Immune Priming Triggers Cell Wall Remodeling and Increased Resistance to Halo Blight Disease in Common Bean
[EN] The cell wall (CW) is a dynamic structure extensively remodeled during plant growth
and under stress conditions, however little is known about its roles during the immune system
priming, especially in crops. In order to shed light on such a process, we used the Phaseolus vulgaris-
Pseudomonas syringae (Pph) pathosystem and the immune priming capacity of 2,6-dichloroisonicotinic
acid (INA). In the first instance we confirmed that INA-pretreated plants were more resistant to
Pph, which was in line with the enhanced production of H2O2 of the primed plants after elicitation
with the peptide flg22. Thereafter, CWs from plants subjected to the different treatments (non- or
Pph-inoculated on non- or INA-pretreated plants) were isolated to study their composition and
properties. As a result, the Pph inoculation modified the bean CW to some extent, mostly the pectic
component, but the CW was as vulnerable to enzymatic hydrolysis as in the case of non-inoculated
plants. By contrast, the INA priming triggered a pronounced CW remodeling, both on the cellulosic
and non-cellulosic polysaccharides, and CW proteins, which resulted in a CW that was more resistant
to enzymatic hydrolysis. In conclusion, the increased bean resistance against Pph produced by INA
priming can be explained, at least partially, by a drastic CW remodeling.SIThis research was funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness, grant number RTC-2016-5816-2
Draft genome sequence of the type strain of the sulfur-oxidizing acidophile, Acidithiobacillus albertensis (DSM 14366)
Abstract Acidithiobacillus albertensis is an extremely acidophilic, mesophilic, obligatory autotrophic sulfur-oxidizer, with potential importance in the bioleaching of sulfidic metal ores, first described in the 1980s. Here we present the draft genome sequence of Acidithiobacillus albertensis DSM 14366T, thereby both filling a long-standing gap in the genomics of the acidithiobacilli, and providing further insight into the understanding of the biology of the non iron-oxidizing members of the Acidithiobacillus genus. The assembled genome is 3,1 Mb, and contains 47 tRNAs, tmRNA gene and 2 rRNA operons, along with 3149 protein-coding predicted genes. The Whole Genome Shotgun project was deposited in DDBJ/EMBL/GenBank under the accession MOAD00000000
______________________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTNowadays, we are facing more and more dynamic and plural cities, in the midst of the arising of new languages and their superposition in the amplified field of contemporary art. By a new artistic approach, we live the challenge of searching for new places to the work of art concerned to the urban landscape, although these places do not constitute fixed and stratified territories for art. The search for a place to the urban landscape is also the search for the sense of contemporary landscape. It becomes urgent the need to recreate a place to contemporary landscape. In order to do that, we think that the plural existence of urban spaces and their scales are, nowadays, an ideal field to a new esthetic experience. This search will occur, necessarily, by a new perception about the urban landscape, in artistic fields little explored, and by an approach to the work in art which is aware of the historical, socio-political, cultural and urbane tension in the city and its public spaces. The contemporary landscape is the map of the multiplicity of the urban landscape, and we propose to work in the construction of poetics that looks at this urban reality with a critical and transforming eye
Insulin is secreted upon glucose stimulation by both gastrointestinal enteroendocrine K-cells and L-cells engineered with the preproinsulin gene
Transgenic mice carrying the human insulin gene driven by the K-cell glucose-dependent insulinotropic peptide (GIP) promoter secrete insulin and display normal glucose tolerance tests after their pancreatic β-cells have been destroyed. Establishing the existence of other types of cells that can process and secrete transgenic insulin would help the development of new gene therapy strategies to treat patients with diabetes mellitus. It is noted that in addition to GIP secreting K-cells, the glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) generating L-cells share/ many similarities to pancreatic β-cells, including the peptidases required for proinsulin processing, hormone storage and a glucosestimulated hormone secretion mechanism. In the present study, we demonstrate that not only K-cells, but also L-cells engineered with the human preproinsulin gene are able to synthesize, store and, upon glucose stimulation, release mature insulin. When the mouse enteroendocrine STC-1 cell line was transfected with t
