Nonparametric estimation betas in the Market Model

In this study an alternative nonparametric estimator to the Fama and MacBeth approach for the CAPM estimation is proposed. Betas and risk premiums are estimated simultaneously in order to increase the explanatory power of the proxy for betas. A data driven method is proposed for selecting the smoothness degrees, which are directly related to the subsample sizes. Based on this relation, the traditional estimator is obtained as a particular case. Stock assessments can be problematic because of uncertainties associated with the data or because of simplified assumptions made when modeling biological processes (Rosenberg and Restrepo, 1995). For example, the common assumption in stock assessments that stocks are homogeneous and discrete (i.e., there is no migration between the stocks) is not necessarily true (Kell et al., 2004a, 2004b)

Religion and Innovation in Europe: Implications for Product Life-Cycle Management

This paper analyzes the relationship between religion and innovation in Europe. To the best knowledge of the authors, no paper has been published about the association of religion with innovation and innovative products and services, at an individual level, for all the countries that belong to the European Union. This is the main goal of our paper. The results show that the orientation of innovativeness depends on religion. This study contains a segmentation of the main religions in Europe, taking into account their innovative profile. Connecting the characteristics of the religious segments found and the innovations life-cycle concept, companies have a tool to manage different innovations’ evolutive stages taking into consideration the religion of their customers. The European policy-makers, still dominated by a traditional innovation approach, gain a demand-side perspective to improve citizen’s innovativeness awareness and acceptance. Finally, religiosity does not seem to have a very strong relationship with attitudes towards innovation once we control for religious affiliation

Tecnología digital: Reflexiones pedagógicas y socioculturales

El mundo se encuentra en un cambio de época, entre la “era del industrialismo” y la “era de la información”, entendiendo ésta última como la era de la alta tecnología y de su conocimiento práctico. En esta transición corresponde a las personas vivir un momento histórico en donde tres visiones de mundo (la contextual, la tecnológica o mecánica y la económica) se encuentran en conflicto. En los próximos años uno de estos tres paradigmas prevalecerá sobre los otros dos, con lo cual se hace necesario que se revise cuidadosamente bajo cuál visión de mundo se está incorporando las tecnologías digitales en la educación, estableciendo la diferencia entre ellas y las tecnologías de la comunicación y la información así como la informática educativa. Desde los años 80, y como producto de la revolución tecnológica, en Costa Rica se hacen esfuerzos consistentes y sistemáticos por introducir la tecnología digital en los procesos educativos, siendo la teoría construccionista del Dr. Seymour Papert de gran influencia en este proceso. The world is experimenting an edge change between the “industrial edge” to the “information edge”, that means the edge of high technology and its practical knowledge. In this transition people are living an historical moment in witch three paradigms (the contextual, the technocratic o mechanic and the economic) are in conflict. Predicting Betas: Two new methods

Betas play a central role in modern finance. The estimation of betas from historical data and their extrapolation into the future is of considerable practical interest. We propose two new methods: the first is a direct generalization of the method in Blume (1975), and the second is based on Procrustes rotation in phase space. Concerning RICG I, 194 A and its metric form

This paper focuses on the philological analysis of RICG I, 194 A, a late-dating Christian funerary inscription from Augusta Treverorum. The critical edition offers new ideas that contribute to solving the important difficulties of reading and exegesis of the text. Ultimately, it will be demonstrated, on the one hand, that at least one section of it is metrical, something that had not been proven until now. On the other hand, the possible connection between this epigraph and the other known cases of inhumatio ad sanctos from Trier will be studiedEste artículo se centra en el análisis filológico de RICG I, 194 A, inscripción funeraria cristiana de datación tardía procedente de Augusta Treverorum. Ramismo y retórica comparada. (Con unas notas sobre Boscán y Garcilaso en "La arcadia retórica")

Es un lugar común decir que Garcilaso de la Vega fue considerado un poeta "clásico", incluso en su propio tiempo, como lo muestran durante varios siglos los comentarios a sus escritos. En este artículo se muestra la presencia de Garcilaso, y también de Juan Boscán, no en un libro de comentarios, sino más bien en un tratado poético: "The Arcadian Rhetorike" (1588), de Abraham Fraunce. El trabajo de Fraunce se estudia en el contexto en que se produjo, es decir, en el movimiento Ramus, de Cambridge. El artículo analiza qué aspectos de Garcilaso y de la poesía de Boscán eran de interés para Fraunce. Por último, el "Rhetorike" se estudia como una especie de "retórica comparativa", en el sentido de que toma sus ejemplos no sólo de Homero o Virgilio, sino, sobre todo, de los poetas vernáculos de Inglaterra, Italia, Francia y España.It is a commonplace to say that Garcilaso de la Vega was considered a “classical” poet even in his own time, as shown by the commentaries on his work written over several centuries. This article shows the presence of Garcilaso, and also of Juan Boscán, not in a book of commentaries, but rather in a poetical treatise, Abraham Fraunce's “The Arcadian Rhetorike” (1588). Fraunce's work is studied in the context in which it was produced, namely the ramist movement at Cambridge. The article then analyses which aspects of Garcilaso's and Boscán's poetry were of interest to Fraunce. Finally, the “Rhetorike” is studied as a kind of “comparative rhetoric”, in the sense that it draws its examples not only from Homer or Virgil, but especially from the vernacular poets of England, Italy, France and Spain.notPeerReviewe

Cláusulas abusivas en los contratos de préstamo hipotecario desde el punto de vista financiero

El objeto de estudio es la incidencia de las cláusulas abusivas en los contratos de préstamo con garantía hipotecaria. Las cláusulas abusivas son aquellas que negociadas individualmente y en contra de las exigencias de buena fe, provocan un quebrantamiento en los derechos y obligaciones de los tomadores de contratos. En el caso de tener presencia en un contrato, estas cláusulas serán declaradas nulas y no producirán efecto, salvo que ocasione un incumplimiento de este y por tanto será declarado nulo en su totalidad. En los contratos de préstamo hipotecario, no existe una lista cerrada, hay una gran variedad, siendo algunas declaradas o no, dependiendo de la forma en la que sean redactadas o que no sobrepasen unos límites. De todas ellas se analizan tres tipos de carácter financiero: redondeo al alza del tipo de interés, suelo y techo e intereses moratorios.Grado en Administración y Dirección de Empresa

Parten de diferentes presupuestos pero hay cierto paralelismo entre la defensa del rigor histórico y el modo de contar las cosas según los estudiosos de los discursos.
