    Damage and vulnerability analysis of URM churches after the Canterbury earthquake sequence 2010-2011

    The Canterbury earthquake sequence, in 2010-2011, has highlighted once again the vulnerability ofmonumental structures, in particular churches, and the importance of reducing their risk from an economic, cultural and social point of view. Within this context, detailed analysis is reported of the earthquake-induced damage to a stock of 48 unreinforcedmasonry churches located in the Canterbury Region and the vulnerability analysis of a wider stock of 293 churches located all around New Zealand. New tools were developed forthe assessmentof New Zealand churches. The computation of a new damage grade isproposed, assessed as a proper combination of the damage level to each macroelement, as a step towards the definition of a New Zealand specific damage survey form. Several vulnerability indicators were selected, which are related to easily detectable structural details and geometric dimensions. The collection of such data for the larger set of churches (293) constitutes a useful basis for evaluating the potential impact of future seismic event

    La coevaluación-autoevaluación como instrumentos para valorar la competencia en el trabajo de equipo

    En este trabajo se expone cómo se evaluó la competencia en el trabajo de equipo a través de un instrumento de coevaluación/autoevaluación elaborado por el profesorado implicado en una propuesta coordinada para el 3º curso del Grado de Maestro en Educación Infantil. Los principales resultados indican que la mayoría de los estudiantes se identificaron en un nivel de competencia en el que colaboran activamente en el equipo, contribuyendo en su consolidación y desarrollo, facilitando la comunicación e integración de los miembros del equipo. No obstante, no tuvieron una visión global y continuada en la consecución de los niveles de competencia. Por otro lado, las valoraciones de los alumnos hacia sus compañeros fueron significativamente inferiores a las que hicieron de sí mismos

    En esta comunicación presentamos una propuesta de trabajo conjunto en la docencia de las cuatro asignaturas de las didácticas específicas del tercer curso del Grado de Maestro de Educación Infantil en la Universidad de Cádiz. El diseño se fundamenta en el trabajo en equipo y, en consonancia, incorpora el aprendizaje cooperativo como estrategia y contenido del proceso formativo y como elemento clave para promover, al mismo tiempo, el desarrollo profesional del equipo de formadores y el aprendizaje profesional de los alumnos. El programa formativo se desarrolla desde un diseño común para las cuatro asignaturas, favoreciendo una visión integradora de los diferentes ámbitos del conocimiento que giran en torno al diseño de una intervención didáctica integral para el aula de infantil.     Order-Based Representation in Random Networks of Cortical Neurons

    The wide range of time scales involved in neural excitability and synaptic transmission might lead to ongoing change in the temporal structure of responses to recurring stimulus presentations on a trial-to-trial basis. This is probably the most severe biophysical constraint on putative time-based primitives of stimulus representation in neuronal networks. Here we show that in spontaneously developing large-scale random networks of cortical neurons in vitro the order in which neurons are recruited following each stimulus is a naturally emerging representation primitive that is invariant to significant temporal changes in spike times. With a relatively small number of randomly sampled neurons, the information about stimulus position is fully retrievable from the recruitment order. The effective connectivity that makes order-based representation invariant to time warping is characterized by the existence of stations through which activity is required to pass in order to propagate further into the network. This study uncovers a simple invariant in a noisy biological network in vitro; its applicability under in vivo constraints remains to be seen

    The Bright γ-ray Flare of 3C 279 in 2015 June: AGILE Detection and Multifrequency Follow-up Observations

We report the AGILE detection and the results of the multifrequency follow-up observations of a bright γ-ray flare of the blazar 3C 279 in 2015 June. We use AGILE and Fermi gamma-ray data, together with Swift X-ray andoptical-ultraviolet data, and ground-based GASP-WEBT optical observations, including polarization information, to study the source variability and the overall spectral energy distribution during the γ-ray flare. The γ-ray flaring data, compared with as yet unpublished simultaneous optical data that will allow constraints on the big blue bump disk luminosity, show very high Compton dominance values of ∼100, with the ratio of γ-ray to optical emission rising by a factor of three in a few hours. The multiwavelength behavior of the source during the flare challenges one-zone leptonic theoretical models. The new observations during the 2015 June flare are also compared with already published data and nonsimultaneous historical 3C 279 archival data

    The following authors were omitted from the original version of this Data Descriptor: Markus Reichstein and Nicolas Vuichard. Both contributed to the code development and N. Vuichard contributed to the processing of the ERA-Interim data downscaling. Furthermore, the contribution of the co-author Frank Tiedemann was re-evaluated relative to the colleague Corinna Rebmann, both working at the same sites, and based on this re-evaluation a substitution in the co-author list is implemented (with Rebmann replacing Tiedemann). Finally, two affiliations were listed incorrectly and are corrected here (entries 190 and 193). The author list and affiliations have been amended to address these omissions in both the HTML and PDF versions

    Global maps of soil temperature

    Research in global change ecology relies heavily on global climatic grids derived from estimates of air temperature in open areas at around 2 m above the ground. These climatic grids do not reflect conditions below vegetation canopies and near the ground surface, where critical ecosystem functions occur and most terrestrial species reside. Here, we provide global maps of soil temperature and bioclimatic variables at a 1-km2 resolution for 0\u20135 and 5\u201315 cm soil depth. These maps were created by calculating the difference (i.e. offset) between in situ soil temperature measurements, based on time series from over 1200 1-km2 pixels (summarized from 8519 unique temperature sensors) across all the world's major terrestrial biomes, and coarse-grained air temperature estimates from ERA5-Land (an atmospheric reanalysis by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts). We show that mean annual soil temperature differs markedly from the corresponding gridded air temperature, by up to 10\ub0C (mean = 3.0 \ub1 2.1\ub0C), with substantial variation across biomes and seasons. Over the year, soils in cold and/or dry biomes are substantially warmer (+3.6 \ub1 2.3\ub0C) than gridded air temperature, whereas soils in warm and humid environments are on average slightly cooler ( 120.7 \ub1 2.3\ub0C). The observed substantial and biome-specific offsets emphasize that the projected impacts of climate and climate change on near-surface biodiversity and ecosystem functioning are inaccurately assessed when air rather than soil temperature is used, especially in cold environments. The global soil-related bioclimatic variables provided here are an important step forward for any application in ecology and related disciplines. Nevertheless, we highlight the need to fill remaining geographic gaps by collecting more in situ measurements of microclimate conditions to further enhance the spatiotemporal resolution of global soil temperature products for ecological applications

    The FLUXNET2015 dataset provides ecosystem-scale data on CO2, water, and energy exchange between the biosphere and the atmosphere, and other meteorological and biological measurements, from 212 sites around the globe (over 1500 site-years, up to and including year 2014). These sites, independently managed and operated, voluntarily contributed their data to create global datasets. Data were quality controlled and processed using uniform methods, to improve consistency and intercomparability across sites. The dataset is already being used in a number of applications, including ecophysiology studies, remote sensing studies, and development of ecosystem and Earth system models. FLUXNET2015 includes derived-data products, such as gap-filled time series, ecosystem respiration and photosynthetic uptake estimates, estimation of uncertainties, and metadata about the measurements, presented for the first time in this paper. In addition, 206 of these sites are for the first time distributed under a Creative Commons (CC-BY 4.0) license. This paper details this enhanced dataset and the processing methods, now made available as open-source codes, making the dataset more accessible, transparent, and reproducible
