Analytic Structure of Three-Mass Triangle Coefficients
``Three-mass triangles'' are a class of integral functions appearing in
one-loop gauge theory amplitudes. We discuss how the complex analytic
properties and singularity structures of these amplitudes can be combined with
generalised unitarity techniques to produce compact expressions for three-mass
triangle coefficients. We present formulae for the N=1 contributions to the
n-point NMHV amplitude.Comment: 22 pages; v3: NMHV n=point expression added. 7 point expression

Mossbauer neutrinos in quantum mechanics and quantum field theory
We demonstrate the correspondence between quantum mechanical and quantum
field theoretical descriptions of Mossbauer neutrino oscillations. First, we
compute the combined rate of Mossbauer neutrino emission, propagation,
and detection in quantum field theory, treating the neutrino as an internal
line of a tree level Feynman diagram. We include explicitly the effect of
homogeneous line broadening due to fluctuating electromagnetic fields in the
source and detector crystals and show that the resulting formula for
is identical to the one obtained previously (Akhmedov et al., arXiv:0802.2513)
for the case of inhomogeneous line broadening. We then proceed to a quantum
mechanical treatment of Mossbauer neutrinos and show that the oscillation,
coherence, and resonance terms from the field theoretical result can be
reproduced if the neutrino is described as a superposition of Lorentz-shaped
wave packet with appropriately chosen energies and widths. On the other hand,
the emission rate and the detection cross section, including localization and
Lamb-Mossbauer terms, cannot be predicted in quantum mechanics and have to be
put in by hand.Comment: LaTeX, 16 pages, 1 figure; v2: typos corrected; matches published

The No-Triangle Hypothesis for N=8 Supergravity
We study the perturbative expansion of N=8 supergravity in four dimensions
from the viewpoint of the ``no-triangle'' hypothesis, which states that
one-loop graviton amplitudes in N=8 supergravity only contain scalar box
integral functions. Our computations constitute a direct proof at six-points
and support the no-triangle conjecture for seven-point amplitudes and beyond.Comment: 43page
Penetration depth anisotropy in two-band superconductors
The anisotropy of the London penetration depth is evaluated for two-band
superconductors with arbitrary inter- and intra-band scattering times. If one
of the bands is clean and the other is dirty in the absence of inter-band
scattering, the anisotropy is dominated by the Fermi surface of the clean band
and is weakly temperature dependent. The inter-band scattering also suppress
the temperature dependence of the anisotropy
Generation of Large-Scale Vorticity in a Homogeneous Turbulence with a Mean Velocity Shear
An effect of a mean velocity shear on a turbulence and on the effective force
which is determined by the gradient of Reynolds stresses is studied. Generation
of a mean vorticity in a homogeneous incompressible turbulent flow with an
imposed mean velocity shear due to an excitation of a large-scale instability
is found. The instability is caused by a combined effect of the large-scale
shear motions (''skew-induced" deflection of equilibrium mean vorticity) and
''Reynolds stress-induced" generation of perturbations of mean vorticity.
Spatial characteristics, such as the minimum size of the growing perturbations
and the size of perturbations with the maximum growth rate, are determined.
This instability and the dynamics of the mean vorticity are associated with the
Prandtl's turbulent secondary flows. This instability is similar to the
mean-field magnetic dynamo instability. Astrophysical applications of the
obtained results are discussed.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures, REVTEX4, submitted to Phys. Rev.
Enhancement of the upper critical field by nonmagnetic impurities in dirty two-gap superconductors
Quasiclassic Uzadel equations for two-band superconductors in the dirty limit
with the account of both intraband and interband scattering by nonmagnetic
impurities are derived for any anisotropic Fermi surface. From these equations
the Ginzburg-Landau equations, and the critical temperature are obtained.
An equation for the upper critical field, which determines both the temperature
dependence of and the orientational dependence of
as a function of the angle between and the c-axis is
obtained. It is shown that the shape of the curve essentially
depends on the ratio of the intraband electron diffusivities and ,
and can be very different from the standard one-gap dirty limit theory. In
particular, the value can considerably exceed ,
which can have important consequences for applications of . A scaling
relation is proposed which enables one to obtain the angular dependence of
from the equation for at . It is shown
that, depending on the relation between and , the ratio of the upper
critical field for and can both increase and decrease as the temperature decreases. Implications
of the obtained results for are discussed
Spin Excitations in La2CuO4: Consistent Description by Inclusion of Ring-Exchange
We consider the square lattice Heisenberg antiferromagnet with plaquette ring
exchange and a finite interlayer coupling leading to a consistent description
of the spin-wave excitation spectrum in La2CuO4. The values of the in-plane
exchange parameters, including ring-exchange J_{\Box}, are obtained
consistently by an accurate fit to the experimentally observed in-plane
spin-wave dispersion, while the out-of-plane exchange interaction is found from
the temperature dependence of the sublattice magnetization at low temperatures.
The fitted exchange interactions J=151.9 meV and J_{\Box}=0.24 J give values
for the spin stiffness and the Neel temperature in excellent agreement with the
experimental data.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figure, RevTe
Microstructural evolution of a delta containing nickel-base superalloy during heat treatment and isothermal forging
The next generation of aerospace gas turbine engines need to operate at higher temperatures and stresses to improve their efficiency and reduce emissions. These operating conditions are beyond the capability of existing nickel-base superalloys, requiring the development of new high temperature materials. Controlling the microstructures of these new materials is key to obtaining the required properties and, therefore, it is critical to understand how these alloys respond to processing and heat treatment. Here, the microstructural evolution of V207M, a new δ containing, nickel-base superalloy, has been investigated following heat treatment and forging. The solvus temperatures of the γ′ and δ phases, determined by differential scanning calorimetry and microscopy, were found to be ~985 and ~1060 °C respectively. Isothermal forging of the alloy was conducted at 1000, 1050 and 1100 °C, corresponding to different volume fractions of retained δ. Considerable softening was observed prior to steady state flow when forging at 1000 °C, whilst only steady state flow occurred at 1050 and 1100 °C. The steady state flow process was believed to be dominated by dynamic recovery in the γ phase, with an activation energy of 407 kJmol−1. Samples that exhibited flow softening also showed a significant change in the orientation of the δ precipitates, preferentially aligning normal to the forging axis, and this reorientation was thought to be the cause of the observed flow softening
The First VERITAS Telescope
The first atmospheric Cherenkov telescope of VERITAS (the Very Energetic
Radiation Imaging Telescope Array System) has been in operation since February
2005. We present here a technical description of the instrument and a summary
of its performance. The calibration methods are described, along with the
results of Monte Carlo simulations of the telescope and comparisons between
real and simulated data. The analysis of TeV -ray observations of the
Crab Nebula, including the reconstructed energy spectrum, is shown to give
results consistent with earlier measurements. The telescope is operating as
expected and has met or exceeded all design specifications.Comment: Accepted by Astroparticle Physic
