Traveling waves in one-dimensional nonlinear models of strain-limiting viscoelasticity

    Get PDF
In this article we investigate traveling wave solutions of a nonlinear differential equation describing the behaviour of one-dimensional viscoelastic medium with implicit constitutive relations. We focus on a subclass of such models known as the strain-limiting models introduced by Rajagopal. To describe the response of viscoelastic solids we assume a nonlinear relationship among the linearized strain, the strain rate and the Cauchy stress. We then concentrate on traveling wave solutions that correspond to the heteroclinic connections between the two constant states. We establish conditions for the existence of such solutions, and find those solutions, explicitly, implicitly or numerically, for various forms of the nonlinear constitutive relation

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of three production systems on live weight gain (LWG) of white turkeys by repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) and profile analysis. A total of 81 turkey poults were assigned to intensive (7 male and 19 female), semi-intensive (9 male and 19 female) and extensive groups (11 male and 16 female) at one day old. The poults were wing-banded at day 1 after hatching and weighed individually each week through 16 weeks old. The birds were managed similarly through eight weeks old. After that time, the intensive group was fed concentrated feed indoors. The birds of the semi-intensive group had access to pasture for eight hours a day, and received 50% of the concentrated feed that was consumed by the intensive group. The birds in the extensive group were kept outdoors with shade and grazed on pasture, but did not receive concentrated feed. The bi-weekly LWG of the extensive, intensive and semi-intensive groups were 1191.4 g, 990.6 g and 872.1 g, respectively. Through the 16 weeks of the trial, the effects on LWG of production system, age, and interaction of age and production system were highly significant (P <0.01) in the repeated measures ANOVA. The profile analysis also showed highly significant (P <0.01) production system effects and interaction of production system and age on LWG. Scheffe’s test indicated that the intensive, semi-intensive, and extensive treatments differed (P <0.05)

Bu sonuçtan yola çıkılarak Mesleki Almanca derslerinde kelime öğretiminde alternatif alıştırmalarla daha başarılı olduğu söylenilebilir.oday, the use of alternative lesson models in addition to classical lesson models in foreign language lessons is a phenomenon that should be taken into consideration. The variety of methods in foreign language teaching can contribute to the acceleration and development of linguistic competence and the acquisition of skills. Although traditional lesson models are an accepted phenomenon in the past and today, with the use of alternative lesson models, foreign language lessons can be successfully shaped and implemented. The aim of this study is to transfer the professional terms and communication situations belonging to the field of tourism to the students studying in Tourism departments with the help of alternative exercises. In this study, the teaching of professional terms belonging to the field of tourism was examined in a theoretical and experimental context. In this study, experimental and control groups were formed, and the transfer of the relevant words and terms was carried out with traditional exercises in the control group, and with alternative exercises in the experimental group. A pretest and a post-test, which are words related to tourism field, were applied to the students. Statistical results showed that the experimental group was more successful in the posttest than the control group. Based on these results, it can be said that alternative exercises bring success in vocabulary learning

Deindustrialization in cities of the global south

    Get PDF
Recent research by economists has shown that deindustrialization is more severe in Sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America than it ever was in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Nevertheless, most research on deindustrialization is focused on the former centres of Fordist manufacturing in the industrial heartlands of the North Atlantic. In short, there is a mismatch between where deindustrialization is researched and where it is occurring, and the objective of this paper is to shift the geographical focus of research on deindustrialization to the Global South. Case studies from Argentina, India, Tanzania and Turkey demonstrate the variegated nature of deindustrialization beyond the North Atlantic. In the process, it is demonstrated that cities in the Global South can inform wider theoretical discussions on the impacts of deindustrialization at the urban scale

    No full text
The structure and structural interdependent of the cotton and textile industries were analyzed using an input-output model in the Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP) Region. GAP is the most comprehensive integrated regional development project ever carried out in Turkey. Data were obtained from surveys of 72 cotton farms and 103 textile companies. In the GAP Region, gross value added as a percentage of gross output was found to be 85 % for the cotton. 38 % for the readymade. 35% for the spinning 34 % for the weaving and 25 % for the ginning sectors. As an indicator of labour productivity, value added per work hours were also found by sector, in Turkish Lira to be 145.000 for ginning, 87.000 for weaving, 85,000 for spinning. 77,000 for ready-made and 20,000 for cotton in 1993. In the input-output framework, final demand, output multipliers of the sectors were: 1.7480 for the ginning. 1.6780 for the weaving. 1.6771 for the ready-made, 1.2728 for the spinning and 1.0171 for the cotton sectors. Employment multipliers were: 0.1912 for cotton, 0.1545 for ready-made. 0.1138 for spinning, 0.1124 for weaving. Income multiplers were: 0.8839 for the ginning. 0.8573 for the cotton. 0.6250 for the ready-made. 0.6014 for the weaving and 0.4840 for the spinning sectors. By the year 2010 which means total completion of GAP, 161.700 new jobs. 112.000 the in-cotton sector and the rest in the textile industry might be created. Total gross value added also might be 2.3 times higher than the base year 1993 in the cotton and textile industries in the region. In the future, substantial new investments which will generate production capacity are needed in the weaving and ready.made sectors of the textile industry, as is presently happening in the GAP Region
