    Relationship Between Emotional Intelligence and Health Behavior among Employees Working at Damanhour University/Egypt

    Emotional Intelligence (EI) is an emerging concept for understanding human behaviors. It is an essential feature for promotion of positive health behaviors and prevention of negative ones. The aim: assess the relationship between EI and health behavior among employees working at Damanhur University/Egypt. Design: A descriptive correlational research design was utilized. Setting the study was carried out in the main administrative building of Damanhur University. Participants: A simple random sampling technique was used to choose 200 employees. Tools: Three tools were used for data collection: A structured questionnaire for socio-demographic data, EI scale and health behavior scale. Results: A significant positive correlation was found between the total EI and health behavior scales and all of its domains (dietary behavior, personal care/health responsibility, injury and accident prevention and stress management) except smoking and physical exercise. Otherwise, a significant negative correlation was found between substance abuse behaviors and the total EI scale and its two subscales of emotions regulation and emotions perception and expression. Conclusion and Recommendations: EI is a helpful tool for promotion of positive health behaviors and prevention of risk behaviors. Thus, EI abilities should be taught for public as a target for health promotion through educational programs, campaigns, hotlines.     StEduCov: An Explored and Benchmarked Dataset on Stance Detection in Tweets towards Online Education during COVID-19 Pandemic

    In this paper, we present StEduCov, an annotated dataset for the analysis of stances toward online education during the COVID-19 pandemic. StEduCov consists of 16,572 tweets gathered over 15 months, from March 2020 to May 2021, using the Twitter API. The tweets were manually annotated into the classes agree, disagreeor neutral. We performed benchmarking on the dataset using state-of-the-art and traditional machine learning models. Specifically, we trained deep learning models-bidirectional encoder representations from transformers, long short-term memory, convolutional neural networks, attention-based biLSTM and Naive Bayes SVM-in addition to naive Bayes, logistic regression, support vector machines, decision trees, K-nearest neighbor and random forest. The average accuracy in the 10-fold cross-validation of these models ranged from 75% to (Formula presented.) % and from (Formula presented.) % to 68% for binary and multi-class stance classifications, respectively. Performances were affected by high vocabulary overlaps between classes and unreliable transfer learning using deep models pre-trained on general texts in relation to specific domains such as COVID-19 and distance education. 2022 by the authors.Scopu

    Role of sequential semen samples in infertile men candidates for assisted reproduction: A prospective study

    Objective: To study the beneficial effect of repeated sequential ejaculation in infertile men who are candidates for assisted reproduction.Materials and methods: The study included a total of 237 infertile males attending our infertility and IVF center from January 2016 till December 2017. All patients were asked to provide two semen samples (1–3 h apart) after an abstinence period of 3–7 days. The two consecutive semen samples were analyzed according to the 2010 WHO criteria for semen analysis and their parameters were compared.Results: The mean age for our study group was 35.7 years (20–56 year). Of the 237 subjects, 157 showed oligoasthenozoospermia on their initial semen sample while the remaining 80 were azoospermic. A statistically significant difference was detected between the 2 sequential semen samples regarding all semen parameters except grade A motility. Despite the significant decrease in seminal volume by sequential sampling, there was a statistically significant increase in sperm concentration in the second ejaculate compared to the first (6.2 ± 0.61 versus 3.4 ± 0.52 million/mL, respectively, p = 0.016). The mean normal sperm morphology also demonstrated a significant increase (2.1 ± 1.8–5.1 ± 2.6%, p < 0.002). Mean progressive sperm motility increased from 1.13 ± 0.31 to 1.7 ± 0.31% (p = 0.010) on repeated sampling. Also, we were able to retrieve viable sperm in 15% of the azoospermic patients whom were known to be azoospermic on previous occasions.Conclusions: Obtaining consecutive semen samples leads to improvements in the quality of many semen parameters (sperm concentration, motility and morphology) which may be of special importance for management of infertile couples especially those attempting assisted reproductive techniques

    Waste lipids to energy: how to optimize methane production from long-chain fatty acids (LCFA)

    The position of high-rate anaerobic technology (HR-AnWT) in the wastewater treatment and bioenergy market can be enhanced if the range of suitable substrates is expanded. Analyzing existing technologies, applications and problems, it is clear that, until now, wastewaters with high lipids content are not effectively treated by HR-AnWT. Nevertheless, waste lipids are ideal potential substrates for biogas production, since theoretically more methane can be produced, when compared with proteins or carbohydrates. In this minireview, the classical problems of lipids methanization in anaerobic processes are discussed and new concepts to enhance lipids degradation are presented. Reactors operation, feeding strategies and prospects of technological developments for wastewater treatment are discussed. Long-chain fatty acids (LCFA) degradation is accomplished by syntrophic communities of anaerobic bacteria and methanogenic archaea. For optimal performance these syntrophic communities need to be clustered in compact aggregates, which is often difficult to achieve with wastewaters that contain fats and lipids.     Biliary fistula and late recurrence of liver hydatid cyst: Role of cysto-biliary communication: A prospective multicenter study

