    Magnetic studies of GaN nanoceramics

The synthesis, morphology and magnetization measurements of GaN nanoceramics obtained under high pressure are reported. In particular the effect of grain size on magnetic properties of GaN nanopowders and nanoceramics was investigated. It was found that for the GaN nanoceramic characterized by the stronger deformation of nanocrystalline grains the diamagnetic signal changes with external magnetic field similarly to the Meissner effect in superconductors.Comment: 3 pages, 4 figures, accepted Appl.Phys.Let

Treball final de Grau en Finances i Comptabilitat. Codi: FC1049. Curs acadèmic 2014-2015Despite the advantages of reporting on business risks and the existence of a growing demand for information, risk reporting within firms is still reduced. The present work describes briefly the main aspects related to the problematic of risk reporting and analyses the relation between corporate variables and risks disclosed by firms. Information on risks has been collected from the annual reports of 27 Spanish firms for the years 2009 and 2010. After different regression analysis to contrast hypothesis stated before, significant relations have been found out between risks disclosure and corporate variables such as profitability or level of risk

Bully-victimization, depression, and school connectedness in early adolescent students

    Get PDF
During early adolescence, schools play a significant role in the development of students. An issue that continues to be a serious concern for students, parents, teachers, and school officials in the U.S. and around the world is bullying. The primary purpose of this study was to examine school connectedness as a mediator between bully-victimization and depressive symptomatology in early adolescence. The secondary purpose of the study was to explore how gender and bullying classification groups (i.e., bully, victim, bully-victim, and non-involved) may relate to levels of reported school connectedness. The current study found low school connectedness partially mediated the relationship between bully victimization and depressive symptoms. Results also showed non-involved youth reported higher levels of school connectedness compared to bullies, victims, and bully-victim. The present study sought to expand literature of bullying, depression, and school connectedness in early adolescence with the aim of informing prevention, intervention and policy initiatives

The aim of this paper is to review the current interpretations of the late medieval economic growth in Castilian countryside in order to restore the peasants' role as economic agents. This involves a reassessment of the relationships between the peasants' economy and the market, together with a greater focus on the former's capacity in developing planned production strategies and on the overall implications in increasing labour productivity.

The road to gender equality in school education: The case of El Salvador (2016-2020)

The path taken by Salvadoran society to achieve gender equality in non-university education is undeniable. The implementation of numerous companies, the technical assistance of many countries, the collaboration of international institutions, and their financial support evidence, baking data extracted from the official censuses, that El Salvador is at the forefront of Hispanic Americans countries in equality policies. This article analyzes the data published by the entities working on gender equality and oficial agencies in El Salvador, for a present portrait and immediate future of gender equality policies in education.

Modeling Big Medical Survival Data Using Decision Tree Analysis with Apache Spark

In many medical studies, an outcome of interest is not only whether an event occurred, but when an event occurred; and an example of this is Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Identifying patients with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) who are likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is highly important for AD treatment. Previous studies suggest that not all MCI patients will convert to AD. Massive amounts of data from longitudinal and extensive studies on thousands of Alzheimer’s patients have been generated. Building a computational model that can predict conversion form MCI to AD can be highly beneficial for early intervention and treatment planning for AD. This work presents a big data model that contains machine-learning techniques to determine the level of AD in a participant and predict the time of conversion to AD. The proposed framework considers one of the widely used screening assessment for detecting cognitive impairment called Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). MoCA data set was collected from different centers and integrated into our large data framework storage using a Hadoop Data File System (HDFS); the data was then analyzed using an Apache Spark framework. The accuracy of the proposed framework was compared with a semi-parametric Cox survival analysis model
