Objective: While becoming a teenage parent brings about significant emotional and financial challenges, there are cases in which, in the midst of these negative statistics and results, some of the outcomes are positive through the trajectory of the adolescent’s life. There are women who have been able to overcome the disadvantages of early parenthood and emerged stronger and more capable as a result of the personal growth they experienced. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the promotive factors that facilitated educational attainment in the form of college degrees for Black and Latina women who were teenage mothers. This study aimed to understand the lived experiences of women who were once teen mothers, yet were able to overcome their circumstances and pursue higher levels of education. The ways that they were able to effectively balance parenting responsibilities in the midst of pursuing academic goals were examined. Additionally, the challenges and obstacles associated with attaining a college degree while being a teenage parent were explored. Methods: A content analysis approach was used to analyze the data. The data was elicited through the use of a flexible format, consisting of open-ended questions and themes. The interviews were semi-structured, face to face and 45 to 60 minutes in duration. Interviews were recorded and transcribed.Of the 15 women who participated in this study, nine identified as Black and six identified as Latina. Resiliency theory was used as the theoretical framework to help understand the promotive factors, those assets and resources, that facilitated educational attainment in the form of college degrees. Results: The data illustrated common themes that provided insight and an understanding of the lived experiences of the participants as teenage mothers in pursuit of educational achievement. The interviews elicited accounts of their experiences on how they were able to attain academic success in the form of undergraduate and graduate degrees. Analysis of the data highlighted three major themes that illustrated how the participants of this study were able to attain college degrees after a teenage birth. Promotive Factors: Assets and Resources, Balancing Parenting Responsibilities and the Academic Pursuit and Challenges and Obstacles While Being a Teenage Mother and Going to School were the three major themes that emerged from the data. Conclusion: The findings of this research study demonstrate that educational attainment for teenage mothers is possible with the appropriate assets and resources in place. The findings of this research study provide a glimpse into the experiences of teenage mothers and the difficulties that they face in reaching academic heights. The findings provide information for social work professionals and implications for social work practice

In this project, a documentation phase is carried out so as to find out the positioning of leadership in a consultancy company. Once this positioning is analyzed, hypotheses are established and they can be contrasted. With the results, conclusions will be made where future actions will be explained so as to obtain the successful leader the company desires. The process carried out in this project is done in different parts. First of all, a bibliographic revision has been made so as to obtain all the information necessary to accomplish this project. When all the information is gathered, an inquiry has been made, as a measuring instrument, to the company workers. With this tool we can see which is the best leadership definition so as to analyze the leadership situation in the consultancy company. Having all this done, a conclusion is made where the best behavior is exposed

The Changing Situation of University in the Digital Age

Extensive and profound political, economic, social and technological changes have taken place over the last forty years, mediated by neoconservative movements and the apparently unstoppable development of digital technology. At the same time, however, fundamental issues such as asymmetric power relations, inequality, poverty and exclusion have not only remained unchanged but are becoming more pronounced, producing, in some respects, movements and trends of reactionary change. From this perspective, in this article we begin by discussing the meaning of changes in the university field, based on contributions from different authors interested in the subject. We continue to analyze the problem considering the effects of the transformations produced by digital technologies on the lives and professional experience of university teachers and researchers. The evidence provided by this research project allows us to situate the impact of the unprecedented proliferation of information and the use of digital resources on the notion of knowledge and on teaching and learning methods, as well as to envisage the challenges to face by university. The text concludes considering some of the current university challenges and perspectives, based on various international studies and proposals. Our conclusions invite the reader to necessarily question the sense and the role of digital technology, not only in the seemingly inevitable transformation of university, but also in that of society.

Design and characterization of a CXCR4-retargeted and sTRAILarmed oncolytic HSV-1 to attack Glioblastoma stem-like cells (GSCs)

Virotherapy is one of the techniques that has been highlighted as a promising new therapeutic approach against cancer. Oncolytic Herpes simplex virus (oHSV) has been shown to have potent oncolytic effects against tumour cells and tumour microenvironment. Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most aggressive primary brain tumour in adults, and patients have a poor prognosis mainly due to recurrences. It has been shown that GBM cells can escape the tumour mass and invade healthy parenchyma. This migration is mediated by a CXCL12/CXCR4 pathway. These CXCR4+ cells share characteristics with stem cells and are considered as GBM stem-like cells (GSC) partly responsible of the recurrences. They appear therefore, as a target for oncolytic virus therapy. We have created a retargeted and armed oHSV. The glycoprotein D has been modified by inserting a nanobody specific to human CXCR4 to selectively target GSCs, and the virus has been armed with a soluble form of TRAIL to induce the extrinsic apoptosis pathway under the control of nestin promoter. Infection of U87MG or U87MG CXCR4+ with the retargeted oHSV showed a viral replication only in cells over-expressing CXCR4, indicating an efficient retargeting. The analysis of the arming in U87MG CXCR4+ infected cells showed more apoptosis with the sTRAIL-armed virus. Further evaluation on human patient-derived glioblastoma cells cultured as tumourospheres was done, showing a correlation between CXCR4 expression and viral infection. Finally, an in vivo orthotopic xenograft model with U87MG CXCR4+ cells demonstrates the ability of this retargeted and armed virus to significantly reduce the tumour volume and increase survival. In the future, improving the arming strategy and the validation of the retargeting safety by the creation of a nanobody that recognise human and murine CXCR4 will be addressed

Today more than ever, educational institutions need educational leaders who are able to promote profound, substantive and sustainable change. This paper is based on the efforts and results of the first stage of a European project implemented in universities and primary and secondary schools in Spain, Finland and the Czech Republic. The project seeks to explore the changes (and its educational effects) that have occurred in the last decade regarding digital competencies, especially in relation to the emergence of a culture of collaboration that connects youth learning, technology and a Do-it-Yourself (DIY) ethos. To achieve the project's objective, we followed a methodology based on the principles of collaborative action research (CAR). We have analysed the curricula and study plans of the participating institutions in order to explore how and where the project could be applied. We conducted a series of focus groups with teachers, students and parents to discuss notions of DIY learning among the educational communities. Based on these discussions, we began to analyse how each context envisions DIY learning and how it relates to the notion of virtual space. We finished the first stage with the professional development of the teachers, which was aimed at shaping the DIYLabs implementation plan

The structural properties of the XFe 3N (X=Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu and Zn) cubic ternary iron based nitrides as well as the preferential occupation site of X in the structure were studied using Full Potential Linearized Augmented Plane Wave method, within the Density Functional Theory formalism, Wien2k code, the exchange-correlation potential described with the Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof expression, based in the Local Spin Density Approximation and Generalized Gradient Approximation. According the calculations, the Sc, Co, Ni, Cu and Zn, atoms preferred the corner sites of the cubes, while Ti, V, Cr and Mn occupy the centre of the faces of the equilibrium structures. The equilibrium structure lattice parameters have an oscillatory behaviour with the atomic number of X, with decreasing amplitude as the atomic number of X increases. This trend do not correlated with the atomic radii of X.Fil: Gil Rebaza, Arles Víctor. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas.