    Background: Hydatid cyst disease (HCD) is common in certain locations. Surgery is associated with postoperative biliary fistula (POBF) and recurrence. The primary aim of this study was to identify whether occult cysto-biliary communication (CBC) can predict recurrent HCD. The secondary aim was to assess the role of cystic fluid bilirubin and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels in predicting POBF and recurrent HCD. Aim: To identify whether occult CBC can predict recurrent HCD. The secondary aim was to assess the role of cystic fluid bilirubin and ALP levels in predicting POBF and recurrent HCD. Methods: From September 2010 to September 2016, a prospective multicenter study was undertaken involving 244 patients with solitary primary superficial stage cystic echinococcosis 2 and cystic echinococcosis 3b HCD who underwent laparoscopic partial cystectomy with omentoplasty. Univariable logistic regression analysis assessed independent factors determining biliary complications and recurrence. Results: There was a highly statistically significant association (P ≤ 0.001) between cystic fluid biochemical indices and the development of biliary complications (of 16 patients with POBF, 15 patients had high cyst fluid bilirubin and ALP levels), where patients with high bilirubin-ALP levels were 3405 times more likely to have biliary complications. There was a highly statistically significant association (P ≤ 0.001) between biliary complications, biochemical indices, and the occurrence of recurrent HCD (of 30 patients with recurrent HCD, 15 patients had high cyst fluid bilirubin and ALP; all 16 patients who had POBF later developed recurrent HCD), where patients who developed biliary complications and high bilirubin-ALP were 244.6 and 214 times more likely to have recurrent hydatid cysts, respectively. Conclusion: Occult CBC can predict recurrent HCD. Elevated cyst fluid bilirubin and ALP levels predicted POBF and recurrent HCD

    Burnout among surgeons before and during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic: an international survey

    Background: SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has had many significant impacts within the surgical realm, and surgeons have been obligated to reconsider almost every aspect of daily clinical practice. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study reported in compliance with the CHERRIES guidelines and conducted through an online platform from June 14th to July 15th, 2020. The primary outcome was the burden of burnout during the pandemic indicated by the validated Shirom-Melamed Burnout Measure. Results: Nine hundred fifty-four surgeons completed the survey. The median length of practice was 10 years; 78.2% included were male with a median age of 37 years old, 39.5% were consultants, 68.9% were general surgeons, and 55.7% were affiliated with an academic institution. Overall, there was a significant increase in the mean burnout score during the pandemic; longer years of practice and older age were significantly associated with less burnout. There were significant reductions in the median number of outpatient visits, operated cases, on-call hours, emergency visits, and research work, so, 48.2% of respondents felt that the training resources were insufficient. The majority (81.3%) of respondents reported that their hospitals were included in the management of COVID-19, 66.5% felt their roles had been minimized; 41% were asked to assist in non-surgical medical practices, and 37.6% of respondents were included in COVID-19 management. Conclusions: There was a significant burnout among trainees. Almost all aspects of clinical and research activities were affected with a significant reduction in the volume of research, outpatient clinic visits, surgical procedures, on-call hours, and emergency cases hindering the training.     Impact of opioid-free analgesia on pain severity and patient satisfaction after discharge from surgery: multispecialty, prospective cohort study in 25 countries

