The Impact of Situation and Outlook Information in Corn and Soybean Futures Markets: Evidence from WASDE Reports

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of situation and outlook information from World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) in corn and soybean futures markets over the period 1985 to 2006. Results indicate that WASDE reports containing National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) crop production estimates and other domestic and international situation and outlook information have the largest impact; causing return variance on report sessions to be 7.38 times greater than normal return variance in corn futures and 6.87 times greater than normal return variance in soybean futures. WASDE reports limited to international situation information and domestic and international outlook information have a smaller impact. The results show that the impact of WASDE reports has increased over time.corn, market impact, outlook, situation, soybeans, WASDE, Agribusiness, Crop Production/Industries, Financial Economics, Q100, Q110, Q130,

Integral Equation Analysis of Plane Wave Scattering by Coplanar Graphene-Strip Gratings in the THz Range

The plane wave scattering and absorption by finite and infinite gratings of free-space standing infinitely long graphene strips are studied in the THz range. A novel numerical approach, based on graphene surface impedance, hyper-singular integral equations, and the Nystrom method, is proposed. This technique guarantees fast convergence and controlled accuracy of computations. Reflectance, transmittance, and absorbance are carefully studied as a function of graphene and grating parameters, revealing the presence of surface plasmon resonances. Specifically, larger graphene relaxation times increases the number of resonances in the THz range, leading to higher wave transmittance due to the reduced losses; on the other hand an increase of graphene chemical potential up-shifts the frequency of plasmon resonances. It is also shown that a relatively low number of graphene strips (>10) are able to reproduce Rayleigh anomalies. These features make graphene strips good candidates for many applications, including tunable absorbers and frequency selective surfaces.Comment: 11 pages, 26 figure

Al-Li Alloys – The Analysis of Material Behaviour during Industrial Hot Forging

    Get PDF
Al-Li alloys are a promising class of aerospace materials that combine light weight with high strength, comparable to those of steels. In the case of critical components, it is well known that providing the required reliability is impossible without tailoring the output microstructure of the material. This, in turn, requires a clear understanding of the logic behind microstructure formation depending on the total processing history (especially temperature and strain-rate history). However, uniaxial isothermal laboratory tests provide very limited information about the material behaviour. Real forging processes, especially involving complex geometries, sometimes develop quite complicated temperature-strain-rate paths that vary across the deformed part. A proper analysis of the microstructural transformations taking place in the material under these conditions is therefore very important. In this paper, the correlation between the loading history and microstructural transformations was analysed for AA2099 alloy using the hot forging of a disk-shaped component at selected forging temperatures and strain rates. The obtained results were compared to industrial processing maps based on uniaxial tests

© 2023Purpose: Present case reports that have generated new treatment protocols improving treatment of patient outcomes with jaw deformities and airway compromises requiring counterclockwise rotation (CCWR) of the maxillo-mandibular complex (MMC) with or without a requirement for temporomandibular joint (TMJ) total joint prostheses (TJP). Presented are studies that verify the efficacy of these procedures. Methods: Initial case presentations were identified in reference to CCWR of the MMC without and with TMJ total joint prostheses in cases of co-existing end-stage TMJ pathology. A non-systematic literature search was conducted to identify studies pertinent to subject matter. Results: Two case reports are presented that have significantly affected our specialty: 1) CCWR of the MMC and effect on airway, and 2) TMJ TJP with concomitant maxillary osteotomies for CCWR of the MMC. Forty papers were identified meeting the filtered criteria. Twenty-nine papers were excluded as case reports, philosophy, technique, or small case series. Eleven studies met the inclusion criteria and are summarized according to the data included. These studies validate the efficacy and stability of CCWR of the MMC in the presence of healthy joints as well as patients with end-stage TMJ pathology using custom TMJ TJP in conjunction with orthognathic surgery. Conclusions: Patients with healthy TMJs can be treated with CCWR of the MMC with predictable outcomes and stability. Patients with end-stage TMJ pathology can benefit from TMJ TJP and orthognathic surgery for CCWR of the MMC with good stability, improved function, decreased pain, improved airway, and quality of life. © 202

Personalized Genetic Diagnosis of Congenital Heart Defects in Newborns

    Get PDF
Congenital heart disease is a group of pathologies characterized by structural malformations of the heart or great vessels. These alterations occur during the embryonic period and are the most frequently observed severe congenital malformations, the main cause of neonatal mortality due to malformation, and the second most frequent congenital malformations overall after malformations of the central nervous system. The severity of different types of congenital heart disease varies depending on the combination of associated anatomical defects. The causes of these malformations are usually considered multifactorial, but genetic variants play a key role. Currently, use of high-throughput genetic technologies allows identification of pathogenic aneuploidies, deletions/duplications of large segments, as well as rare single nucleotide variants. The high incidence of congenital heart disease as well as the associated complications makes it necessary to establish a diagnosis as early as possible to adopt the most appropriate measures in a personalized approach. In this review, we provide an exhaustive update of the genetic bases of the most frequent congenital heart diseases as well as other syndromes associated with congenital heart defects, and how genetic data can be translated to clinical practice in a personalized approach. This work was supported by Obra Social "La Caixa Foundation" (LCF/PR/GN16/50290001, and LCF/PR/GN19/50320002). Viticulture is important in Argentina's economy, especially in the province of Mendoza, which is responsible for more than 75% of the crop cultivated area. In this work, we evaluated the incidence of Grapevine leafroll-associated viruses (GLRaV) -1, -2, and -3 in Vitis vinifera clones of cultivars Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Sauvignon Blanc, planted in different zones of Mendoza. The selected clones were previously reported as putatively infected by GLRaV-2. All selected samples were analyzed by DAS-ELISA for GLRaV-1,-2 and -3. GLRaV-2 was the only virus identified in all the analyzed clones. The overall infection rates were 0.6%, 18.8% and 1.2 % for GLRaV-1, 2 and 3 respectively. For the clone Cabernet Sauvignon 337, the infection rate was very high (68.3%).A viticultura é importante para a economia da Argentina, especialmente na província de Mendoza, que abrange mais de 75% da área cultivada do país.
