Inventaire des mollusques d'eau douce de la Réunion. Conséquences sanitaires
L'absence de trématodoses majeures à La Réunion, situation paradoxale compte tenu de leur incidence dans les terres voisines de Madagascar et de Maurice et des liens commerciaux étroits qui ont jalonné l'histoire de ces îles justifiait d'établir le bilan des gastéropodes aquatiques vivant actuellement à La Réunion. Cent cinquante-deux stations ont ainsi été prospectées et 5 141 gastéropodes appartenant à 17 espèces récoltés. Leur écologie est évoquée. Quatre espèces pourraient être impliquées dans le cycle de trématodoses humaines et animales dont Limnaea mauritiana qui pullule dans tous les cours d'eau et Bulinus cernicus mis en évidence à Grand Etang et signalé pour la première fois dans l'île. Les mesures destinées à éviter l'implantation des bilharzioses, paramphistomoses et fascioloses humaines et animales dont le cycle passe par ces mollusques sont indiquée

Met deze leidraad worden voor de professionele beheerders bouwstenen aangereikt om goede beheerkeuzen te maken. De huidige versie van de Leidraad is in voorjaar 2008 door een afvaardiging van de Expertgroep Eikenprocessierups geactualiseerd op basis van nieuwe inzichten en praktijkervaringe
Observation of mutually enhanced collectivity in self-conjugate Sr
The lifetimes of the first 2 states in the neutron-deficient
Sr isotopes were measured using a unique combination of the
-ray line-shape method and two-step nucleon exchange reactions at
intermediate energies. The transition rates for the 2 states were
determined to be (E2;2) = 2220(270) efm for
Sr and 1800(250) efm for Sr, corresponding to large
deformation of = 0.45(3) for Sr and 0.40(3) for Sr. The
present data provide experimental evidence for mutually enhanced collectivity
that occurs at = = 38. The systematic behavior of the excitation
energies and (E2) values indicates a signature of shape coexistence in
Sr, characterizing Sr as one of most deformed nuclei with an

Future directions for the management of pain in osteoarthritis.
Osteoarthritis (OA) is the predominant form of arthritis worldwide, resulting in a high degree of functional impairment and reduced quality of life owing to chronic pain. To date, there are no treatments that are known to modify disease progression of OA in the long term. Current treatments are largely based on the modulation of pain, including NSAIDs, opiates and, more recently, centrally acting pharmacotherapies to avert pain. This review will focus on the rationale for new avenues in pain modulation, including inhibition with anti-NGF antibodies and centrally acting analgesics. The authors also consider the potential for structure modification in cartilage/bone using growth factors and stem cell therapies. The possible mismatch between structural change and pain perception will also be discussed, introducing recent techniques that may assist in improved patient phenotyping of pain subsets in OA. Such developments could help further stratify subgroups and treatments for people with OA in future
Observation of isotonic symmetry for enhanced quadrupole collectivity in neutron-rich 62,64,66Fe isotopes at N=40
The transition rates for the 2_{1}^{+} states in 62,64,66Fe were studied
using the Recoil Distance Doppler-Shift technique applied to projectile Coulomb
excitation reactions. The deduced E2 strengths illustrate the enhanced
collectivity of the neutron-rich Fe isotopes up to N=40. The results are
interpreted by the generalized concept of valence proton symmetry which
describes the evolution of nuclear structure around N=40 as governed by the
number of valence protons with respect to Z~30. The deformation suggested by
the experimental data is reproduced by state-of-the-art shell calculations with
a new effective interaction developed for the fpgd valence space.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure
Transition Rates between Mixed Symmetry States: First Measurement in 94Mo
The nucleus 94Mo was investigated using a powerful combination of
gamma-singles photon scattering experiments and gamma-gamma-coincidence studies
following the beta-decay of 94mTc. The data survey short-lived J^pi=1+,2+
states and include branching ratios, E2/M1 mixing ratios, lifetimes, and
transition strengths. The mixed-symmetry (MS) 1+ scissors mode and the 2+ MS
state are identified from M1 strengths. A gamma transition between MS states
was observed and its rate was measured. Nine M1 and E2 strengths involving MS
states agree with the O(6) limit of the interacting boson model-2 using the

Multi-particle effects in non-equilibrium electron tunnelling and field emission
We investigate energy resolved electric current from various correlated host
materials under out-of-equilibrium conditions. We find that, due to a combined
effect of electron-electron interactions, non-equilibrium and multi-particle
tunnelling, the energy resolved current is finite even above the Fermi edge of
the host material. In most cases, the current density possesses a singularity
at the Fermi level revealing novel manifestations of correlation effects in
electron tunnelling. By means of the Keldysh non-equilibrium technique, the
current density is calculated for one-dimensional interacting electron systems
and for two-dimensional systems, both in the pure limit and in the presence of
disorder. We then specialise to the field emission and provide a comprehensive
theoretical study of this effect in carbon nanotubes.Comment: 22 pages, 8 figures (eps files
Percutaneous vertebroplasty is not a risk factor for new osteoporotic compression fractures: results from VERTOS II
Background and purpose: Pv is increasingly used as treatment for osteoporotic vcfs. However, controversy exists as to whether pv increases the risk for new vcfs during follow-up. The purpose of our research was to assess the incidence of new vcfs in patients with acute vcfs randomized to pv and conservative therapy. Materials and methods: Vertos ii is a prospective multicenter randomized controlled trial comparing pv with conservative therapy in 202 patients. Incidence, distribution, and timing of new vcfs during follow-up were assessed from spine radiographs. In addition, further height loss during follow-up of treated vcfs was measured. Results: After a mean follow-up of 11.4 Months (Median, 12.0; Range, 1-24 months), 18 New vcfs occurred in 15 of 91 patients after pv and 30 new vcfs in 21 of 85 patients after conservative therapy. This difference was not significant (P = .44). There was no higher fracture risk for adjacent-versus-distant vertebrae. Mean time to new vcf was 16.2 Months after pv and 17.8 Months after conservative treatment (Logrank, p = .45). The baseline number of vcfs was the only risk factor for occurrence (Or, 1.43; 95% Ci, 1.05-1.95) And number (P = .01) Of new vcfs. After conservative therapy, further height loss of treated vertebrae occurred more frequently (35 Of 85 versus 11 of 91 patients, p < .001) And was more severe (P < .001) Than after pv. Conclusions: Incidence of new vcfs was not different after pv compared with conservative therapy after a mean of 11.4 Months' follow-up. The only risk factor for new vcfs was the number of vcfs at baseline. Pv contributed to preservation of stature by decreasing both the incidence and severity of further height loss in treated vertebrae
Lifetime determination of excited states in Cd-106
Two separate experiments using the Differential Decay Curve Method have been performed to extract mean lifetimes of excited states in 106 Cd. The inedium-spin states of interest were populated by the Mo-98(C-12, 4n) Cd-106 reaction performed at the Wright Nuclear Structure Lab., Yale University. From this experiment, two isomeric state mean lifetimes have been deduced. The low-lying states were populated by the Mo-96(C-13, 3n)Cd-106 reaction performed at the Institut fur Kernphysik, Universitat zu Koln. The mean lifetime of the I-pi = 2(1)(+) state was deduced, tentatively, as 16.4(9) ps. This value differs from the previously accepted literature value from Coulomb excitation of 10.43(9) ps
