Genome sequencing and population genomic analyses provide insights into the adaptive landscape of silver birch

Silver birch (Betula pendula) is a pioneer boreal tree that can be induced to flower within 1 year. Its rapid life cycle, small (440-Mb) genome, and advanced germplasm resources make birch an attractive model for forest biotechnology. We assembled and chromosomally anchored the nuclear genome of an inbred B. pendula individual. Gene duplicates from the paleohexaploid event were enriched for transcriptional regulation, whereas tandem duplicates were overrepresented by environmental responses. Population resequencing of 80 individuals showed effective population size crashes at major points of climatic upheaval. Selective sweeps were enriched among polyploid duplicates encoding key developmental and physiological triggering functions, suggesting that local adaptation has tuned the timing of and cross-talk between fundamental plant processes. Variation around the tightly-linked light response genes PHYC and FRS10 correlated with latitude and longitude and temperature, and with precipitation for PHYC. In the version of this article initially published, there was a mistake in the calculation of the nucleotide mutation rate per site per generation: 1 × 10−9 mutations per site per generation was used, whereas 9.5 × 10−9 was correct. Työnjohtajakohtainen kustannustenhallinta ja -seuranta

Insinöörityön tavoitteena oli tutkia NCC Rakennus Oy:n korjausrakentamisen yksikössä työskentelevien työnjohtajien valmiutta suorittaa työvaihekohtaista kustannustenhallintaa ja -seurantaa. Tarkoituksena oli luoda työkalu helpottamaan työnjohtajien toimintaa ja kartoittaa, mitkä ovat työnjohtajien valmiudet tällä hetkellä seurata omien vastuualueidensa kustannusten kertymistä. Työssä perehdyttiin rakennushankkeen kustannushallintaan yleisesti sekä etenkin työnjohtajien työvaihekohtaiseen kustannustenhallintaan ja -seurantaan sekä sen taustalla oleviin tekijöihin kuten sopimustuntemukseen, kustannushallintaan ja asenteeseen kustannushallintaa sekä työnjohtamista kohtaan. Näitä valmiuksia tutkittiin haastattelemalla työnjohtajien esimiehiä ja työmaainsinöörejä sekä itse työnjohtajia. Työnjohtajien tämän hetkisistä valmiuksista tehtiin lisäksi arviointi siihen kehitetyn kyselyn perusteella. Tätä kyselyä on mahdollista käyttää tulevaisuudessa myös kehittymisen seurantaa varten. Insinöörityön lopputuloksena syntyi ohje NCC Rakennus Oy:n korjausrakentamisyksikön käyttöön, jolla on tarkoitus opastaa työnjohtajia entistä huolellisempaan työvaihekohtaiseen kustannustenhallintaan ja -seurantaan. Ohjeen avulla työnjohtaja voi kehittää omaa toimintaansa tai oppia ottamaan selvää kustannushallinnan vaatimista työtehtävistä. Näitä työtehtäviä ovat litteroiden seuraaminen tietokoneohjelman tai työmaainsinöörin tietojen avulla sekä aliurakkasopimuksen huolellinen läpikäyminen ja tulkitseminen. Työhön kirjattiin kehitysideoita ja toimenpiteitä tämän hetkisen toiminnan kehittämiseksi. Niiden tarkoituksena on ohjata työnjohtajien esimiehiä hyödyntämään lopputuotteeksi kehitettyä ohjetta ja opastaa esimiehiä vaatimaan työnjohtajilta tulevaisuudessa enemmän kustannushallintaan liittyvissä työtehtävissä.The subject of this thesis was to study the abilities of foremen working for the renovation unit of NCC Construction Ltd. considering the work stage-specific cost control and follow-up. The aim was to create an aid to ease the foremen with their tasks and to gather information about the current readiness to follow up the cost accumulation in their area of responsibility. The thesis deals with the cost management of construction project in general and especially in work stage-specific cost control and follow-up and the factors behind them such as contract knowledge and motivation towards the cost control and supervising in general. These abilities are studied through the interviews of the supervisors of the foremen, the product engineers and the foremen themselves. A valuation for the readiness of the foremen was done with a valuation form created for the purpose. This valuation can be used in future to follow up the development. The result of this thesis was a manual for the renovation unit of NCC Construction Ltd. which aims to guide the foremen towards the more thorough work stage-specific cost control and follow-up. With this manual the foremen can improve their activity or learn how to find new information considering the tasks which are required for the cost control. These tasks include the follow-up of the cost divisions with a computer program or with the help of the production engineer and the thorough understanding of the subcontractor’s contract. The development ideas and steps were gathered for this thesis to improve the ongoing activity. The purpose of these steps and ideas is to guide the supervisors of the foremen so they know how to make the most out of the manual and how to demand more in the future considering the tasks of cost control
