    Assessing fun: young children as evaluators of interactive systems.

    In this paper, we describe an exploratory study on the challenges of conducting usability tests with very young children aged 3 to 4 years old (nursery age) and the differences when working with older children aged 5 to 6 years old (primary school). A pilot study was conducted at local nursery and primary schools to understand and experience the challenges working with young children interacting with computer products. We report on the studies and compare the experiences of working with children of different age groups in evaluation studies of interactive systems

    Modeling of viscous flows in two-dimensional turbomachinery cascade via viscous-inviscid interaction method

    [Abstract]: A two-dimensional time-accurate time-marching viscous flow solver employing the viscous-inviscid interaction method suitable for turbomachinery applications is described. The inviscid main flow solver uses the second-order accurate cellvertex finite-volume spatial discretisation and fourth-order accurate Runge-Kutta temporal integration. The viscous effect due to boundary layer development on the blade surfaces and wakes are modelled using an independent one-dimensional boundary layer subroutine capable of modelling laminar, transition and fully turbulent flows. The solver has been applied to subsonic, transonic and supersonic flow in a cascade of nozzle blades. The results are compared with the experimental data and they showed very good agreemen

    Indonesia covers a wide area that is usually called ‘dari Sabang sampai Merauke\u27 (from Sabang in westernmost point to Merauke to easternmost point) as mentioned in lyrics of a national folk song sang by students from elementary to high school. In its thousand islands live communities speaking various languages, living different cultures, characters and traditions that have become ethnical identities. The education and culture in a community are implemented from older to younger generations within a wide range of time and preserved well by the descendants. Indonesian characters are identical with oriental culture where people usually live in groups, mutual cooperation (‘gotong royong\u27), helpful and religious. Religion, education, culture, and tradition become basic norms is human society that have to be preserved and improved by individual, family, communities, and government to live peacefully. Aceh province, who has implemented Islamic law called sharia since a decade ago, have various art performances, languages, folk dance, traditional costume, and traditional foods that represent Aceh Islamic tradition that is harmonious with its slogan Mecca\u27s Veranda (Serambi Mekkah). The effort to implement character\u27s based curriculum in all schools in Aceh is a good chance to raise children to become adult that have moral ground and intelligent who understand technology and faith in facing globalization. By integrating religious and traditional values in education, we are expecting the students to have those good life skills in living social life in Islamic way

    An Evaluation on the Compliance to Safety Helmet Usage among Motorcyclists in Batu Pahat, Johor

    This paper presents methods on how to determine the level of practice of usage of safetyhelmet among motorcyclist in Batu Pahat and to identify the target group who are most likelyto violate the safety helmet law among. A questionnaire study was carried out in urban andrural Batu Pahat. A total of 185 respondents were interviewed and the data was analyzed usingthe statistics. Six variables were found to be significant at percent level (p<0.05): gender,education level, type of safety helmet, distance of travel, riding experience and location oftravel. Practice of safety helmet usage among motorcyclist in Batu Pahat was found to behigher for female riders, higher educated riders, full shell helmet users, travelling at a distanceof 1 km to 10 km, riders having good practice and riders in the town area. All the variablesabove are contributing factors in the practice of helmet usage among motorcyclists in BatuPahat. Subsequently, the road safety programs and enforcement teams should be more focusedon male riders, rider with low education levels, half shell helmet riders, 10 km and belowdistance, riding experience for 10 years above and rural riders based on their lower practice ofusing safety helmet

    Chemical Speciation and Potential Mobility of Heavy Metals in the Soil of Former Tin Mining Catchment

    This study describes the chemical speciation of Pb, Zn, Cu, Cr, As, and Sn in soil of former tin mining catchment. Total five sites were selected for sampling and subsequent subsamples were collected from each site in order to create a composite sample for analysis. Samples were analysed by the sequential extraction procedure using optical emission spectrometry (ICP OES). Small amounts of Cu, Cr, and As retrieved from the exchangeable phase, the ready available for biogeochemical cycles in the ecosystem. Low quantities of Cu and As could be taken up by plants in these kind of acidic soils. Zn not detected in the bioavailable forms while Pb is only present in negligible amounts in very few samples. The absence of mobile forms of Pb eliminates the toxic risk both in the trophic chain and its migration downwards the soil profile. The results also indicate that most of the metals have high abundance in residual fraction indicating lithogenic origin and low bioavailability of the metals in the studied soil.     Predictability of complex modulus using rheological models

