Latest Results from the Heidelberg-Moscow Double Beta Decay Experiment
New results for the double beta decay of 76Ge are presented. They are
extracted from Data obtained with the HEIDELBERG-MOSCOW, which operates five
enriched 76Ge detectors in an extreme low-level environment in the GRAN SASSO.
The two neutrino accompanied double beta decay is evaluated for the first time
for all five detectors with a statistical significance of 47.7 kg y resulting
in a half life of (T_(1/2))^(2nu) = [1.55 +- 0.01 (stat) (+0.19) (-0.15)
(syst)] x 10^(21) years. The lower limit on the half-life of the 0nu beta-beta
decay obtained with pulse shape analysis is (T_(1/2))^(0_nu) > 1.9 x 10^(25)
[3.1 x 10^(25)] years with 90% C.L. (68% C.L.) (with 35.5 kg y). This results
in an upper limit of the effective Majorana neutrino mass of 0.35 eV (0.27 eV).
No evidence for a Majoron emitting decay mode or for the neutrinoless mode is
observed.Comment: 14 pages, revtex, 6 figures, Talk was presented at third

Effects of quantum space time foam in the neutrino sector
We discuss violations of CPT and quantum mechanics due to interactions of
neutrinos with space-time quantum foam. Neutrinoless double beta decay and
oscillations of neutrinos from astrophysical sources (supernovae, active
galactic nuclei) are analysed. It is found that the propagation distance is the
crucial quantity entering any bounds on EHNS parameters. Thus, while the bounds
from neutrinoless double beta decay are not significant, the data of the
supernova 1987a imply a bound being several orders of magnitude more stringent
than the ones known from the literature. Even more stringent limits may be
obtained from the investigation of neutrino oscillations from active galactic
nuclei sources, which have an impressive potential for the search of quantum
foam interactions in the neutrino sector.Comment: 5 page
Non-Baryonic Dark Matter - Observational Evidence and Detection Methods
The evidence for the existence of dark matter in the universe is reviewed. A
general picture emerges, where both baryonic and non-baryonic dark matter is
needed to explain current observations. In particular, a wealth of
observational information points to the existence of a non-baryonic component,
contributing between around 20 and 40 percent of the critical mass density
needed to make the universe geometrically flat on large scales. In addition, an
even larger contribution from vacuum energy (or cosmological constant) is
indicated by recent observations. To the theoretically favoured particle
candidates for non-baryonic dark matter belong axions, supersymmetric
particles, and of less importance, massive neutrinos. The theoretical
foundation and experimental situation for each of these is reviewed. Direct and
indirect methods for detection of supersymmetric dark matter are described in
some detail. Present experiments are just reaching the required sensitivity to
discover or rule out some of these candidates, and major improvements are
planned over the coming years.Comment: Submitted to Reports on Progress in Physics, 59 pages, LaTeX, iopart

Measurement of ϒ production in pp collisions at √s = 2.76 TeV
The production of ϒ(1S), ϒ(2S) and ϒ(3S)
mesons decaying into the dimuon final state is studied with
the LHCb detector using a data sample corresponding to an
integrated luminosity of 3.3 pb−1 collected in proton–proton
collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of √s = 2.76 TeV. The
differential production cross-sections times dimuon branching
fractions are measured as functions of the ϒ transverse
momentum and rapidity, over the ranges pT < 15 GeV/c
and 2.0 < y < 4.5. The total cross-sections in this kinematic
region, assuming unpolarised production, are measured to be
σ (pp → ϒ(1S)X) × B
ϒ(1S)→μ+μ−
= 1.111 ± 0.043 ± 0.044 nb,
σ (pp → ϒ(2S)X) × B
ϒ(2S)→μ+μ−
= 0.264 ± 0.023 ± 0.011 nb,
σ (pp → ϒ(3S)X) × B
ϒ(3S)→μ+μ−
= 0.159 ± 0.020 ± 0.007 nb,
where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic
Study of the doubly charmed tetraquark T+cc
Quantum chromodynamics, the theory of the strong force, describes interactions of coloured quarks and gluons and the formation of hadronic matter. Conventional hadronic matter consists of baryons and mesons made of three quarks and quark-antiquark pairs, respectively. Particles with an alternative quark content are known as exotic states. Here a study is reported of an exotic narrow state in the D0D0π+ mass spectrum just below the D*+D0 mass threshold produced in proton-proton collisions collected with the LHCb detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The state is consistent with the ground isoscalar T+cc tetraquark with a quark content of ccu⎯⎯⎯d⎯⎯⎯ and spin-parity quantum numbers JP = 1+. Study of the DD mass spectra disfavours interpretation of the resonance as the isovector state. The decay structure via intermediate off-shell D*+ mesons is consistent with the observed D0π+ mass distribution. To analyse the mass of the resonance and its coupling to the D*D system, a dedicated model is developed under the assumption of an isoscalar axial-vector T+cc state decaying to the D*D channel. Using this model, resonance parameters including the pole position, scattering length, effective range and compositeness are determined to reveal important information about the nature of the T+cc state. In addition, an unexpected dependence of the production rate on track multiplicity is observed
Charge asymmetries for D, D_s and #LAMBDA#_c production in #SIGMA#"- -nucleus interactions at 340 GeV/c
CERN experiment WA89 has studied charmed particles produced by a #SIGMA#"-beam at 340 GeV/c on nuclear targets. Production of particles which have light quarks in common with the beam is compared to production of those which do not. Considerable production asymmetries between D"- and D"+, D_s"- and D_s"+ and #LAMBDA#_c and anti #LAMBDA#_c are observed. The results are compared with pion beam data and with theoretical calculations. First observation of the #XI#"-#pi#"+decay mode of the #XI#"0(1690) hyperon
We report the first observation of the #XI#"-#pi#"+ decay mode of the #XI#"0(1690), confirming the existence of this resonance. The #XI#"0(1690) were produced by #SIGMA#"- of 345 GeV/c mean momentum in copper and carbon targets. The mass and width are close to those observed earlier for the #XI#"-(1690) in the #LAMBDA#K"- decay channel. The product of inclusive production cross section and branching ratio is given relative to that of the #XI#"0(1530).
