La información gráfica que aportamos, imágenes de especímenes vivos y proyecciones CLSM de estructuras informativas seleccionadas por su valor sistemático, corrobora su estrecha relación con el género Convoluta Ørsted, 1843.We report the occurrence of the acoel Oligochoerus limnophilus (Acoelomorpha) from the British Islands, based on specimens captured in the river Thames (locally known as the river Isis) in Oxford, England, thereby considerably widening the distributional range of the species that had formerly been reported only from continental Europe. Mortality risk and mental disorders: longitudinal results from the Upper Bavarian Study
The object of the study was the assessment of the mortality risk for persons with a mental disorder in an unselected representative community sample assessed longitudinally. Subjects from a rural area in Upper Bavaria (Germany) participated in semi-structured interviews conducted by research physicians in the 1970s (first assessment) and death-certificate diagnoses were obtained after an interval up to 13 years later. The sample consisted of 1668 community residents aged 15 years and over. Cox regression estimates resulted in an odds ratio of 1·35 (confidence interval 1·01 to 1·81) for persons with a mental disorder classified as marked to very severe. The odds ratio increased with increasing severity of mental illness from 1·04 for mild disorders, 1·30 for marked disorders, to 1·64 for severe or very severe disorders. The relative risk (odds ratio) for persons with a mental disorder only and no somatic disorder was 1·22, for persons with only a somatic disorder 2·00, and for those with both a mental and a somatic disorder 2·13. The presence of somatic illness was responsible for most of the excess mortality. Somatic disorders associated with excess mortality in mental disorders were diseases of the nervous system or sensory organs, diseases of the circulatory system, diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, and diseases of the skeleton, muscles and connective tissue (ICD-8). Subkelvin tunneling spectroscopy showing Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer superconductivity in heavily boron-doped silicon epilayers
Scanning tunneling spectroscopies in the subKelvin temperature range were
performed on superconducting Silicon epilayers doped with Boron in the atomic
percent range. The resulting local differential conductance behaved as expected
for a homogeneous superconductor, with an energy gap dispersion below +/- 10%.
The spectral shape, the amplitude and temperature dependence of the
superconductivity gap follow the BCS model, bringing further support to the
hypothesis of a hole pairing mechanism mediated by phonons in the weak coupling

Low temperature transition to a superconducting phase in boron-doped silicon films grown on (001)-oriented silicon wafers
We report on a detailed analysis of the superconducting properties of
boron-doped silicon films grown along the 001 direction by Gas Immersion Laser
Doping. The doping concentration cB has been varied up to approx. 10 at.% by
increasing the number of laser shots to 500. No superconductivity could be
observed down to 40mK for doping level below 2.5 at.%. The critical temperature
Tc then increased steeply to reach 0.6K for cB = 8 at%. No hysteresis was found
for the transitions in magnetic field, which is characteristic of a type II
superconductor. The corresponding upper critical field Hc2(0) was on the order
of 1000 G, much smaller than the value previously reported by Bustarret et al.

Critical boron-doping levels for generation of dislocations in synthetic diamond
Defects induced by boron doping in diamond layers were studied by transmission electron microscopy. The existence of a critical boron doping level above which defects are generated is reported. This level is found to be dependent on the CH4
/H2 molar ratios and on growth directions. The critical boron concentration lied in the 6.5–17.0 X 10 20 at/cm3 range in the direction and at 3.2 X 1021 at/cm
3 for the one. Strain related effects induced by the doping are shown not to
be responsible. From the location of dislocations and their Burger vectors, a model is proposed, together with their generation mechanism.6 page
Parasites (Trematoda, Nematoda, Phthiraptera) of Two Arkansas Raptors (Accipitriformes: Accipitridae; Strigiformes: Strigidae)
Very little is known about the helminth parasites of hawks and owls of Arkansas. We had the opportunity to salvage 2 road-killed raptors, a red-shouldered hawk (Buteo lineatus) and a great horned owl (Bubo virginianus) from the state and examine them for ecto- and endoparasites. Found were chewing lice (Degeeriella fulva) and a nematode (Porrocaecum angusticolle) on/in B. lineatus, and 3 digenean trematodes (Echinoparyphium sp., Strigea elegans, Neodiplostomum americanum), and nematode eggs (Capillaria sp.) in B. virginianus. We document 6 new distributional records for these parasites
Occupational Sex Segregation and Management-Level Wages in Germany: What Role Does Firm Size Play?
