The purpose of this study is to see how the European Union's RED II policy affects the palm oil industry in Indonesia. One of the things the European Union is doing to achieve its sustainability goals is developing and enforcing a directive called the European Union Renewable Energy Directive (EU RED). The Renewable Energy Directive (RED) is a set of regulations that aim to increase the use of renewable energy sources within the European Union. The emergence of the RED policy had an impact on the Indonesian palm oil industry because it was assessed that the use of oil palm land in Indonesia had a significant impact on deforestation. The existence of this policy has caused the Indonesian government to bring up various kinds of regulations from year to year that regulate the palm oil industry. This research is qualitative and uses secondary data types; the data used comes from various kinds of national news and journals as well as document reports from the government

Portrait of Gender and Development in Village Area, do They Shape Inclusivity?

    Get PDF
The existence of women in the village realm is a dilemmatic phenomenon. On the one hand, female leaders can demonstrate the breaking down of stigma and stereotypes that women will not appropriately fill the public sphere. On the other hand, their existence is no different from formality, ignoring the substance and representation of women's interests. This research seeks to compare three villages that were and are currently led by women. Do they reflect inclusiveness? This inclusiveness from the campaign period to the dynamics when taking office will be seen. The research results show that not all female leaders at the village level can design inclusiveness. In carrying out village development planning deliberations, for example, women's involvement is more to overcome administrative requirements than to accommodate their interests

Environmental Policy Implementation in West Java (Studies in the Ciletuh Geopark Tourism Area)

    Get PDF
The tourism industry is an important aspect of economic growth; therefore, this sector continues to experience demands for expanding development. But unfortunately, often the logic offered by tourism does not meet the logic of the environment, so in many cases the environment becomes a victim. This situation prompted researchers to look at how environmental justice operates in tourism policy at the UNESCO Global Geopark Ciletuh (UGGC). This research uses policy implementation theory from George Edward III and environmental justice theory from Taylor. Methodologically, this research uses the descriptive-qualitative method. The results of the study reveal that from the four theoretical indicators, namely communication, resources, organizational structure, and disposition, it is clear that the implementation of environmental policies is still experiencing obstacles. This is caused by human resources, both managers and local residents, who have not been able to understand the concept of geopark ecology and the value of environmental justice. In the technical realm, environmental policy implementers are still stuttering and nervous about translating ecological rights into tourism operations in Ciletuh. Ciletuh has a big challenge in terms of ecology if policy implementation is still not able to understand the principles of environmental justice
