    Get PDF
For counselor professional and counselor education, supervision is an important process, in which more experienced professional helps and guides less experienced professional. To provide an effective and beneficial supervision, various therapy, development, or process based approaches and models have been developed. In addition, different eclectic models integrating more than one model have been developed. In this paper, as a supervision model, multi combined Adlerian supervision model is proposed. The model includes Adlerian supervision and its integration with discrimination model (DM; Bernard, 1979). DM is one of the most known counseling supervision model and Adlerian therapy is an important theory to understand human nature in both counseling and supervision settings. Since supervision is one of the important concepts in counseling, the current integrated model important is useful for counselors and counselor educators for their supervision practice. Theoretical tenets of the pieces of the integration first are explained by reviewing the literature. Then, the current model and its process are explained. Limitations and strengths are discussed with implications for counselor supervisors

The literature has documented that negative life events such as divorce, financial issues, or relationship changes lead to various psychological concerns including depression, anxiety, or suicidal behaviors. However, several variables affect how people cope with negative life events. Among those variables, optimism, hope, and gratitude have been emphasized in the literature, and their relationships with several psychological outcomes have been studied. However, little is known about the effects of these variables on negative life events and their relationship to psychological distress and life satisfaction. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between negative life events and psychological distress and life satisfaction. This study also examined the moderating effects of optimism, hope, and gratitude on negative life events\u27 prediction of psychological distress and life satisfaction. This investigation tested the theoretical model that negative life events predicted psychological distress and life satisfaction in undergraduate students (N = 738). In addition, this investigation tested three theoretical interaction models that optimism, hope and gratitude moderated the relationships between negative life events and psychological distress and life satisfaction. The results revealed that negative life events predicted psychological distress and life satisfaction. Regarding moderating effects, optimism hope, and gratitude moderated negative life events\u27 prediction of psychological distress, but not life satisfaction. These results are consistent with the existing literature on negative life events. The results and limitations are discussed along with suggestions for future research. Implications are presented for college counselors and counselor educators

Life satisfaction has received a vast amount of attention in positive psychology. The importance of life satisfaction in education has also been emphasized for students’ comprehensive development. In this regard, it is crucial to understand factors related to a student’s life satisfaction for their mental, social, and academic development. Positive psychology highly focuses on hope, and hope has been found related to desirable outcomes. However, it is still not known the role of hope in life satisfaction for Turkish middle school students. The main goal of this study was to examine hope’s prediction of life satisfaction in middle school students. This study also aimed to investigate differences in students’ life satisfaction based on their gender and grade levels. Data were collected from 339 middle school students attended three public middle school located in the west of Turkey.  The findings of the study revealed that hope significantly predicted family (R2 = .21), school (R2 = .24), friend (R2 = .24), self (R2 = .40), living environment (R2 = .13), and total (R2 = .43) life satisfaction scores. The results also showed that girls had higher scores on life satisfaction than boys in school, friend, living environment, and total life satisfaction scores whereas no difference was observed in family and self-satisfaction scores. Regarding grade level, significant differences were found in family, school, self, and total life satisfactions scores. According to post-hoc comparisons, 8th graders reported lower level of life satisfaction. No differences were found in friend and living environment satisfaction scores based on gender. The results with implication for future research and practice are discussed

Rumination can cause to negative mood by blocking a person occupying entertaining actions. Therefore, rumination can be a potential threat to the quality of life and mental health. However, forgiveness and gratitude are defined as positive personality characteristics and can serve to combat rumination. Thus, this study with 417 undergraduate students aimed to examine the effects of gratitude and forgiveness on rumination. This study also investigated the mediating role of forgiveness on the association between gratitude and rumination. In addition, the purpose of this study included exploring the mediating roles of forgiveness of self and situation on the relationship between forgiveness of others and rumination. Hierarchical regression analyses were conducted to examine the effects of gratitude and forgiveness on rumination. In addition, bootstrapping methods were employed to test the mediational effects. Results showed that forgiveness fully mediated the relationship between gratitude and rumination. Specifically, participants with higher levels of gratitude reported higher levels of forgiveness, which in turn lower levels of rumination. In addition, it was found that forgiveness of others and forgiveness of self fully mediated the association between forgiveness of others and rumination. The results along with implications were discussed.WOS:0005646514000062-s2.0-8509002040

International students, specifically non-native speakers of English, constitute a growing population of the graduate programs in western-based universities like UK, US, and Australia. Despite their document challenges, these students also demonstrate resilience that when appropriately channeled, could promote their success in graduate school.  The purpose of the study was to explore the experiences of non-native speakers of English in education doctoral programs in US.  A qualitative research, specifically a phenomenological approach was used to explore the experiences of non-native speakers of English in US doctoral programs in education. Participants were six doctoral students on F1 visa or equivalent. Semi-structured interviews were conducted, transcribed, and coded. Themes that came out of the codes included knowledge, new experience, and support.   Students used both past knowledge from their home countries to connect with new knowledge. They appreciated new experiences provided by professors and the support from both colleagues and mentors. Implications are discussed