    The objective of this study was to investigate the advantages and disadvantages of several linear visco-elastic rheological models applied to the unmodified and polymer-modified bitumens. It was found that all the models studied can be used to predict the linear visco-elastic of unmodified bitumens, aged and unaged samples reasonably well. In contrary, this condition was not really applicable on polymer-modified bitumens particularly for the unaged samples. The measured and predicted data was assessed using the discrepancy ratio (Ri), Mean Normalized Error (MNE) and Average Geometric Deviation (AGD) goodness of fitting statistical analysis. From the study, the modified Sigmoidal and Generalized Logistic Sigmoidal models were observed to be the most outstanding models, followed by the Christensen Anderson and Marasteanu (CAM), Christensen and Anderson (CA) and 2S2P1D (2 springs, 2 parabolic elements and 1 spring) models. The presence of semi-crystalline waves and elastomeric structures in the mixtures render the breakdown of time temperature equivalency principle

    Weighted‐selective aggregated majority‐OWA operator and its application in linguistic group decision making

    This paper focuses on the aggregation operations in the group decision-making model based on the concept of majority opinion. The weighted-selective aggregated majority-OWA (WSAM-OWA) operator is proposed as an extension of the SAM-OWA operator, where the reliability of information sources is considered in the formulation. The WSAM-OWA operator is generalized to the quanti- fied WSAM-OWA operator by including the concept of linguistic quantifier, mainly for the group fusion strategy. The QWSAM-IOWA operator, with an ordering step, is introduced to the individual fusion strategy. The proposed aggregation operators are then implemented for the case of alternative scheme of heterogeneous group decision analysis. The heterogeneous group includes the consensus of experts with respect to each specific criterion. The exhaustive multicriteria group decision-making model under the linguistic domain, which consists of two-stage aggregation processes, is developed in order to fuse the experts' judgments and to aggregate the criteria. The model provides greater flexibility when analyzing the decision alternatives with a tolerance that considers the majority of experts and the attitudinal character of experts. A selection of investment problem is given to demonstrate the applicability of the developed model

    STRESS AND ITS RELIEF AMONG UNDERGRADUATE DENTAL STUDENTS IN MALAYSIA

    This study was conducted to identify the prevalence of stress, types of stressors, consequences of stress and stress relievers among undergraduate dental students at the University of Malaya during the different years of study. A descriptive cross-sectional quantitative study was conducted using a self-administered questionnaire among Bachelor of Dental Surgery students during Years 2 to 5. A 100 response rate was obtained. The instrument asked questions about the preceding academic year. The results of the questionnaire reveal the prevalence of stress was 100. The most common cause of stress among preclinical students was academic concerns and among clinical students was patient management and clinical performance. Physical and behavioral problems were reported as consequences of stress. Most students overcame stress by having strong interpersonal relationships.     Microwave Assisted Extraction of Defatted Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) Seed at Subcritical Conditions with Statistical Analysis

    Roselle seeds are the waste product of roselle processing, but they are now labeled as a polyphenol source with great herbal quality. In this work, polyphenols were extracted using ethanol-water (70% (v/v)) in a closed vessel under microwave irradiation. The main objective was to determine the optimal parameters statistically. The influence of extraction time (4–10 min), microwave power (100–300 W), and solvent/solid ratio (25–100 mL/g) was studied. The total phenolic and flavonoids content were determined using Folin-Ciocalteu and aluminum chloride methods, respectively.Without temperature control, the subcritical conditions could occur and the highest flavonoid content (14.4251mg QE/g) was achieved at 158∘C and 16.4 bar. Although the optimum MAE conditions (10 min, 300W, and 97.7178 mL/g) resulted in the highest yield (65.0367%) and phenolic content (18.2244mgGAE/g), lowflavonoids content (6.4524mg QE/g) was unexpectedly obtained due to degradation at 163∘C
