Gold-catalyzed 1, 3-Thiazine formation and uncommon tautomer isolation

    Get PDF
This work represents the first example of a gold-catalyzed formation of 1, 3-thiazine/1, 3-thiazinane by means of a catalytic approach and further uncommon isolation of the two tautomers. The developed protocol gives rise to a broad scope of 1, 3-thiazine derivatives with excellent yields in short reaction times. Interestingly, different isomers could be obtained depending on the state of the compound, and in the crystal state the 1, 3-thiazinane isomer is obtained, while in solution the 1, 3-thiazine is the unique isomer. This work represents an interesting approach for the synthesis of potential biologically relevant molecules and a crucial precedent in tautomerism isolation and characterization. © 2022 American Chemical Society. Effect of gypsum content in sprayed cementitious matrices: Early age hydration and mechanical properties

    Get PDF
© 2018 Elsevier Ltd Sprayed materials must present short setting times and a fast early strength development for safety and productivity reasons. In order to improve these characteristics, the construction industry has focused on the development of new formulations of accelerators. Research and improvement of other components of the mix, such as cement or additions, have not advanced at the same rate despite being also crucial for the reaction kinetics. The objective of this work is to evaluate the influence of gypsum content on the hydration and mechanical strength development in sprayed mixes. Sprayed pastes and mortars were prepared with one type of cement, two types of accelerators and different gypsum contents. Kinetics, mechanisms of hydration and mechanical properties were evaluated. Results showed a better performance in sprayed mixes that contain ideal doses of gypsum. Such approach provides valuable information for the improvement of the formulation of cement used in sprayed concrete applications

Selecting Undergraduate Students as Library Research Subjects from a Diversity Perspective

    Get PDF
Undergraduate students are usually the largest populations in higher education institutions. More information about qualitative aspects of learning practices and deeper knowledge about student needs is necessary to understand and promote a more implicated role of libraries in undergraduate student learning. The project reported at this poster is developed by researchers from two private universities libraries in Mexico. The research methodology used is mixed. After analysis and discussion of initial data some student’s characteristics were established as diversity markers which we expect will facilitate to select students for deep interview in order to listen the variety of undergraduate voices and analyze them to guide the design of new library spaces, collections and services We expect also that the methodology developed will help to select participants from other library user groups from a diversity perspective

Design of a case management model for people with chronic disease (Heart Failure and COPD). Phase I: modeling and identification of the main components of the intervention through their actors: patients and professionals (DELTA-ICE-PRO Study

Background Chronic diseases account for nearly 60% of deaths around the world. The extent of this silent epidemic has not met determined responses in governments, policies or professionals in order to transform old Health Care Systems, configured for acute diseases. There is a large list of research about alternative models for people with chronic conditions, many of them with an advanced practice nurse as a key provider, as case management. But some methodological concerns raise, above all, the design of the intervention (intensity, frequency, components, etc). Methods/Design Objectives: General: To develop the first and second phases (theorization and modeling) for designing a multifaceted case-management intervention in people with chronic conditions (COPD and heart failure) and their caregivers. Specific aims: 1) To identify key events in people living with chronic disease and their relation with the Health Care System, from their point of view. 2) To know the coping mechanisms developed by patients and their caregivers along the story with the disease. 3) To know the information processing and its utilization in their interactions with health care providers. 4) To detect potential unmet needs and the ways deployed by patients and their caregivers to resolve them. 5) To obtain a description from patients and caregivers, about their itineraries along the Health Care System, in terms of continuity, accessibility and comprehensiveness of care. 6) To build up a list of promising case-management interventions in patients with Heart Failure and COPD with this information in order to frame it into theoretical models for its reproducibility and conceptualization. 7) To undergo this list to expert judgment to assess its feasibility and pertinence in the Andalusian Health Care. Design: Qualitative research with two phases: For the first five objectives, a qualitative technique with biographic stories will be developed and, for the remaining objectives, an expert consensus through Delphi technique, on the possible interventions yielded from the first phase. The study will be developed in the provinces of Almería, Málaga and Granada in the Southern Spain, from patients included in the Andalusian Health Care Service database with the diagnosis of COPD or Heart Failure, with the collaboration of case manager nurses and general practitioners for the assessment of their suitability to inclusion criteria. Patients and caregivers will be interviewed in their homes or their Health Centers, with their family or their case manager nurse as mediator. Discussion First of a series of studies intended to design a case-management service for people with heart failure and COPD, in the Andalusian Health Care System, where case management has been implemented since 2002. Accordingly with the steps of a theoretical model for complex interventions, in this study, theorization and intervention modeling phases will be developed. This research was carried out with the support of one research grant, awarded by the Regional Health Ministry of Andalusia (Exp. 0222/2008

Methodology of the Virtual Reconstruction of Arquitectonic Heritage: Ambassador Vich's Palace in Valencia

The 19th century was disastrous as far as the conservation of architectonic heritage is concerned. The awareness of the importance of preserving monuments that has prevailed since the end of the last century was dazzlingly absent in the previous, leading both to the disappearance of representative heritage works and the plundering of many others. The present study establishes the methodological basis to proceed with the virtual reconstruction of many disappeared architectures, representative of emblematic architectonic typologies. A method based on the combination of deduction and induction allows benchmarks to be created that signify a starting point to which the key and specific elements of each building are later incorporated, from the data extracted from the conserved parts and the graphic, literary and archive documents. The result is the virtual recovery of the general outlines of the architecture: morphology of the plot, volumetry, exterior and interior facades, and the functional layout. The good results obtained in the study of the disappeared Ambassador Vich's Palace, allow the methodology to be extended to the analysis of other similar examples, serving investigators as a tool to carry out an arduous task of deciphering a trail that is increasingly fading with the passing of time.

    Get PDF