The paper analyzes the gender pay gap in private-sector management positions based on German panel data and using fixed-effects models. It deals with the effect of occupational sex segregation on wages, and the extent to which wage penalties for managers in predominantly female occupations are moderated by firm size. Drawing on economic and organizational approaches and the devaluation of women's work, we find wage penalties for female occupations in management only in large firms. This indicates a pronounced devaluation of female occupations, which might be due to the longer existence, stronger formalization, or more established old-boy networks of large firms
Insulin Resistance and Altered Systemic Glucose Metabolism in Mice Lacking Nur77
OBJECTIVE: Nur77 is an orphan nuclear receptor with pleotropic functions. Previous studies have identified Nur77 as a transcriptional regulator of glucose utilization genes in skeletal muscle and gluconeogenesis in liver. However, the net functional impact of these pathways is unknown. To examine the consequence of Nur77 signaling for glucose metabolism in vivo, we challenged Nur77 null mice with high-fat feeding. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: Wild-type and Nur77 null mice were fed a high-fat diet (60% calories from fat) for 3 months. We determined glucose tolerance, tissue-specific insulin sensitivity, oxygen consumption, muscle and liver lipid content, muscle insulin signaling, and expression of glucose and lipid metabolism genes. RESULTS: Mice with genetic deletion of Nur77 exhibited increased susceptibility to diet-induced obesity and insulin resistance. Hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp studies revealed greater high-fat diet–induced insulin resistance in both skeletal muscle and liver of Nur77 null mice compared with controls. Loss of Nur77 expression in skeletal muscle impaired insulin signaling and markedly reduced GLUT4 protein expression. Muscles lacking Nur77 also exhibited increased triglyceride content and accumulation of multiple even-chained acylcarnitine species. In the liver, Nur77 deletion led to hepatic steatosis and enhanced expression of lipogenic genes, likely reflecting the lipogenic effect of hyperinsulinemia. Gastric Cancer in Individuals with Li-Fraumeni Syndrome
PURPOSE: Li-Fraumeni syndrome is a rare hereditary cancer syndrome associated with germline mutations in the TP53 gene. Although sarcomas, brain tumors, leukemias, breast and adrenal cortical carcinomas are typically recognized as Li-Fraumeni syndrome-associated tumors, the occurrence of gastrointestinal neoplasms has not been fully evaluated. In this analysis, we investigated the frequency and characteristics of gastric cancer in Li-Fraumeni syndrome. METHODS: Pedigrees and medical records of 62 TP53 mutation-positive families were retrospectively reviewed from the Dana-Farber/National Cancer Institute Li-Fraumeni syndrome registry. We identified subjects with gastric cancer documented either by pathology report or death certificate and performed pathology review of the available specimens. RESULTS: Among 62 TP53 mutation-positive families, there were 429 cancer-affected individuals. Gastric cancer was the diagnosis in the lineages of 21 (4.9%) subjects from 14 families (22.6%). The mean and median ages at gastric cancer diagnosis were 43 and 36 years, respectively (range: 24-74 years), significantly younger compared with the median age at diagnosis in the general population based on Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results data (71 years). Five (8.1%) families reported two or more cases of gastric cancer, and six (9.7%) families had cases of both colorectal and gastric cancers. No association was seen between phenotype and type/location of the TP53 mutations. Pathology review of the available tumors revealed both intestinal and diffuse histologies. CONCLUSIONS: Early-onset gastric cancer seems to be a component of Li-Fraumeni syndrome, suggesting the need for early and regular endoscopic screening in individuals with germline TP53 mutations, particularly among those with a family history of gastric cancer
