    Get PDF
The present system of maritime education and training for engineers in Myanmar has existed since 1963, It is very close to the old British system of maritime training. Marine engineers trained in this way have been found to be competent and qualified in their profession. Despite this satisfactory achievement, it is necessary to modify the existing training system to keep abreast with the changing global system and developing standards\u3c The purpose of this study is to highlight the maritime education and training system presently used in Myanmar and to propose some modifications needed to comply with international standards. This paper contains seven chapters. Four of them present the current situation in Myanmar: They cover the Shipping Industry, the implementation of International Conventions and the Training and Examination systems used for maritime personnel. In Chapter 4 a comparison is made between existing training syllabi and STCW 1976 minimum requirements. Chapter 6 deals with the Maritime Education and Training programs of several countries which have modern systems. Recommendations, which are my own views, are made in the last chapter. They come from knowledge gained during my two years of study at the World Maritime University. With the approval of the authorities concerned, this study paper could provide guidance in improving the Myanmar marine engineering training system

The pervious concrete is designed with cementitious material content just enough to coat the coarse aggregate particles so that a configuration that allows the passage of water at a much higher rate than conventional concrete. The pervious concrete has many advantages that improves city environment, recharges the ground by rain water and could be used as pavement for light vehicles, pedestrian pathways, parking lots, also it reduces the tire pavement interaction noise etc. In this paper, structural property and permeability of pervious concrete made without and with different ratios of fine aggregate and pozzolan. 9.5 mm maximum size of crushed gravel and constant aggregate/cement ratio of 3.6 were used. Mix design void content is tested 20%. The specific gravity of fine aggregate 2.53 and the specific gravity of crushed stone 2.56. Type I Portland cement and water- reducing and retarding concrete admixture were used. Mix design is based on the no slump method from the American Concrete Instituteโ€™s Committee 211.3R-02, โ€œStandard Practice for Selecting Proportions for No Slump Concrete.โ€ This research work was divided into third/three sections. The first section is without pozzolan and fine aggregate and second section is with two different ratios of pozzolan third section is without pozzolan and with fine aggregate. Pozzolan is used as a supplementary cementitious material to partially replace Portland cement in pervious concrete mixes up to 20% by weight. Fine aggregate partially replace as a coarse aggregate in pervious concrete mixes up to 10% by weight. Mix design void content is tested 20%. This concrete is tested for its properties, such as density, void content, compressive strength and water permeability. The most important property of pervious concrete is its water permeability

Domain-specific Sentiment Dictionary Construction for Sentiment Classification

    Get PDF
Sentiment dictionaries are commonly used to solve the problem of sentiment classification for customer reviews. The number of sentiment words in the generalized dictionaries such as SentiWordNet is limited and lack of many sentiment words especially domain-specific sentiment words. Different domains have different sentiment words and the sentiment of a word depends on the domain in which it is used. In this paper, an approach based on Point-wise Mutual Information (PMI) is proposed to construct a domain-specific sentiment dictionary effectively and automatically. The proposed system is evaluated on three diverse datasets from different domains by using 10-fold cross validation. Accordingly to the experimental results, the goodness of the extracted dictionary is relatively high and significantly improves the performance of sentiment classification. The experimental results show that the extracted domain-specific dictionary outperforms the generalized dictionary, SentiWordNet. The proposed method learns the domain-specific sentiment words efficiently and it is domain adaptable

In this research, the performance of two airfoils are compared by using Numerical analysis. There are so many dedicated airfoils to be used in various kinds of wind turbine blades. The lift coefficient and drag coefficient are the key parameters to determine the airfoil performance. The right choice of airfoil gives good performance in wind turbine blade design based on the available wind velocity, Reynold number, blade material. The author wants to compare the performance of 3D model two airfoils (SG 6043 and NACA 4412) for low Reynold number; less than 500,000 [1]. The numerical simulation is carried out by using Ansys-Fluent software. The lift and drag coefficients are compared based on different angle of attack 0ยบ, 5ยบ, 10ยบ at wind velocity 10m/s, rated wind velocity for intended regions. The design chord length is 0.5m and width of the wing is 0.25m. The numerical results are compared with the results of Profili 2.0c software. By doing this simulation, understand their flow nature and the performance of two airfoil profiles is compared. Therefore, the suitable airfoil will be used in local horizontal axis wind turbine industries.

