Reliability analysis of semi-automatic train door systems in service on today's rolling stock of the SNCB

    Get PDF
This article analyses the reliability of semi-automatic train door systems that are in use on today’s rolling stock of the SNCB. For the analysis several databases of the SNCB concerning both operation and maintenance were thoroughly screened. These databases are briefly explained and scaling factors are applied to compare the performance of different series of rolling stock relative to each other. Conclusions are made out of the available data

We experimentally and theoretically determine the plasmon dispersion in coaxial waveguides. We demonstrate strong optical confinement at energies below the surface plasmon resonance. Furthermore, we find that the reflection coefficients of the coax end facets can be strongly tuned by changing the coax dispersion and surrounding dielectric, which provides a new route to optical cavities with ultrasmall mode volumes

Surface plasmon polariton modes in a single-crystal Au nanoresonator fabricated using focused-ion-beam milling

We use focused-ion-beam milling of a single-crystal Au surface to fabricate a 590-nm-long linear ridge that acts as a surface plasmon nanoresonator. Cathodoluminescence imaging spectroscopy is then used to excite and image surface plasmons on the ridge. Principal component analysis reveals distinct plasmonic modes, which proves confinement of surface-plasmon oscillations to the ridge. Boundary-element-method calculations confirm that a linear ridge is able to support highly-localized surface-plasmon modes (mode diameter < 100 nm). The results demonstrate that focused-ion-beam milling can be used in rapid prototyping of nanoscale single-crystal plasmonic components.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
