Outpatient Commitment. Some Reflections on Ideology, Practice and Implications for Research

    Get PDF
Over the recent years, increased attention has been paid to non-compliance by mentally disordered patients living in the community with outpatient treatment. To deal with this problem many countries are now revising relevant legislation, to introduce a broader base for involuntary treatment in the community. This paper focuses both on the problems concerning the ideology and implementation of involuntary outpatient treatment, and on some of the research problems related to the evaluation of both the efficacy and effectiveness of outpatient commitment

; Reading comprehension is the act of understanding information from a presented text. It is one of difficulties found in learning. It caused by monotonous method conducted by teacher and in turn, students have less motivation on learning reading comprehension. This research aims for how the Team Quiz active learning method can improve reading comprehension in Japanese. The quasi-experiment method with “one group before-after (pretest and posttest)” design is conducted in this research, by taking XI language students from 2015/2016 academic year of SMA Negeri 1 Parongpong as sample. Test and questionnaire is instrument used in this research. According to data analysis with statistical calculation using t count, noting that t count > t table, therefore Ho is rejected and Hk is accepted. To conclude, Team Quiz active learning method is effective in improving reading comprehension in Japanese. Moreover, according to data analysis conducted in questionnaire, the Team Quiz active learning method gains positive responses from students

A year of pandemic for European particle radiotherapy:A survey on behalf of EPTN working group

OBJECTIVES: To provide an overview of the impact of the pandemic on the clinical activity and take a snapshot of the contingent challenges that European particle therapy centers are called to face, we surveyed the members of the European Particle Therapy Network (EPTN). MATERIAL AND METHODS: A 52-question survey was conducted from 4th April 2021 to 30th July 2021 using the Google Forms platform. Three dedicated sections analysed the clinical context of each participating institution, the staff management, and the clinical changes in the oncological workflow. RESULTS: Out of the 23 contacted European hubs of particle radiotherapy, a total of 9 (39%) responded to the survey. The number of in-person first evaluations and follow-up visits decreased, but telemedicine was implemented. Multidisciplinary tumour board discussions continued during the outbreak using web-based solutions. A delay in cancer diagnosis and oncological staging leading to an increment in more advanced diseases at first presentation was generally observed. Even if the total number of treatments (photons and particles) in the responding institutions showed a trend of decrease, there was or a stable situation or slight increase in particle treatments. The clinical treatment choices followed the national and international scientific recommendations and were patient/disease-oriented. Hypofractionation and short-schedule of chemotherapy, when applicable, were preferred. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings show a rapid and effective reaction of European particle RT hubs to manage the healthcare crisis. Considering the new waves and virus variants, the vaccination campaign will hopefully reduce the oncological impacts and consequences of the prolonged outbreak

Vestlandsforsking have collected and systematized data on transport, energy and the environment since the institute was created in 1987. An early milestone was in 1993 with the release of the report "Passenger transport, impacts on energy and the environment." The report documented the development of a comprehensive database of energy and environmental data for passenger transport. The report included the consumption figures and emission factors for different travel types, vehicles and fuels. Høyer and Heiberg's report represented the first comprehensive presentation of the Norwegian passenger transport energy and emissions accounting, based on objective and consistent data of high scientific quality. The report aroused very great interest and was by far the best-selling report throughout Vestlandsforsking history. More than 200 reports are sold and report results through the years passed by VF researchers at nearly 100 lectures for students, researchers and politicians. Among other things, the report contributed to the permanent teaching assignments among third- and fourth year students at NTNU and the University of Oslo. In addition, a number of subsequent research in the VF are based on data from this work. Indeed, the report of 1993 has been a prerequisite for the implementation of many of these projects, including four completed PhD degrees between 1999-2003. In the period after 1993 Vestlandsforsking regularly updated pieces of data in various projects. The here applied project will build on and continue the results of these projects. An important refinement on the original work of Høyer and Heiberg, and subsequent projects, is the delimitation of passengers. Although we have been able to do some minor analysis on freight transport, we have not had project basis to make an equally thorough analysis on the goods side as we did in 1993 on the personal side. To extend from passenger to also carry freight transport is a very important point in the envisioned project

The history of alternative fuels in transportation: The case of electric and hybrid cars

    No full text
The article describes and presents a critical analysis of the long history of alternative fuels and propulsion technologies, particularly in automobile applications. Cases are electric and hybrid cars. The term "critical analysis" refers to the analysis of the various alternative technologies in relation to their societal contexts. In particular, these are the varying contexts of energy security, energy policy, environmental problems, sustainability, and also the later more explicit climate change context. This approach gives some knowledge with relevance to the current discussions on implementation issues. The work is first of all founded on the knowledge field of "Social Studies of Technological Systems".
