LATE PLEISTOCENE TO MID-HOLOCENE COASTAL AND INLAND INTERACTION IN THE GUNUNG SEWU KARST, YOGYAKARTA

    Get PDF
The Gunung Sewu karst in the Southern Mountains of Java Island has specific characteristics from a geoarchaeological viewpoint. Cross disciplinary approaches utilising Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and geographical and geological information, are very useful for examining correlations between site distributions and geophysical processes. The geographical and geological aspects of the region contribute information for understanding prehistoric interactions between coastal and inland communities. GIS technology was applied in an examination of terrain, the karst landscape, and the distributions of cave sites

Seagrass morphometrics at species level in Moreton Bay, Australia from 2012 to 2013

Seagrass above, below and total biomass, density and leaf area, length and width were quantified at a species level for 122 sites over three sampling periods in Moreton Bay, Australia. Core samples were collected in two regions: (1) a high water quality region with varying species assemblages and canopy complexity (98 sites); and (2) along a turbidity gradient in the bay (24 sites within four locations). Core samples were collected using a 15 cm diameter×20 cm long corer. Seagrass dry biomass per component was quantified per species present in each sample. A total of 220 biomass and density data records are included, 130 from the high water quality region and 90 from the turbidity gradient. These data provide a detailed assessment of biomass, density and leaf metrics per species sampled from Moreton Bay over 2012–2013. In future, these can be used as a baseline to assess seasonal and spatial variation within the bay, within the region and among regions.UCR::Vicerrectoría de Investigación::Unidades de Investigación::Ciencias Básicas::Centro de Investigación en Ciencias del Mar y Limnología (CIMAR

Mapping ergonomics application to improve SMEs working condition in industrially developing countries: a critical review

    Get PDF
In industrially developing countries (IDC), small and medium enterprises (SMEs) account for the highest proprotion of employment. Unfortunately, the working conditions in SMEs are often very poor and expose employees to a potentially wide range of health and safety risks. This paper presents a comprehensive review of 161 articles related to ergonomics application in SMEs, using Indonesia as a case study. The aim of this paper is to investigate the extent of ergonomics application and identify areas that can be improved to promote effective ergonomics for SMEs in IDC. The most urgent issue found is the need for adopting participatory approach in contrast to the commonly implemented top-down approach. Some good practices in ergonomics application were also revealed from the review, e.g. a multidisciplinary approach, unsophisticated and low-cost solutions, and recognising the importance of productivity. The review also found that more work is still required to achieve appropriate cross-cultural adaptation of ergonomics application. Practitioner Summary: Despite continuous efforts in addressing ergonomics issues in SMEs of IDC, workers are still exposed to poor work conditions. We reviewed factual-based evidence of current ergonomics application to inform future strategies of ergonomics in IDC, using Indonesia as a case study

CURATION AND MANAGEMENT OF CULTURAL HERITAGE THROUGH LIBRARIES

    Get PDF
Libraries, museums and archives hold valuable collections in a variety of media, presenting a vast body of knowledge rooted in the history of human civilisation. These form the repository of the wisdom of great works by thinkers of past and the present. The holdings of these institutions are priceless heritage of the mankind as they preserve documents, ideas, and the oral and written records. To value the cultural heritage and to care for it as a treasure bequeathed to us by our ancestors is the major responsibility of libraries. The past records constitute a natural resource and are indispensable to the present generation as well as to the generations to come. Libraries preserve the documentary heritage resources for which they are primarily responsible. Any loss of such materials is simply irreplaceable. Therefore, preserving this intellectual, cultural heritage becomes not only the academic commitment but also the moral responsibility of the librarians/information scientists, who are in charge of these repositories. The high quality of the papers and the discussion represent the thinking and experience of experts in their particular fields. The contributed papers also relate to the methodology used in libraries in Asia to provide access to manuscripts and cultural heritage. The volume discusses best practices in Knowledge preservation and how to collaborate and preserve the culture. The book also deals with manuscript and archives issues in the digital era. The approach of this book is concise, comprehensively, covering all major aspects of preservation and conservation through libraries. The readership of the book is not just limited to library and information science professionals, but also for those involved in conservation, preservation, restoration or other related disciplines. The book will be useful for librarians, archivists and conservators. We thank the Sunan Kalijaga University, Special Libraries Association- Asian Chapter for their trust and their constant support, all the contributors for their submissions, the members of the Local and International Committee for their reviewing effort for making this publication possible

Pemodelan Implementasi Produksi Bersih pada Industri Pengasapan Ikan Pari Skala UMKM di Sentra Ikan Bulak, Kota Surabaya

Kegiatan pengasapan ikan ditengarai menjadi penyebab menurunnya kualitas perairan Kenjeran, Kota Surabaya.

The weekly food sample intake of 20 females between 20 and 40 years from two geographic area (Mungkid and Sawangan district) was determined on consecutive days by means of the duplicate method. Twenty females were selected for this survey. This group consists of 5 females with goiter and 5 females without goiter from Mungkid, 5 females with goiter and 5 females without goiter from Sawangan. The minor element Na, K, Ca, Mg, and trace element Fe, Cu, Zn, Mn and Rb content of food sample and the weekly intake of these elements were determined with atomic absorption spectrometry. During the study period, the goiter group from both areas consumed Na, K. Ca, Mg, Fe, Cu, Zn, Mn and Rb lower than control, for goiter in Mungkid more higher consumed K than control
