Cell Phones Are Ringing, Will Educators Hear?

    Get PDF
Teachers often participate in professional development opportunities to remain on top of the technology used to teach their students. Staying on top of this technology assures that students will be able to compete in the world work force and maintain the technological standards comparable to the rest of the world. A technology that has increasingly integrated itself into the lives of students and often misunderstood and underused by educators is the cell phone

    Distal Limb Pressure Device

    Get PDF
Lymphedema is a medical condition associated with venous insufficiency that causes swelling in the distal limbs, generally starting at the ankles. Lymphedema affects roughly 4 million Americans today and can be caused by a number of factors, including injury, aging, diabetes, and pregnancy. The severity of lymphedema is classified into four stages, and the more severe the stage, the higher risk of experiencing additional side effects including infections, skin ulcers, and reduced locomotion capabilities in the afflicted limb. Depending on the severity of lymphedema, various treatment options are available, including exercise, elevation, and compression for lower stages and surgery or diuretics for more severe stages. Current compression methods directed towards alleviating the symptoms of lymphedema include compression stockings and inflatable trousers. While compression stockings allow the user to be mobile, they are difficult to put on and take off, and the constant pressure application can cause skin ulcers and intertrigo, or rashes. On the other hand, inflatable trousers provide sequential or alternating pressure, which reduces the risk of developing ulcers; however, they require immobilization of the user. Therefore, the scope of this project was to design and develop a wearable and mobile device that could supply sufficient sequential pressure to the leg. The team opted to use airbags as the medium to apply the required pressure

Concientious Cinema: Senegalese Cineastes as Preservers of Cultural Identity and Promoters of Social Change

    Get PDF
Senegalese cinema was born with a conscience. From its earliest days, Senegalese films have been marked by tendencies to preserve cultural identity and promote social change. Using background research, film screenings, discussions, and interviews, this study categories these trends into a movement of “Conscientious Cinema,” and identifies the development of both of these objectives. This study first traces the trend of cultural identity preservation from the films of the founding generation to their evolution in the projects of young filmmakers today, and similarly explores the development of the trend of social-change promotion from between these generations. In the analysis, I examine why these trends have developed and how they are important today. Finally, this study identifies the future potential of Conscientious Cinema and the ways in which the movement can reach this potential

Numerical Investigation of an Oxyacetylene Torch With Regards to an Ablative Material

    Get PDF
A computational fluid dynamic (CFD) software is used to model an oxyacetylene torch used as a screening facility for high temperature material testing. First, a published test-case is used to verify the CFD approach. The model that was produced falls within 5% of the Marra et al. [15] work in regards to heat flux and front face temperature, with a one step reaction mechanism that is computationally cheap. Then, the approach is used to model an existing experimental facility

Shifting Sensitilities: Some Consequences of Digital Technology

The digital age that we have entered is moving rapidly toward ubiquitous technology. Even toasters now have electronic circuits...so now we have entered a new phase of existence. What does this all mean for faith and religious practice - if anything? The first thing we have to recognize is that this is not merely another change in the long road of progress
