Phacoemulsification of the crystalline lens and implantation of an intraocular lens for the correction of moderate and high myopia: Four-year follow-up
Purpose: To assess the safety of lens extraction and intraocular lens (IOL) implantation in patients with high myopia treated for initial lens opacity and/or refractive indications. Setting: Instituto de Microcirugfa Ocular de Barcelona, Barcelona, Spain. Methods: This retrospective nonrandomized case series study comprised 44 eyes of 30 consecutive myopic patients who had surgery because of initial lens opacity and/or refractive indications during a 2-year period. In each case, phacoemulsification was performed using an ultrasonic technique and an IOL was implanted in the capsular bag. The patients were seen preoperatively to evaluate retinal pathology. They also had a complete ophthalmologic evaluation that included detailed indirect ophthalmoscopy. All patients were followed at regular intervals. The main outcome measures were preoperative and postoperative-spherical equivalent (SE), the incidence of posterior capsule opacification (PCO) and the need for capsulotomy, and the incidence of retinal complications. Results: In all eyes, the surgery was uneventful. The mean patient age at surgery was 42.83 years; the mean preoperative SE was -15.77 diopters (D) and the mean postoperative SE, -1.05 D. No eye required preoperative peripheral retinal photocoagulation. Twenty-five eyes (56.8%) had PCO and had a neodymium:YAG laser capsulotomy. One eye had a retinal tear 14 months after surgery and was treated with focal photocoagulation. The mean endothelial cell loss was 2.1% during the first postoperative year. Two eyes had an immediate postoperative intraocular pressure (IOP)rise, 1 with an inflammatory membrane and the other with corneal edema; both resolved with topical treatment. One eye with elevated IOP and a bad response to medical treatment had argon laser trabeculoplasty. No eye had a retinal detachment during the follow-up. Conclusion: With a thorough preoperative ophthalmologic evaluation and uneventful surgery, patients who have phacoemulsification and IOL implantation for the correction of myopia have a satisfactory chance of obtaining good visual results with few complications. ©2003 ASCRS and ESCRS
Secondary Endothelial Keratoplasty—A Narrative Review of the Outcomes of Secondary Corneal Endothelial Allografts
Background: We review the literature on the efficacy and safety outcomes of secondary Descemet stripping endothelial keratoplasty (DSEK) and Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK).
Methods: Literature search of English-written publications up to September 27, 2020 in PubMed database, using the terms "endothelial keratoplasty" in combination with keywords "secondary" or "repeat." In addition, we manually searched the references of the primary articles.
Results: Twenty-seven studies (n = 651 eyes) were retained and reviewed, including 10 studies on repeat DSEK, 8 studies on repeat DMEK, 6 studies of DMEK following DSEK, and 3 studies of DSEK after failed DMEK. All studies reported significant improvement in visual acuity after secondary endothelial keratoplasty (EK). Twelve studies compared visual outcomes between primary and secondary EK, reporting conflicting findings. Sixteen studies reported endothelial cell loss rates after secondary EK, and only 1 study reported significantly increased endothelial cell loss rates compared with primary EK. Allograft rejection episodes occurred in 1.8% of eyes (range, 0%-50%). Six studies compared complication rates between primary and secondary EK eyes, and only 1 study found a higher median number of complications. However, 2 studies reported higher regraft failure rates compared with primary EK eyes.
Conclusions: Secondary EK is surgically feasible and renders significant visual improvement after failed primary EK, although it is not clear whether visual outcomes and allograft survival are comparable with primary EK, raising the question of whether secondary EK eyes are "low risk" as primary EK eyes. Further larger, prospective studies are encouraged to obtain additional quality data on secondary corneal endothelial allotransplantation.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Phenolic compound profile by UPLC-MS/MS and encapsulation with chitosan of Spondias mombin L. fruit peel extract from Cerrado hotspot-Brazil
8openInternationalInternational coauthor/editorTaperebá (Spondias mombin L.) is a native species of the Brazilian Cerrado that has shown important characteristics such as a significant phenolic compound content and biological activities. The present study aimed to characterize the phenolic compound profile and antioxidant activity in taperebá peel extract, as well as microencapsulating the extract with chitosan and evaluating the stability of the microparticles. The evaluation of the profile of phenolic compounds was carried out by UPLC-MS/MS. The in vitro antioxidant activity was evaluated by DPPH and ABTS methods. The microparticles were obtained by spray drying and were submitted to a stability study under different temperatures. In general, the results showed a significant content of polyphenols and antioxidant activity. The results of UPLC-MS/MS demonstrated a significant content of polyphenols in taperebá peel, highlighting the high content of ellagic acid and quercetin compounds. There was significant retention of phenolic compounds when microencapsulated, demonstrating high retention at all evaluated temperatures. Sedentary behavior : a key component in the interaction between an integrated lifestyle approach and cardiac autonomic function in active young men
This study aimed to verify the association between autonomic cardiac function (CAF) and
the integration of caloric expenditure by physical activity (PA) intensity, sedentary behavior (SB), and
sleep quality (PSQI) in active young men. Thirty-five subjects were included, and caloric expenditure
in moderate-to-vigorous and light-intensity PA, SB, and PSQI were assessed using questionnaires.
Heart rate variability (HRV) was recorded for short periods of time in the supine and orthostatic
positions. Multiple linear regression was realized unadjusted and adjusted for covariables, such as
age, body mass index, and fat mass. No adjusted analysis indicated that, in the supine position,
there were negative associations between the SB and the TP, HF, and NorHF indices, and positive
associations between SB and NorLF and LF/HF. In the orthostatic position, an interaction between SB
and NorLF was found. Significance of proportion with the TP, HF, and LF/HF indices was confirmed.
When adjusted, for the supine position, negative interactions were documented between SB and the
TP as well as the HF indices, and between PSQI and the LF/HF index, with interference under the HF
and LF/HF indices. Finally, our findings indicate that the proposed approach interacts with CAF, and
SB is significantly related to CAF in young active men
Three-Dimensional Integrable Models and Associated Tangle Invariants
In this paper we show that the Boltzmann weights of the three-dimensional
Baxter-Bazhanov model give representations of the braid group, if some suitable
spectral limits are taken. In the trigonometric case we classify all possible
spectral limits which produce braid group representations. Furthermore we prove
that for some of them we get cyclotomic invariants of links and for others we

Densidades de plantio e cultivares de soja convencionais para a região Sul de MG, safra 2013/14.
Objetivou-se identificar a melhor população de plantas (100.000 a 400.000 plantas ha-1) para 3 cultivares de soja convencional (BRSMG 752S; BRSMG 772S; BRSMG 810C), visando semeadura para região Sul de Minas Gerais. A cv BRSMG 772S apresentou máxima produtividade quando conduzida com 284.000 plantas ha-1, podendo ser cultivada entre 200.000 a 400.000 plantas ha-1. A variação na população de plantas não alterou o rendimento e a maioria dos caracteres agronômicos para as cultivares BRSMG 752S e BRSMG 810C, podendo as mesmas serem utilizadas com ampla faixa de população
