    Assessment and Development of Communicative Skills in English: A Case Study of 1st Year Undergraduate Students Learning English As Their Major

    This article discusses the unique experiences and methods of independent examination of the level of communicative (specifically receptive and productive) English language skills of the first year undergraduate students studying English as the first foreign language in a Russian university, who previously passed the Unified State Exam (USE) in English. The results analyzed came from the tests the students took at the beginning of their first academic year. This study attempts to lay the foundations for the transition to level-oriented learning or to introduce differentiation in groups where students’ levels range widely – from A1 to C1. The assessment of the English language proficiency of students studying Philology, Linguistics, Foreign Regional Studies, and Pedagogy was carried out in the format the B2 First Cambridge exam (FCE). The results of the assessment were used to analyze their level of language knowledge and language skills according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment (CEFR). A number of typical mistakes made by students were revealed, based on which the students as well as their teachers were offered a number of recommendations to improve each of the skills

    The scale of virtual pKa values for calculating the isoelectric point of peptides and proteins with chemical and post-translational modifications (PTM) is presented. The learning set of pKa values is based on data from 25 experiments of isoelectric focusing of peptides with subsequent mass spectrometric identification (ProteomeXchange accession codes: PXD000065, PXD005410, PXD006291, PXD010006 and PXD017201). In order to enrich the resulting sets with peptides containing modifications the identification of peptides was repeated using raw mass spectrometry data of all datasets. In the final learning set have included peptides satisfying the following conditions: the peptide was found in the fraction with scoring function maximum and maximum peptide abundance; the peptide was found in more than one experiment, and differences of the pI value between experiments was less than 0.15 pH unit. Two variants of the scales were created. In the first variant, pKa values depended only on the residue position relative to the ends of the sequence (N- or C-terminal residue or inside the chain). In the second variant, the effect of neighboring residues was also taken into account. The prediction accuracy of the second variant was higher. The comparison with other methods of pI prediction was carried out. Although the scale was calculated from set containing only peptides, it would be applicable for pI prediction of proteins with and without PTM. The software for prediction of pI values using the resulting pKa scales is available at http://pIPredict3.ibmc.msk.ru.Представлена шкала «виртуальных» значений pKa для расчёта изоэлектрической точки пептидов и белков, имеющих как химические, так и посттрансляционные модификации (PTM). Обучающая выборка для подбора значений pKa сформирована на основе данных из 25 экспериментов по изоэлектрическому фокусирования пептидов с последующей масс-спектрометрической идентификацией (ProteomeXchange accession codes: PXD000065, PXD005410, PXD006291, PXD010006 и PXD017201). Для всех наборов данных идентификация пептидов по «сырым» масс-спектрометрическим данным проведена заново с целью обогащения выборки пептидами с модификациями. В окончательную обучающую выборку включены пептиды, для которых выполнялись следующие условия: пептид встречался во фракции, для которой величина максимума оценочной функции при идентификации пептида совпадала с максимальным значением представленности («abundance»), пептид встречался более чем в одном эксперименте, причём величина pI между экспериментами не отличалась больше чем 0.15 значений единицы pH. Созданы два варианта шкал. В первом величина pKa зависела только от его положения относительно концов последовательности (N- или C-концевой остаток, либо внутри цепи). Во втором учитывали также влияние соседних остатков. Точность предсказания по второму варианту была выше. Проведено сравнение с другими методами предсказания pI. Несмотря на то, что шкала рассчитывалась по выборке, содержащей только пептиды, она применима и для предсказания pI белков как с наличием PTM, так и без.     The distribution of temperature in an active region for a comet with known parameters of rotation and orbit

    We calculated the temperature regime of an active region considered as a conical hole in dust layer. All the calculations are carried out for the case when the season effects are distinctly expressed. The temperature is defined from the geometrical parameters of the active region separately for ice bottom and dust walls. It is shown that dust walls are cooled very slowly for the small vertex angles of the crater structure. The temperature of the ice bottom practically does not change over the whole period of rotation, because it is retained at an approximately constant level by concentration of reradiated energy from the dust walls heated by the Sun

    Exports of Russian Cereals: Analysis of the Current State and Development Prospects

    Exports of Russian cereals have been growing for five years. In 2017, exports of Russian cereals came to the second rate in the world, and wheat exports came to the first rate. In near future, Russia intends to increase its export potential and maintain its leadership in the global cereals market. The authors have put forward the hypothesis that increasing exports of Russian cereals are not just the result of a favorable combination of weather, economic and political conditions, but it is an expected result of the development of Russian cereal farming. The purpose of the study is to examine the factors that could increase the volume of exports of Russian cereals, and elaborate perspective ways to develop the export potential to strengthen the Russian position in the world cereals market. Using the methods of theoretical analysis, the authors have revealed the peculiarities of Russian and world market development. Economic and statistical methods of analysis have allowed to determine the trends and the conditioning factors in the cereals market development. The authors have come to the conclusion that increasing exports of cereals are caused by growth in cereals production and changes in the expense side in the Russian cereals balance, as well as an active foreign economic activity to expand cereals supplies, and state exports support. Russia is able to increase the volume of food exports, augmenting not only exports of cereals, but also derivative products, which are characterized by high added value, that is the most promising way to develop the export potential

    Rheological and physical–chemical properties of yogurt with oat–chia seeds composites

    Currently chia seeds (Salvia hispanica L.) are considered as a filler of functional food. However, ground chia seeds have a low viscosity and cohesion properties that are limited its applications. Based on previous data oat-chia seeds composites in different proportions as filler for yogurt have been tested. The investigation of water holding capacity of samples allowed to select the yogurt with filler in the ratio of 1:1 (oat bran:chia seed) in the amount of 3% and 5% as the most close to the control sample without any filler. The rheological characteristics of yogurt samples were investigated and their thixotropic and viscoelastic properties were identified depending on the amount of filler in the product. The yogurt without any filler had the less thixotropic properties in compare with yogurt with oat-chia seeds composites. The structure recovery of yogurt with 3% and 5% filler was close to 100% and greater than 100% respectively. Based on the data of G' and G" moduli was possible to ascertain the yogurt with filler has more viscoelastic properties compared with yogurt without filler. Yogurt with 5% filler exceeds yogurt without filler in biological value according to the content of essential amino acids and polyunsaturated fatty acids

The authors present their vision for the migration of knowledge in business and education, which could create additional value of such knowledge.Рассматривается понятие «миграция знаний» как составляющая часть экономики знания, в основе которой лежит тенденция к экономической, социальной, политической и культурной глобализацией современного мирового сообщества. Определены и описаны тенденции, которые происходят в экономике знаний в современных реалиях, показаны возможности использования новых каналов коммуникации, способных повлиять на эффективность образовательного учреждения и частного бизнеса. Авторы исследования делают вывод о том, что в условиях глобализации мирового сообщества важно не только находить новые подходы в работе со знанием, но и эффективно внедрять их в учебный процесс, а также в бизнес-процессы организации для того, чтобы повысить их экономическую конкурентоспособность
