EFFECT OF DIFFERENT STORAGE CONDITIONS ON NUTRITIONAL AND QUALITY PARAMETERS OF 'SWEETHEART' CHERRY.
Abstract
The sweet cherry ‘Sweetheart’, although having a short shelf life, is highly
appreciated by consumers due to its organoleptic characteristics. Different storage
methods were tested to study the maintenance of quality during a period of 27 days: 1)
cold (air at 1°C and 95% relative humidity) (CC), 2) cold and polypropylene film bags
(1°C and 95% relative humidity) (MA) and 3) cold and controlled atmosphere (1°C,
95% RH, 10% CO2 and 8% O2) (CA). Quality parameters tested included external
colour (L*, a*, b*), total soluble solids (TSS), and titratable acidity (TA). To evaluate
nutritional quality anthocyanins, total antioxidant activity, and total phenolics were
measured. Results allow us to say that phenolic compounds were relatively stable and
similar during storage in CC and MA. Cherries stored under CA conditions presented
lowest concentrations of phenolic compounds. Phenolic compounds, total anthocyanins
and antioxidant activity were inversely correlated with values of colour
coordinates. Considering all the evaluations done during this work it is unquestionable
that fruits stored in controlled atmosphere conditions had significantly different
quality
High-temperature Hydrogen Chloride Releases from Mixtures of Sodium Chloride with Sulfates: Implications for the Chlorine-Mineralogy as Determined by the Sample Analysis at Mars Instrument on the Curiosity Rover in Gale Crater, Mars
Hydrogen chloride releases above 500 C occurred in several samples analyzed by the Sample Analysis at Mars (SAM) evolved gas analyzer on the Curiosity rover in Gale crater. These have been attributed to reactions between chlorides (original or from oxychlorine decomposition) and water. Some of these HCl releases that peaked below the melting temperature of common chlorides did not co-evolve with oxygen or water, and were not explained by laboratory analog work (Figure 1). Therefore, these HCl releases were not caused by MgCl2 or soley due to reactions between water and melting chlorides. The goal of this work was to explain the HCl releases that did not co-evolve with oxygen or water and occurred below the melting point of common chlorides, which have not been explained by previous laboratory analog work. PACCE: Perl Algorithm to Compute Continuum and Equivalent Widths
We present Perl Algorithm to Compute continuum and Equivalent Widths (pacce).
We describe the methods used in the computations and the requirements for its
usage. We compare the measurements made with pacce and "manual" ones made using
iraf splot task. These tests show that for SSP models the equivalent widths
strengths are very similar (differences <0.2A) for both measurements. In real
stellar spectra, the correlation between both values is still very good, but
with differences of up to 0.5A. pacce is also able to determine mean continuum
and continuum at line center values, which are helpful in stellar population
studies. In addition, it is also able to compute the uncertainties in the
equivalent widths using photon statistics. The code is made available for the

Worldwide the consumption of fruit and vegetables is increasing due to the dietary guidelines
recommended by nutritionist. Because of their high content on phenols, vitamins, mineral
and antioxidants, berry fruits are consumed not only in fresh forms but also as processed and
derivative products such as juices, yogurts, jellies and dried fruits. As a high consumed red
fruit, sweet cherry has been the focus on some studies, mainly regarding bioactive
compounds content. “Sweetheart” cherries from São Julião region (Alentejo, Portugal) from
two different production campaigns were kept in different storage conditions in order to
evaluate both the environmental and storage effect on some physical-chemical properties and
phenolics. Cold conditions - Cold (1 ºC, 95% RH) and modified atmosphere - MA (1 ºC,
95% RH with micro-perforated bags of Pplus®, Sidlaw Packaging, Bristol, UK) were tested.
In order to establish the appropriate storage conditions, individual phenolic acids and
physical-chemical properties were analysed during two consecutive years. Results show a
general decrease on phenolic compounds content between cherries from both years. It is also
observed that MA conditions do not affect significantly both phenolics and physical-chemical
parameters when compared with Cold conditions. Additionally, it is observed similar
behaviour on Cold and MA sweet cherries regarding its pH, total soluble solids content
(TSS), titratable acidity (TA) and colour and individual phenols during storage time.
Concluding, these results show, as expected, changes between cultivars which may be
correlated with the environmental conditions on different years.