    Background: Balancing opioid stewardship and the need for adequate analgesia following discharge after surgery is challenging. This study aimed to compare the outcomes for patients discharged with opioid versus opioid-free analgesia after common surgical procedures.Methods: This international, multicentre, prospective cohort study collected data from patients undergoing common acute and elective general surgical, urological, gynaecological, and orthopaedic procedures. The primary outcomes were patient-reported time in severe pain measured on a numerical analogue scale from 0 to 100% and patient-reported satisfaction with pain relief during the first week following discharge. Data were collected by in-hospital chart review and patient telephone interview 1 week after discharge.Results: The study recruited 4273 patients from 144 centres in 25 countries; 1311 patients (30.7%) were prescribed opioid analgesia at discharge. Patients reported being in severe pain for 10 (i.q.r. 1-30)% of the first week after discharge and rated satisfaction with analgesia as 90 (i.q.r. 80-100) of 100. After adjustment for confounders, opioid analgesia on discharge was independently associated with increased pain severity (risk ratio 1.52, 95% c.i. 1.31 to 1.76; P < 0.001) and re-presentation to healthcare providers owing to side-effects of medication (OR 2.38, 95% c.i. 1.36 to 4.17; P = 0.004), but not with satisfaction with analgesia (beta coefficient 0.92, 95% c.i. -1.52 to 3.36; P = 0.468) compared with opioid-free analgesia. Although opioid prescribing varied greatly between high-income and low- and middle-income countries, patient-reported outcomes did not.Conclusion: Opioid analgesia prescription on surgical discharge is associated with a higher risk of re-presentation owing to side-effects of medication and increased patient-reported pain, but not with changes in patient-reported satisfaction.     The Khanaqah is an archaeological site that was used as a military fort during the period of the French campaign (1798 – 1805 on Egypt). It was built by Prince Nizamuddin, one of the Mamluk princes in the year 757 AH (1356 AD), Located in the Hatabah neighbourhood, the neighborhood is located under the citadel of Salah al-Din al-Ayoubi, from the north side, and that is precisely in the high place from the level of Bab al-Wazir area where the rest of the blotting of Salah Eddin al-Ayoubi was erected, this is an excellent location overlooking Cairo, especially the eastern part of it.The proximity of the Hutabah area, where the Nizamia Khanaqah was constructed from the citadel of Salahuddin al-Ayoubi, had a significant impact on the region of the military and political events that have taken place in the region, the area has been looted and destroyed, most of these events were during the reign of the Mamluk and the Ottomans rule where this area has experienced as well as the nearby and adjacent areas around the castle disputes the princes of the Mamluk era, especially at the Circassian era, as the region experienced in the Ottoman era disputes between the Mamluk princes On power in Egypt when Egypt became an Ottoman state. One of the incidents that occurred in the region was that in the year 1215 AH (1800 AD), there was destruction, demolition and change of monuments, diversification of grievances from the French and the destruction of the ruins. The French blocked Bab al-Fotouh with building, as well as bab al barkia and el bab el mahrouk door , and they established several castles over the hills, in terms of Bab al-Nasr to Bab al-Wazir, and the Sowah area where they demolished Ras al-Sawa buildings, including the Hattaba area and Bab al-Wazir beneath the castle, and the old schools and tall domes, and destroyed the minaret of el Khanka el Nizamia and made it a fortress, the search aims to work out an analytical study of the architectural changes that have taken place on the Khanaqah, as well as an analytical study of the opening holes of the guns and cannons in the walls of the Khanah

    Effect of Digital-Based Self-Learned Educational Intervention about COVID-19 Using Protection Motivation Theory on Non-Health Students’ Knowledge and Self-Protective Behaviors at Saudi Electronic University

    Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has disastrous impacts that impose the cultivation of knowledge and motivation of self-protection to foster disease containment. Aim: Evaluate the effect of digital self-learned educational intervention about COVID-19 using the protection motivation theory (PMT) on non-health students’ knowledge and self-protective behaviors at Saudi Electronic University (SEU). Methods: A quasi-experimental study was accomplished at three randomly chosen branches of SEU (Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah) using a multistage sampling technique to conveniently select 219 students. An electronic self-administered questionnaire was used, which included three scales for assessing the students’ knowledge, self-protective behaviors, and the constructs of the PMT. The educational intervention was designed using four stages: need assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. A peer-reviewed digital educational content was developed after assessing the participants’ educational needs using the pretest. Then, distributed through their university emails. A weekly synchronous Zoom cloud meeting and daily key health messages were shared with them. Finally, the post-test was conducted after two months. Results: The mean participants’ age (SD) among the experimental group was 28.94 (6.719), and the control group was 27.80 (7.256), with a high female percentage (63.4%, 73.8%) and a previous history of direct contact with verified COVID-19 patients (78.6%, 69.2%), respectively. A significant positive mean change (p = 0.000) was detected in the total COVID-19 knowledge of the experimental group post-intervention, either when it was adjusted for the covariates effect of the control group (F1 = 630.547) or the pretest (F1 = 8.585) with a large effect size (η2 = 0.745, η2 = 0.268, respectively). The same was proved by the ANCOVA test for the total self-protective behaviors either when it adjusted for the covariates effect of the control group (F1 = 66.671, p = 0.000) or the pretest (F1 = 5.873, p = 0.020) with a large effect size (η2 = 0.236, η2 = 0.164, respectively). The ANCOVA test proved that post-intervention, all the PMT constructs (perceived threats, reward appraisal, efficacy appraisal, response cost, and protection intention) and the total PMT score were significantly improved (p = 0.000) among the experimental group either when adjusted for the covariates effect of the control group (F1 = 83.835) or the pretest (F1 = 11.658) with a large effect size (η2 = 0.280, η2 = 0.561, respectively). Conclusions: The digital PMT-based self-learned educational intervention effectively boosts non-health university students’ COVID-19 knowledge, protection motivation, and self-protective behaviors. Thus, PMT is highly praised as a basis for COVID-19-related educational intervention and, on similar occasions, future outbreaks
