Does Good Governance Affect Globalization? A case of Bangladesh
Development, in part, depends on the institutional quality of a state administration (good governance) to respond to the external affair (globalization). To corroborate it, the study aims to investigate the effect of good governance on globalization by employing both Auto Regressive Distributive Lag (ARDL) and VAR-based Variance Decomposition (VDC) estimation techniques in the context of Bangladesh over the period 1990-2016. In addition, almost similar result is found in this nexus while using both two techniques—ARDL and VDC. The study finds that there appears a co-integration between good governance and globalization in which ‘voice and accountability’ affects globalization significantly both in the long and short run. ‘Political stability and no violence’ has significantly negative impact both in the long and short run. Besides, government effectiveness, rule of law, regulatory quality and control of corruption have no substantial impact on globalization in both long and short run. Therefore, the study suggests taking appropriate policy measures to galvanize the core governance/good governance mechanisms to reach the aspired trajectory of globalization

Evaluation of antioxidant, membrane stabilizing, antimicrobial, cytotoxic and thrombolytic properties of the crude extracts of Stixis suaveolens growing in Bangladesh
The current study was conducted to investigate anti-oxidative, membrane stabilizing, antimicrobial, cytotoxic and thrombolytic properties of Methanol, Aqueous, Pet-Ether, Dichloromethane, and Ethyl Acetate soluble fractions of Stixis suaveolens. To determine the antioxidant activity, free radical scavenging activities (antioxidant capacity) of the plant extracts on the stable radical 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and total phenolic content was determined. Ascorbic Acid & BHT were used as standards in this studies. To evaluate cytotoxicity, the brine shrimp lethality bioassay was used.Vincristine sulfate (VS) was used as positive control. Antithrombolytic ability of the plant extracts were determined on bloods drawn from healthy volunteers. Membrane stabilizing potential were assessed by evaluating their ability to inhibit haemolysis of human erythrocytes. Antimicrobial investigation by disc diffusion method revealed no anti-microbial potential. The amount of total phenolic content differed in different extractives and ranged from 4.9375mg of GAE/gm of extractives to 70.125mg of GAE/gm of extractives of Fruits of S. suaveolens Roxb. The antioxidant activity of IC50 values in DPPH method are differed in different extractives and ranged from (75.67μg/ml) to (5634.00μg/ml). Methanol Soluble Fraction (MESFF) of Fruits of S. suaveolens Roxb. exhibited highest thrombolytic activity of 26.85%. Furthermore, the Aqueous Soluble Fraction (AQSF) inhibited 11.06%, Ethyl Acetate Soluble Fraction (EASF) inhibited 9.16%, Methanol Soluble Fraction (MESF) inhibited 8.84%, Dichloromethane Soluble Fraction (DCMSF) inhibited 7.92%, and Pet-Ether Soluble Fraction (PESF) inhibited 5.86% of hemolysis of RBC. The highest brine shrimp lethality was given by EASF with 0.99μg/ml followed by PESFwith 1.10μg/ml, DCMSFwith 4.77μg/ml, MESF with 8.37μg/ml and AQSFwith 24.26μg/ml. Hence, that S. suaveolens extracts and its fractions possess anti-oxidant, membrane stabilizing, cytotoxic and thrombolytic properties
Microgrid design, control, and performance evaluation for sustainable energy management in manufacturing
This research studies the capacity sizing, control strategies, and performance evaluation of the microgrids with hybrid renewable sources for manufacturing end use customers towards a distributed sustainable energy system paradigm. Microgrid technology has been widely investigated and applied in commercial and residential sector, while for manufacturers, it has been less explored and utilized. To fill the gap, the dissertation first proposes a cost-effective sizing model to identify the capacities as well as control strategies of the components in microgrids considering a commonly used energy tariff, i.e., Time of Use (TOU). Then, the sizing model is extended by integrating control strategies for both microgrid components and manufacturing systems considering a typical demand response program, i.e., Critical Peak Pricing (CPP), where customer side load adjustment is highly encouraged. After that, the control strategy of the manufacturers in an overgeneration mitigation-oriented demand response program is further investigated based on the identified optimal size of onsite microgrid to minimize the energy cost. Later, the system is analyzed from its higher level of abstraction where a prosumer community is developed by aggregating such manufacturers with onsite microgrid system. To enhance the reliable energy operation in the community, the performance of the microgrid is investigated through the estimation of the lifetime of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), a critical design parameter the architecture. Finally, conclusions are presented and future research on real-time joint control strategy for both microgrids and manufacturing systems and identification as well as optimal energy management of the controllable loads in manufacturing system are discussed --Abstract, page iii
A Bibliometric Study on Information Seeking Behavior Research in Library and Information Science using Biblioshiny and VOSViewer
The primary aim of this attempt is to provide a thorough overview of Information Seeking Behavior (ISB) research within Library and Information Science (ISB) utilizing sophisticated bibliometric analysis tools. We searched the bibliographical data from Scopus and examined with the help of Biblioshiny and VOSviewer to demonstrate the visualization. A total of 1957 documents were included in the dataset. The growth rate is calculated at 7.88%. The total quantity of references quoted across all the documents in the dataset amounts to 57870. The study exposed that the highest number of articles (n=140) were produced in the year 2012 followed by the year 2013 (n=130). The study found USA was the top (Total production=1825) publishing country leading by a significant margin, followed by the UK, India, Canada, China, Iran, Australia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and South Africa. Library Philosophy and Practice leads with the highest number of publications, indicating its significant relevance and impact in the field, followed by other journals like Health Information and libraries journal, Journal of the medical library association. The study highlighted the frequency of usage of specific information and information-seeking terms in the dataset such as human and humans and information seeking as the most commonly used terms. The study delivers a bibliometric study of publications available in the Scopus database on ISB in the area of LIS of the period of 1966-2022
Improving Ready-Made Garment Productivity by Changing Worker Attitude
Bangladesh is the 2nd largest readymade garment exporter in the world. But in terms of productivity, its performance is below the mark. Many studies were performed to increase the productivity of our readymade garment industry by applying proper line balancing, time study, lean manufacturing system etc. Similarly this paper is an attempt to analyze the potential increase in garment productivity by applying a non-monetary process that is related with changing the behavioral aspect of the readymade garment workers. The study shows only slight change in worker attitude along with proper supervision can bring about a tremendous increase in garment productivity which can make the readymade garment products more price competitive to the foreign buyers
Second approximation of local functions in ideal topological spaces
This paper gives a new dimension to discuss the local function in ideal topological spaces. We calculate error operators for various type of local functions and introduce more perfect approximation of the local functions for discussing their properties. We have also reached a topological space with the help of semi-closure
Consumers’ Perceptions toward ATM Booths: A Study on Bangladesh
The main purpose of this paper is to evaluate various factors of services that consumers want a bank should ensure before setting up an ATM booth. A structured close-ended questionnaire was used for data collection through a random distribution to 120 ATM users from Sylhet city in Bangladesh. This study has indicated Security, Convenient place, Availability, Speedy services & Low cost services were the main factors, which were influenced the consumers’ while using ATM services. Specifically in the context of Bangladesh. This finding will help both the academics and the Bank services providers in understanding the perception of the users towards the ATM Services
