4,4'-Dimethyl-2,2'-{[2,3,3a,4,5,6,7,7a-octa-hydro-1H-benzimidazole-1,3-di-yl]bis-(methyl-ene)}diphenol

The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C23H30N2O2, contains one half-mol-ecule, with a twofold axis splitting the mol-ecule in two identical halves. The structure of the racemic mixture has been reported previously [Rivera et al. (2009>) J. Chem. Crystallogr. 39, 827-830] but the enanti-omer reported here crystallized in the ortho-rhom-bic space group P21212 (Z = 2), whereas the racemate occurs in the triclinic space group P-1 (Z = 2). The observed mol-ecular conformation is stabilized by two intra-molecular O-H⋯N hydrogen bonds, which generate rings with graph-set motif S(6). In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked via non-classical C-H⋯O inter-actions, which stack the mol-ecules along the b axis

Contrasting Role of Octopamine in Appetitive and Aversive Learning in the Crab Chasmagnathus

BACKGROUND:Biogenic amines are implicated in reinforcing associative learning. Octopamine (OA) is considered the invertebrate counterpart of noradrenaline and several studies in insects converge on the idea that OA mediates the reward in appetitive conditioning. However, it is possible to assume that OA could have a different role in an aversive conditioning. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS:Here we pharmacologically studied the participation of OA in two learning processes in the crab Chasmagnathus granulatus, one appetitive and one aversive. It is shown that the aversive memory is impaired by an OA injection applied immediately or 30 minutes after the last training trial. By contrast, the appetitive memory is blocked by OA antagonists epinastine and mianserine, but enhanced by OA when injected together with the supply of a minimum amount of reinforcement. Finally, double-learning experiments in which crabs are given the aversive and the appetitive learning either successively or simultaneously allow us to study the interaction between both types of learning and analyze the presumed action of OA. We found that the appetitive training offered immediately, but not one hour, after an aversive training has an amnesic effect on the aversive memory, mimicking the effect and the kinetic of an OA injection. CONCLUSIONS/SIGNIFICANCE:Our results demonstrate that the role of OA is divergent in two memory processes of opposite signs: on the one hand it would mediate the reinforcement in appetitive learning, and on the other hand it has a deleterious effect over aversive memory consolidation

In this formulation, the transgression it is a pillar in the creation of meaning and iconographic representations against the elements of the official culture. Sensacionalismo en la información periodística sobre el hospital Carlos Haya de Málaga: un riesgo evitable = Sensationalism in reporting on the hospital Carlos Haya in Málaga: an avoidable risk

Resumen: Se realiza el análisis periodístico de tres noticias aparecidas en el diario La Opinión de Málaga entre los días 18 y 30 de enero de 2012, sobre supuestas deficiencias graves en la atención de los pacientes que acuden al servicio de urgencias del hospital Carlos Haya de Málaga. Tras analizar las fuentes, factores de noticiabilidad, agenda informativa, titulares, subtítulos y textos (incluyendo la entrevista a un alto cargo), se concluye que el medio citado ha dado un tratamiento informativo poco riguroso, sesgado, sensacionalista e incompleto. La alta carga emocional y la tensión, propias de cualquier servicio de urgencias, pueden convertirse en un terreno abonado en el que broten situaciones muy perjudiciales (para usuarios y profesionales) por informaciones de este tipo, contrarias a la responsabilidad social del Periodismo y a su papel crítico ante las instancias de poder, en este caso responsables de la gestión sanitaria. After analyzing the sources, factors of newsworthiness, news agenda, headlines, subtitles and texts (including the interview with a senior), concludes that the above-mentioned medium has given little rigorous information treatment, skewed, sensationalist and incomplete. The emotionally charged and the tension of any emergency service, can become a fertile field in which fresh very harmful situations (for users and professionals) by information of this kind, contrary to the social responsibility of journalism and its critical role before the bodies of power, in this case responsible for health management.Keywords: Sensationalism, Journalistic analysis, Information sources, Carlos Haya Hospital, Critical Care, Emergency, Patient’s Ombudsma

Gestión de la divulgación científica en la Facultad de Ciencias, Tecnologías y Artes de la Universidad Nacional de Pilar

The article presents result of an approach on features that characterize the management developed around scientific dissemination in the Faculty of Sciences, Technologies and Arts of the National University of Pilar, Paraguay. It takes the years 2020 and 2021 as the period of analysis, coinciding with periods of pandemic by Covid19. To do this, he used the interpretivist paradigm, with a qualitative approach. For the production of data, the interview technique was mainly used, supported by a guide with questions elaborated after the review of previous literature. The number of informants consulted was determined by the saturation of responses to the main questions raised, totaling seven participants with the role of researcher and four managers. The results offer findings around perceptions about the pandemic context and scientific communication, opinions about the importance of scientific communication, and above all aspects about planning, resources, channels and communication mechanisms, as well as practices on the evaluation of the management of scientific dissemination in the institution.El artículo presenta resultados de una aproximación sobre rasgos que caracterizan la gestión desarrollada entorno a la divulgación científica en la Facultad de Ciencias, Tecnologías y Artes de la Universidad Nacional de Pilar, Paraguay. Toma como período de análisis los años 2020 y 2021, coincidentes con periodos de pandemia por el Covid19. Para ello, se valió del paradigma interpretativista, con enfoque cualitativo. Para la producción de datos se recurrió principalmente a la técnica de la entrevista, apoyado por una guía con preguntas elaboradas tras la revisión de literatura previa. El número de informantes consultados fue determinado por la saturación de respuestas a las principales preguntas planteadas, totalizando siete participantes con el rol de investigador y cuatro gestores. Los resultados ofrecen hallazgos en torno a percepciones sobre el contexto pandémico y la comunicación científica, opiniones sobre la importancia de la comunicación científica, y por sobre todo aspectos sobre la planificación, recursos, canales y mecanismos de comunicación, así como prácticas sobre la evaluación de la gestión de la divulgación científica en la institución
