre-digital era, no models as understood for Building Information Modeling (BIM) exist. To generate these models often labor-intensive procedures are necessary; however, recent research has dealt with the efficient generation and verification of a building’s electric network. In this context, a reliable measurement method is a necessity. In this paper we test different measurement techniques, such as point-wise measurements with hand-held devices or area-based techniques utilizing thermal imaging. For this purpose, we designed and built a simulation environment that allows various parameters to be manipulated under controlled conditions. In this scenario the low-cost handheld devices show promising results, with a precision between 92% and 100% and a recall between 89% and 100%. The expensive thermal imaging camera is also able to detect electric lines and pipes if there is enough power on the line or if the temperature of the water in the pipe and the environment’s temperature are sufficiently different. Nevertheless, while point-wise measurements can directly yield results, the thermal camera requires post-processing in specific analysis software. The results reinforce the idea of using reasoning methods in both the do-it-yourself and commercial sector, to rapidly gather information about hidden installations in a building without prior technical knowledge. This paves the way for, e.g., exploring the possibilities of an implementation and presentation in augmented reality (AR)
Acute physical exercise improves shifting in adolescents at school: evidence for a dopaminergic contribution
The executive function of shifting between mental sets demands cognitive flexibility. Based on evidence that physical exercise fostered cognition, we tested whether acute physical exercise can improve shifting in an unselected sample of adolescents. Genetic polymorphisms were analyzed to gain more insight into possibly contributing neurophysiological processes. We examined 297 students aged between 13 and 17 years in their schools. Physical exercise was manipulated by an intense incremental exercise condition using bicycle ergometers and a control condition which involved watching an infotainment cartoon while sitting calm. The order of conditions was counterbalanced between participants. Shifting was assessed by a switching task after both conditions. Acute intense physical exercise significantly improved shifting as indicated by reduced switch costs. Exercise-induced performance gains in switch costs were predicted by a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) targeting the Dopamine Transporter (DAT1/SLCA6A3) gene suggesting that the brain dopamine system contributed to the effect. The results demonstrate the potential of acute physical exercise to improve cognitive flexibility in adolescents. The field conditions of the present approach suggest applications in schools

Aerosolized Delivery of Antifungal Agents
Pulmonary infections caused by Aspergillus species are associated with significant morbidity and mortality in immunocompromised patients. Although the treatment of pulmonary fungal infections requires the use of systemic agents, aerosolized delivery is an attractive option in prevention because the drug can concentrate locally at the site of infection with minimal systemic exposure. Current clinical evidence for the use of aerosolized delivery in preventing fungal infections is limited to amphotericin B products, although itraconazole, voriconazole, and caspofungin are under investigation. Based on conflicting results from clinical trials that evaluated various amphotericin B formulations, the routine use of aerosolized delivery cannot be recommended. Further research with well-designed clinical trials is necessary to elucidate the therapeutic role and risks associated with aerosolized delivery of antifungal agents. This article provides an overview of aerosolized delivery systems, the intrapulmonary pharmacokinetic properties of aerosolized antifungal agents, and key findings from clinical studies
Eunotiaceae (Bacillariophyceae) em igarapés da Amazônia Central, Manaus e Presidente Figueiredo, Brasil
Estudos florĂsticos e taxonĂ´micos envolvendo diatomáceas sĂŁo escassos para a regiĂŁo amazĂ´nica. As publicações existentes incluem registros de diatomáceas da AmazĂ´nia brasileira, do Equador, da ColĂ´mbia e do Peru e comumente mostram que Eunotia e Actinella (Eunotiaceae) sĂŁo gĂŞneros bem representados nessa regiĂŁo. A maioria dos igarapĂ©s amazĂ´nicos costuma apresentar potencial hidrogeniĂ´nico (pH) ácido, caracterĂstica aquática que promove o desenvolvimento de uma comunidade tĂpica de diatomáceas, dominada por espĂ©cimes de Eunotiaceae. O objetivo deste trabalho foi providenciar um levantamento florĂstico das espĂ©cies de Eunotiaceae presentes em igarapĂ©s da AmazĂ´nia Central brasileira e registrar os morfotipos de algumas espĂ©cies. Amostras fitoplanctĂ´nicas e perifĂticas foram coletadas em cinco igarapĂ©s na rodovia BR-174, em Manaus e Presidente Figueiredo, em setembro e outubro de 1996 e fevereiro e março de 1997. Lâminas permanentes foram preparadas de acordo com a tĂ©cnica de oxidação lenta para o estudo qualitativo. Vinte e trĂŞs espĂ©cies pertencentes ao gĂŞnero Eunotia e seis ao gĂŞnero Actinella foram determinadas. Chaves dicotĂ´micas de identificação, descrição detalhada, comentários relevantes e ilustrações foram providenciadas para cada táxon determinado. Morfotipos foram documentados para Eunotia zygodon. EspĂ©cies raramente citadas na literatura foram registradas, tais como, Eunotia falcifera e Eunotia rostellata.Floristic and taxonomical studies about diatoms to Amazonian region are commonly well represented by Eunotia and Actinella (Eunotiaceae). The available works include diatom assemblage from Brazilian, Ecuadorian, Colombian and Peruvian Amazonia. The local streams often present acid pH which provides environmental conditions to develop a very particular diatom community dominated by specimens of Eunotiaceae. Thus, the aim of this paper is to give a floristic survey of Eunotiaceae from central Amazonian rivers and to register the typical morphologic frustule variations of some species. Planktonic and periphytic samples were collected from five rivers located at the BR-174 highway, near Manaus and Presidente Figueiredo districts, during 1996 and 1997. Slides were prepared in accordance with the technique of slow oxidation for the qualitative determination. Twenty-three species of Eunotia and six of Actinella were identified. Dicotomic keys, taxonomic comments and photographic illustrations were added. Morphotypes of Eunotia zygodon were registered. Species scarcelly mentioned on diatom literature were registered, such as, Eunotia falcifera and Eunotia rostellata