    Domain-Specific Sentiment Lexicon for Classification

    Get PDF
Nowadays people express their opinions about products, government policies, schemes and programs over social media sites using web or mobile. At the present time, in our country, government changes policies in every sector and people follow with the eyes or the mind on these policies and express their opinion by writing comments on social media especially using Facebook news media pages. Therefore, our research group intends to do sentiment analysis on new articles. Domain-specific sentiment lexicon has played an important role in opinion mining system. Due to the ubiquitous domain diversity and absence of domain-specific prior knowledge, construction of domain-specific lexicon has become a challenging research topic in recent year. In this paper, lexicon construction for sentiment analysis is described. In this work, there are two main steps: (1) pre-processing on raw data comments that are extracted from Facebook news media pages and (2) constructing lexicon for coming classification work. The word correlation and chi-square statistic are applied to construct lexicon as desired. Experimental results on comments datasets demonstrate that proposed approach is suitable for construction the domain-specific lexicon

Corporate governance and strategic information disclosure in Malaysian listed banks : panel data analysis

    Get PDF
Corporate governance issue has attracted the researchers, especially the Malaysian researchers due to the 1997-1998 economic crises. Furthermore, it is undeniable that the banking sector is the heart of the economy in any country since it is the main source in mobilizing the monetary system. Thus, this study investigates the impact of corporate governance on strategic information disclosure of Malaysian listed banks by using a panel data analysis. Good corporate governance is proxied by board leadership structure, board composition, board size, director ownership, institutional ownership and block ownership. Strategic information disclosure index is developed and content analysis is conducted by cross checking between the strategic information disclosed in the annual reports and the disclosure index developed by the researcher. The disclosure score used in this study is weighted disclosure score after considering the opinions of accountants and financial analysts who represent preparers and users of the accounting information respectively. INE_BZ (at 1% Sig. level, BOWN (at 5% Sig. level) and BLS and DOWN are in line with hypothesis while BZ (at 1% Sig. level) and IOWN are not. Thus, it can be concluded that separate board leadership structure, higher INE_BZ, higher BZ, lower DOWN, lower BOWN and lower IOWN have more strategic information disclosure. With regard to control variables, only LNTA has a significant impact on disclosure but the finding from leverage, i.e. TD_TE. The current prevailing situations in Malaysia are discussed to highlight the reasons behind these research findings

    Get PDF
Background: Several MYB genes belonging to R2R3 MYB transcription factors have been used in several plant species to enhance anthocyanin production, and have shown various expression or regulation patterns. This study focused on the effect of ectopic expression of an RsMYB1 isolated from radish ( Raphanus sativa ) on chrysanthemum cv. \u2018Shinma\u2019. Results: The RT-PCR results confirmed that RsMYB1 regulated the expression of three key biosynthetic genes (CmF3H, CmDFR, and CmANS) that are responsible for anthocyanin production in transgenic chrysanthemum, but were not detected in the non-transgenic line. In all transgenic plants, higher expression levels of key biosynthetic genes were observed in flowers than in leaves. However, the presence of RsMYB1 in chrysanthemum did not affect any morphological characteristics, such as plant height, leaf shape or size, and number of flowers. Furthermore, no anthocyanin accumulation was visually observed in the leaves and floral tissue of any of the transgenic lines, which was further confirmed by anthocyanin content estimation. Conclusion: To our knowledge, this is the first time the role of an MYB transcription factor in anthocyanin production has been investigated in chrysanthemum