Confinement, the gluon propagator and the interquark potential for heavy mesons
The interquark static potential for heavy mesons described by a massive One
Gluon Exchange interaction obtained from the propagator of the truncated
Dyson-Schwinger equations does not reproduced the expected Cornell potential. I
show that no formulation based on a finite propagator will lead to confinement
of quenched QCD. I propose a mechanism based on a singular nonperturbative
coupling constant which has the virtue of giving rise to a finite gluon
propagator and (almost) linear confinement. The mechanism can be slightly
modified to produce the screened potentials of unquenched QCD.Comment: 12 pages and 7 figure
Geometric Integration of Hamiltonian Systems Perturbed by Rayleigh Damping
Explicit and semi-explicit geometric integration schemes for dissipative
perturbations of Hamiltonian systems are analyzed. The dissipation is
characterized by a small parameter , and the schemes under study
preserve the symplectic structure in the case . In the case
the energy dissipation rate is shown to be asymptotically
correct by backward error analysis. Theoretical results on monotone decrease of
the modified Hamiltonian function for small enough step sizes are given.
Further, an analysis proving near conservation of relative equilibria for small
enough step sizes is conducted.
Numerical examples, verifying the analyses, are given for a planar pendulum
and an elastic 3--D pendulum. The results are superior in comparison with a
conventional explicit Runge-Kutta method of the same order

The year 2021 is marked by several articles aimed at better risk stratification of osteoporosis to define the groups of patients at very high risk of fractures or at imminent risk of fractures. This stratification determines who should benefit from a first line bone anabolic treatment. A review of the current state of osteoporosis was therefore essential; it shows that Switzerland is lagging. In terms of prevention of bone fragility, dairy products are probably a leading strategy, especially in the elderly. The practical management of denosumab discontinuation is finally better understood. Finally, with the arrival of a new treatment, Burosumab, we are experiencing a therapeutic revolution for rare hypophosphatemic diseases

Differences of corruption types in selected Western and central-eastern health systems during the COVID-19 pandemic: a rapid review
YesTo identify, describe, and classify the cases of health corruption present in selected Western [the Netherlands and the United Kingdom (UK)] and Central-Eastern European (Poland and Slovakia) countries during the COVID-19 pandemic.
A rapid review of the literature was conducted, evaluating data from 11 March 2020 to 15 April 2021. Information sources included MEDLINE via WoS, IBSS via ProQuest, Scopus, and gray literature.
Thirteen cases were identified across the four countries. The primary type of health corruption in Western European countries was procurement corruption, while misuse of (high) level positions was the most prevalent in Central-Eastern European countries. Actors from central governments were most involved in cases. The rule of law and anti-corruption watchdogs reported most cases in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, while the media reported cases in Poland and Slovakia.
The differences in types of corruption in WE and CEE countries emphasize the need to contextualize the approach to tackle corruption. Thus, further research in preventing and tackling corruption is a vital and necessary undertaking despite the inherent of conducting health corruption research
Modern nuclear force predictions for the neutron-deuteron scattering lengths
The nd doublet and quartet scattering lengths have been calculated based on
the modern NN and 3N interactions. We also studied the effect of the
electromagnetic interactions in the form introduced in AV18. Switching them off
for the various nuclear force models leads to shifts of up to +0.04 fm for
doublet scattering length, which is significant for present day standards. The
electromagnetic effects have also a noticeable effect on quartet scattering
length, which otherwise is extremely stable under the exchange of the nuclear
forces. For the current nuclear force models there is a strong scatter of the
3H binding energy and the doublet scattering length values around an averaged
straight line (Phillips line). This allows to use doublet scattering length and
the 3H binding energy as independent low energy observables.Comment: 16 pages, 1 table, 4 ps figure
