A MPC Strategy for the Optimal Management of Microgrids Based on Evolutionary Optimization
In this paper, a novel model predictive control strategy, with a 24-h prediction horizon, is
proposed to reduce the operational cost of microgrids. To overcome the complexity of the optimization
problems arising from the operation of the microgrid at each step, an adaptive evolutionary strategy
with a satisfactory trade-off between exploration and exploitation capabilities was added to the
model predictive control. The proposed strategy was evaluated using a representative microgrid that
includes a wind turbine, a photovoltaic plant, a microturbine, a diesel engine, and an energy storage
system. The achieved results demonstrate the validity of the proposed approach, outperforming
a global scheduling planner-based on a genetic algorithm by 14.2% in terms of operational cost.
In addition, the proposed approach also better manages the use of the energy storage system.

años y costo beneficio B/C 1.13.This research had a general objective in order to decrease the operational costs of
the “Vendtech S.A.C” company at its headquarters in Trujillo through better
improvement of the logistics area management. Problems which were obtained
after taking the staff survey and these greatest impact problems were
differentiated through Pareto: Absence of a demand forecasting, absence of a
request for spare parts method, absence of a supplied warehouse of spare parts
and finished product, absence of a spare parts classification method, absence of a
warehouse management software, absence of a software production of shipping

guides and an input and output formats. These allowed us to avoid the breakage
warehouse, requests made from the staff were received, most of them were about
the spare parts to be deliver as soon as possible to the staff, and thanks to the
layout of the warehouse and its optimum distribution of the spare parts on the
shelves, besides this, the entry and exit of warehouse materials and cool
equipment were also managed in a more effective way. The achieved results
were: economic viability with an NPV of S/8,163.08, RR of 63.95 %, IRP 3,67
years and the B/C 1.13 cost-benefit
Aedes albopictus (Skuse) in the Huetar Atlantic Region of Costa Rica
Objective: To determine the characteristics of larval habitats of Aedes albopictus (Diptera: Culicidae) and the associated mosquito-fauna in the locality of “La Primavera”. This community was the first location in the county of Pococí where Ae. albopictus was evidenced, and it seems representative of the ecology of this vector in the region.
Methods: A larval survey was performed in 20 of 28 households located in an area of 10 000 m2. In these houses the internal and external environments were evaluated in order to identify potential mosquito breeding sites. The entomologic material collected was fixed in 70% ethanol and processed for microscopic analysis.
Results:15houseswerepositiveformosquitobreedingsites. In these houses, 48 water filled containers were recorded, 31,2 % were positive for larvae or pupae of mosquitoes. Ae. albopictus was found in five breeding sites and in coexistence with other species such as Culex coronator, Haemagogus regalis, and Limatus durhamii.Culex quinquefasciatus, Culex corniger, Culex interrogator, Trichoprosopon compressum, and Aedes motoecopus were also observed. Aedes aegypti was not detected in the sampled area.
Discussion: This preliminary data shows that Ae. albopcitus exhibits great affinity for sharing its larval habitat with other culicid species in rural or semi-rural environments, where the localization of breeding sites is mainly outdoors. The absence of Ae. aegypti could be related to some degree of competitive exclusion generated by Ae. albopictus. Determination of the potential role of Ae. albopictus in the transmission of dengue in the region is necessary.Comisión de Regionalización Interuniversitaria - Región Huetar Atlántica/[]/CRI-RHA/Costa RicaUCR::Vicerrectoría de Docencia::Salud::Facultad de MicrobiologíaUCR::Vicerrectoría de Investigación::Unidades de Investigación::Ciencias de la Salud::Centro de Investigación en Enfermedades Tropicales (CIET
Controlling Robot Motion by Blinking Eyes: an Experience on Users Training
This article aims to describe a system designed to control the movement of mobile robots by blinking eyes. It is based on the use
of a Brain Computer Interface and a particular control architecture. The paper addresses the key aspects that allow simplifying usersrobot
interaction and proposes a control strategy that facilitates a fast learning of robot handling. In this sense, the main advantage of
the approach is the short period of time required for users’ training. The article details a methodology aimed to evaluate this feature,
presents experimental results that confirm this fact and also discusses about the influence of interacting with a real or a simulated
robot. Particularly, it analyses if a previous training with the virtual robot helps to improve the interaction with the real robot or vice
versa
This study examined the importance of the hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) process, which allows us to obtain molecules with the necessary calorific potential to be useful as biofuels, an example of which is the phenol molecule, predominant in the mixtures remaining from cellulose liquefaction processes. The process was standardized using NiMoW trimetallic catalysts supported on Al2O3 which is based on two routes; the direct hydrogenation of the aromatic ring, followed by the cleavage of the Csp3-O bond and the direct cleavage by deoxygenation of the Csp2-O bond of the molecule, both routes are carried out simultaneously generating as reaction products: molecules such as: benzene, cyclohexane, cyclohexene, methylcyclopentane, cilohexanone and cyclohexanol. This type of catalysts present conversions of up to 92% of oxygenated molecules such as phenol, showing desirable textural properties (surface area, distribution and pore size), which allows a greater interaction in the reaction mixture, favoring the conversion, providing a promising alternative for purification processes of oxygenated molecules provided by nature for the optimization of obtaining biofuels.
Effect of salinity on DNA methylation and antioxidant phenolic compounds of wild watercress (Rorippa nasturtium aquaticum)
Epigenetic changes are involved in plant responses to stress. Cytosine methylation is one of the most important epigenetic changes, regulating gene expression. In this paper, the MSAP (methylation-sensitive amplification polymorphism) method was used to find out how the watercress (Rorippa nasturtium aquaticum) genome changed in response to 0, 60, 80, and 100 mM NaCl and how that affected phenylalanine ammonium lyase (PAL) activity, phenolic content, and antioxidant capacity. The results showed an inverse correlation between methylation levels and PAL activity and the contents of total phenolics and flavonoids, indicating salt stress-induced reprogramming of the methylation pattern of watercress, which has a negative effect on the synthesis of phenolics. The results revealed a significant decrease in phenolic contents and antioxidant activity under low and moderate salinity compared to control and an increase under strong salinity compared to moderate salinity. The findings of this study contribute to our understanding of the reprogramming of DNA methylation under salinity and its effect on watercress phenolic metabolism
