The method models the individual components of a drive system, forms the appropriate system interface coordinates and, calculates the system dynamic response at particular frequencies.     A method is presented for obtaining the mass, stiffness, and damping parameters of a linear mathematical model, having fewer degrees of freedom than the structure it represents, directly from dynamic response measurements on the actual helicopter without a priori knowledge of the physical characteristics of the fuselage. The only input information required in the formulation is the approximate natural frequency of each mode and mobility data measured proximate to these frequencies with sinusoidal force excitation applied at only one point on the vehicle. The practicality and numerical soundness of the theoretical development was demonstrated through a computer simulation of an experimental program

    A hot bubble at the centre of M81

    Context. Messier 81 has the nearest active nucleus with broad Hα\alpha emission. A detailed study of this galaxy's centre is important for understanding the innermost structure of the AGN phenomenon. Aims. Our goal is to seek previously undetected structures using additional techniques to reanalyse a data cube obtained with the GMOS-IFU installed on the Gemini North telescope (Schnorr M\"uller et al. 2011). Method. We analysed the data cube using techniques of noise reduction, spatial deconvolution, starlight subtraction, PCA tomography, and comparison with HST images. Results. We identified a hot bubble with T >> 43500 K that is associated with strong emission of [N II]λ\lambda5755\AA\ and a high [O I]λ\lambda6300/Hα\alpha ratio; the bubble displays a bluish continuum, surrounded by a thin shell of Hα\alpha + [N II] emission. We also reinterpret the outflow found by Schnorr M\"uller et al. (2011) showing that the blueshifted cone nearly coincides with the radio jet, as expected. Conclusions. We interpret the hot bubble as having been caused by post starburst events that left one or more clusters of young stars, similar to the ones found at the centre of the Milky Way, such as the Arches and the IRS 16 clusters. Shocked structures from combined young stellar winds or supernova remnants are probably the cause of this hot gas and the low ionization emission.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in A&

    The paroxysmal disorder gene PRRT2 downregulates NaV channels and neuronal excitability in human neurons

    Proline-Rich Transmembrane Protein 2 (PRRT2) has been identified as the single causative gene for a group of paroxysmal syndromes, including benign familial infantile seizures, paroxysmal kinesigenic dyskinesia and migraine. Most of the mutations of this gene lead to a premature stop codon, generating an unstable form of mRNA or a truncated protein that is degraded, pointing out the loss of the PRRT2 function as pathogenic mechanism of action. In this thesis, we have used different approaches to investigate the pathophysiological function of PRRT2. An important role for PRRT2 in the neurotransmitter release machinery, brain development and synapse formation has been uncovered by a previous work performed in our laboratory by acute silencing of PRRT2 expression. Here, we analyzed the phenotype of primary hippocampal neurons obtained from mouse PRRT2 knockout (KO) embryos. Analysis of synaptic function in primary neurons obtained from PRRT2-KO showed a largely similar, albeit attenuated, synaptic phenotype with respect to acute PRRT2 silencing characterized by weakened spontaneous/evoked synaptic transmission and increased facilitation at excitatory synapses. These effects were accompanied by a strengthened inhibitory transmission that, however, displayed faster synaptic depression. At the network level, these synaptic phenotypes, resulted in a state of increased spontaneous and evoked neurotransmitter release with increased excitability of excitatory neurons. To better dissect the physiological role of PRRT2, we characterized the phenotypes of neurons differentiated from Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPSCs) from patients homozygous for the PRRT2 c.649dupC mutation. Hence, we observed an increased Na+ current and firing activity in iPSCs rescued with the re-expression of the human wild-type form of PRRT2. By use of heterologous expression system, we demonstrate that PRRT2 interacts with NaV1.2/NaV1.6, but not with NaV1.1 channels, modulating their membrane exposure and decreasing their conductances. In brief, our findings highlighted that PRRT2 mutations might be a negative modulator of NaV1.2/NaV1.6 channels and point out the critical role of this protein in the regulation of the neuronal network functionality

    Temporal and Topological: Two Ways of Living Israel/Palestine

    Elia Suleiman and Amos Gitai are two Israeli filmmakers, Palestinian and Jewish respectively. Gitai’s first film, House (1980), was censored by Israeli Television—the producers of the film—due to its sympathetic portrayal of Palestinians. Elia Suleiman’s debut film, Chronicle of a Disappearance (1996), was criticized at the Carthage Film Festival in Tunisia for a sequence showing an Israeli flag and Suleiman himself was accused of being a Zionist collaborator. By comparing the ways in which these two films deal with the political and social implications of the Israel-Palestine conflict, this article highlights two distinct methods of relating to facts on the ground: the topological and the temporal. While Gitai, the architect-turned-film maker, focuses on the former, building his film around a house inhabited by the Arab workers who are renovating it, Suleiman develops his film along a temporal axis marked by the chapters of his chronicle. This article considers the history of Israeli Jews and Palestinians through the lenses of time and space and claims that the contemporary obsession of the former with space and the latter with time threatens the permanence of both peoples on the land
