Measurement of the Differential and Total Cross Sections of the ᔧdâKÂșÉ (p) Reaction Within the Resonance Region
We report the first measurement of differential and total cross sections for the Îłd âK0 Î(p)reaction, using data from the CLAS detector at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. Data collected during two separate experimental runs were studied with photon-energy coverage 0.8-3.6 GeV and 0.5-2.6 GeV, respectively. The two measurements are consistent giving confidence in the method and determination of systematic uncertainties. The cross sections are compared with predictions from the KAON-MAID theoretical model (without kaon exchange), which deviate from the data at higher W and at forward kaon angles. These data, along with previously published cross sections for K+Î photoproduction, provide essential constraints on the nucleon resonance spectrum. A first partial wave analysis was performed that describes the data without the introduction of new resonances

Charlie-is-so-âEnglishâ-like: Nationality and the branded-celebrity person in the age of YouTube
The YouTube celebrity is a novel social phenomenon. YouTube celebrities have implications for the social and cultural study of celebrity more generally but in order to illustrate the features of vlogging celebrity and its wider dimensions, this article focuses upon one case-study â Charlie McDonnell and his video âHow to be Englishâ. The premise of YouTube â âBroadcast Yourselfâ â begs the question âbut what self?â The article argues the YouTube celebrity is able to construct a celebrity persona by appealing to aspects of identity, such as nationality, and use them as a mask(s) to perform with. By situating Charlieâs âHow to be Englishâ in the context of establishing celebrity, the article argues that the processes of celebrification and âself-brandingâ utilise the power of identity myths to help assist the construction of a celebrity persona. Use of masks and myths allows for one to develop various aspects of their persona into personae. One such persona for Charlie is his âEnglishnessâ. As the social experience of âBroadcasting Yourselfâ necessarily asks one to turn ordinary aspects of their person into extra-ordinary qualities, Charlieâs use of Englishness allows âbeing Englishâ to become a mythological device to overcome the problem of âself-promotionâ
Towards a resolution of the proton form factor problem: new electron and positron scattering data
There is a significant discrepancy between the values of the proton electric
form factor, , extracted using unpolarized and polarized electron
scattering. Calculations predict that small two-photon exchange (TPE)
contributions can significantly affect the extraction of from the
unpolarized electron-proton cross sections. We determined the TPE contribution
by measuring the ratio of positron-proton to electron-proton elastic scattering
cross sections using a simultaneous, tertiary electron-positron beam incident
on a liquid hydrogen target and detecting the scattered particles in the
Jefferson Lab CLAS detector. This novel technique allowed us to cover a wide
range in virtual photon polarization () and momentum transfer
() simultaneously, as well as to cancel luminosity-related systematic
errors. The cross section ratio increases with decreasing at . This measurement is consistent with the size of the form
factor discrepancy at GeV and with hadronic calculations
including nucleon and intermediate states, which have been shown to
resolve the discrepancy up to GeV.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, submitted to PR
Precision measurements of of the proton and the deuteron with 6 GeV electrons
The inclusive polarized structure functions of the proton and deuteron, g1p
and g1d, were measured with high statistical precision using polarized 6 GeV
electrons incident on a polarized ammonia target in Hall B at Jefferson
Laboratory. Electrons scattered at lab angles between 18 and 45 degrees were
detected using the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS). For the usual
DIS kinematics, Q^2>1 GeV^2 and the final-state invariant mass W>2 GeV, the
ratio of polarized to unpolarized structure functions g1/F1 is found to be
nearly independent of Q^2 at fixed x. Significant resonant structure is
apparent at values of W up to 2.3 GeV. In the framework of perturbative QCD,
the high-W results can be used to better constrain the polarization of quarks
and gluons in the nucleon, as well as high-twist contributions
Transverse Polarization of in Photoproduction on a Hydrogen Target in CLAS
Experimental results on the hyperon transverse polarization
in photoproduction on a hydrogen target using the CLAS detector at Jefferson
laboratory are presented. The was reconstructed in the
exclusive reaction via the
decay mode. The was reconstructed in the
invariant mass of two oppositely charged pions with the identified in
the missing mass of the detected final state. Experimental data
were collected in the photon energy range = 1.0-3.5 GeV
( range 1.66-2.73 GeV). We observe a large negative polarization of
up to 95%. As the mechanism of transverse polarization of hyperons produced in
unpolarized photoproduction experiments is still not well understood, these
results will help to distinguish between different theoretical models on
hyperon production and provide valuable information for the searches of missing
baryon resonances.Comment: pages 1
Search for pentaquark in high statistics measurement of at CLAS
The exclusive reaction was studied in the
photon energy range between 1.6-3.8 GeV searching for evidence of the exotic
baryon . The decay to requires the assignment of
strangeness to any observed resonance. Data were collected with the CLAS
detector at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility corresponding to
an integrated luminosity of 70 . No evidence for the
pentaquark was found. Upper limits were set on the production cross section as
function of center-of-mass angle and mass. The 95% CL upper limit on the
total cross section for a narrow resonance at 1540 MeV was found to be 0.8 nb.Comment: Submitted to Physical Review Letter
