During this session, I will start reflecting upon migration movements on the world, framing statistics and defining concepts. I will go through ties who bind migrants with receiving countries, presenting new terminology to emergent realities such as Immigrants and euromigrants; visitors from EU countries and circulants from third countries. I will characterize the differentiation of inequalities that divides our world in North and South, though a migration perspective as well as on how migrants have been gradually and currently seen as criminals. In fact, and after a perspective how agreements in Europe allowed the creation of the space of Security, Liberty and Freedom, a consequence of the Schengen Treaty and its subsequent updates, we will focus on how migrants have been characterized in host countries as criminals and how they have been victims of the crimminalization of irregularity, mainly reflected on a crimmigration analysis. I will go then through a perspective on migrants as victims of crimes, taking a deep analysis on human trafficking victims who are or have been involved in migration processes. I will then go through the analysis of the Diretive 2012/29/UE and try to pick up the rights of victims of human trafficking who are already transposed to the Portuguese (and other countries’) legislations, finding lacks and presenting solutions to “law in books” and “law in action” in this field of supporting victims of crimes in Europe, taking from point of departure an European project.Universidad de Málaga. Social Network Measures for Nosduocentered Networks, their Predictive Power on Performance

Our purpose in this article is to define a network structure which is based on two egos instead of the egocentered (one ego) or the complete network (n egos). We describe the characteristics and properties for this kind of network which we call “nosduocentered network”, comparing it with complete and egocentered networks. The key point for this kind of network is that relations exist between the two main egos and all alters, but relations among others are not observed. After that, we use new social network measures adapted to the nosduocentered network, some of which are based on measures for complete networks such as degree, betweenness, closeness centrality or density, while some others are tailor-made for nosduocentered networks. We specify three regression models to predict research performance of PhD students based on these social network measures for different networks such as advice, collaboration, emotional support and trust. Data used are from Slovenian PhD students and their supervisors. The results show that performance for PhD students depends mostly of the emotional network, because it is significant for all three models. Trust and collaboration networks are significant for two models and advice is not significant for any model. As regards network measures, classic and tailor-made measures are about equally good. Measures related to the total intensity of contacts (e.g., density, degree centralization and size) seem to work best to predict performance.nosduocentered network; academic achievement; performance; network measures

Magister Psychologiae - MPsychIn the context of recent attacks that occurred against foreign nationals (migrants) in South Africa, this study sought to explore attitudes toward migrants and immigration among a sample of students at the University of the Western Cape. Previous studies in South Africa and elsewhere have suggested that in most countries, nationals tend to hold negative attitudes toward migrants and express protectionist attitudes toward migration policies. Research around students' attitudes toward migrants and immigration has shown similar trends. The present study employed a sample survey design to investigate: a) Students' attitudes toward African migrants, b) Students' attitudes toward migration into South Africa and c) Degree of contact that students have with African Migrants. A convenience sample of 183 undergraduate psychology students was used. Students‟ age ranged between 18 and 38 years of age (x = 20 years). Data was collected using a questionnaire comprising of 27 questions related to attitudes towards migrants and immigration as well as a section on contact with migrants. The results show that students showed exclusionary attitudes in terms of immigration, limited contact with migrants and negative attitudes toward African migrants. However, attitudes toward migrant‟s rights were positive. The implications of these findings are discussed

Corporate social responsibility and financial performance in GIIPS countries: a multifactor approach

Comunicação em CongressoThe present study investigates the relationship between corporate social responsibility and financial performance from a sample of all listed companies in European peripheric countries (Greece, Italy Ireland, Portugal and Spain) often referred as “GIIPS countries”. The portfolio formation considers the companies included in the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) into a timeframe of more than one decade which comprises the sovereign debt crisis. The empirical results show that investing in companies that engage in these practices obtain a better performance when compared with conventional portfolio. The study also applies a multifactor model and found that the returns of the GRI portfolio can be explained by others risk factors when compared with German stock market, which have not been spared by the Eurozone debt crisis, but less affected.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Currently, there is a feeling of mistrust, a toughening of policies and an intolerance towards non-national offenders that is similar to the reaction to irregularity. This perception of the immigrant as the ‘other’, the outsider, the potential enemy whose presence requires a preventive reinforcement of security measures, motivated us to reflect on the possible emergence of the Criminal Law of the Crimmigrant
