    User guide for WIACX: A transonic wind-tunnel wall interference assessment and correction procedure for the NTF

This report is a user manual for the codes comprising the correction procedure. It also includes listings of sample procedures and input files for running a sample case and plotting the results

    First report of Leptosphaeria biglobosa ‘brassicae’ as causal agent of phoma leaf spot in Brassica napus (Canola) in Argentina

    Canola(Brassicanapus L.) is the second largest oilseed crop in the worldproviding 13% of the world´s oil supply. This crop has been grown in Argentinasince the 1930s, and the area devoted to its cultivation varies every year,reaching a maximum of 95000 Ha in the 2012/2013 growing season. Because of theoccurrence of optimal weather conditions and soils with high fertility, theaverage yield in this region is about 2000 kg/Ha. Phoma leaf spot and Phomastem canker are considered the most important and devastating diseases in Brassica napus andother Brassicaespecies [1]. In both cases, the causal agent is a complexof two closely related fungal species, Leptosphaeria maculans and L. biglobosa. In Argentina,the presence of L. maculans incanola plants was reported for the first time in 2004 [2], but the existence ofL.biglobosa has not been recorded so far. During the 2015/2016season, we collected several samples with typical Phoma leaf spot symptoms fromcanola plants growing in fields from the north and northeastern regions of the Buenos Aires province.The necrotic lesions were circular to irregularly oval, 8 to 15 mm in diameter,pale brown in the center, grayish green at the margin and characterized withthe presence of pycnidia. Several leaf pieces with lesions were rinsed twicewith deionized sterile water and placed in a humid chamber (90 mm diameterPetri dish with a layer of filter paper soaked in deionized sterile water) during2-3 days to induce the pycnidia to exude cirri of conidia. After this period,one cirrus per sample was transferred onto PDA plates supplemented withantibiotics (15 mg/L streptomycin, 15 mg/L gentamicin and 12 mg/L tetracycline)using an inoculation needle under stereoscopic microscope. Thus, severalisolates were obtained, some of them showing rapid mycelial growth rate andpigment production on PDA medium, as showed by the isolate Tapidor of L. biglobosa thatwe used as control (kindly provided by Professor Bruce Fitt, University ofHertfordshire-UK). In order to confirm the identity of these isolates, a PCRassay using genomic DNA as template was performed to distinguish L. maculans from L. biglobosa withthe species-specific primers LmacR, LmacF,and LbigF ina three-primers strategy described by Gaetan (2005)[3]. These reactions gave a444-bp amplicon as expected for L. biglobosa ´brassicae´.In addition, these results were confirmed by sequencing the nuclear ribosomalinternal transcribed spacer (ITS) region, which showed a 99% of identity withthe sequence of L. biglobosa ´brassicae´at the GenBank database (FO905468). L. biglobosa isolateswere then tested for pathogenicity on the canola cultivars Westar and Bioaureo2286 (Nuseed). With this purpose, cotyledons of 10-day-old seedlings werepricked with a needle, and each wound inoculated with 10 μl ofa conidial suspension (107 42conidia/ml). Sterilized distilled water was used as control. Developing primaryleaves were removed every 2-3 days in order to ensure that cotyledons continueto expand. Fourteen days after inoculation, irregular and brown necroticlesions were visible at the site of inoculation. These cotyledons were detachedand placed in a humid chamber to induce pycnidia formation. After three dayscirri of conidia were transferred to a plate with PDA supplemented with antibioticsas mentioned above. The identity of these isolates of L. biglobosa wereconfirmed by pigment production on PDA medium and by PCR assay usingspecies-specific primers. To our knowledge, this is the first report of L. biglobosa ´brassicae´as a pathogen of canola in Argentina. This finding shows that in Argentina´scanola cropping areas not 50 only L. maculans but alsoL.biglobosa are the causal agents of Phoma leaf spot disease.Fil: Rossi, Franco Rubén.     Wind tunnel wall interference assessment and correction (WIAC) concepts, applications, and typical results are discussed in terms of several nonlinear transonic codes and one panel method code developed for and being implemented at NASA-Langley. Contrasts between 2-D and 3-D transonic testing factors which affect WIAC procedures are illustrated using airfoil data from the 0.3 m Transonic Cryogenic Tunnel and Pathfinder 1 data from the National Transonic Facility.     A Smart Decision System for Digital Farming

    [EN] New technologies have the potential to transform agriculture and to reduce environmental impact through a green revolution. Internet of Things (IoT)-based application development platforms have the potential to run farm management tools capable of monitoring real-time events when integrated into interactive innovation models for fertirrigation. Their capabilities must extend to flexible reconfiguration of programmed actions. IoT platforms require complex smart decision-making systems based on data-analysis and data mining of big data sets. In this paper, the advantages are demonstrated of a powerful tool that applies real-time decisions from data such as variable rate irrigation, and selected parameters from field and weather conditions. The field parameters, the index vegetation (estimated using aerial images), and the irrigation events, such as flow level, pressure level, and wind speed, are periodically sampled. Data is processed in a decision-making system based on learning prediction rules in conjunction with the Drools rule engine.     Identificación inmunoproteómica de antígenos de Lomentospora prolificans con interés diagnóstico y terapéutico.

    264 p.Este estudio inmunoproteómico ha permitido la identificación de antígenos de Lomentospora prolificans de relevancia para el diagnóstico y el tratamiento. Concretamente, se ha descrito una elevada prevalencia de reactividad de las IgA salivares de humanos sanos frente a la ciclofilina y la enolasa del hongo, lo que, junto a su localización en la superficie celular, hacen de estas enzimas unas candidatas potenciales a ser estudiadas como dianas terapéuticas o para el desarrollo de vacunas. Además, se ha demostrado la reactividad cruzada de estas enzimas con A. fumigatus, lo que puede ser de interés para el desarrollo de tratamientos eficaces frente a ambos géneros. Por otro lado, se ha demostrado que L. prolificans es más virulento que Scedosporium spp. y A. fumigatus. El estudio de los sueros obtenidos de infecciones murinas permitió la identificación de los antígenos inmunodominantes de L. prolificans. Algunas de las proteínas identificadas, como el receptor proteasomal de ubiquitina, CPY, Vps28, hidrolasa tipo HAD, GH16, Hp jhhlp_006787, la cerato-platanina y la Hsp70 pueden ser interesantes como dianas diagnósticas y terapéutic

    Reflexiones sobre los frentes de agua en el contexto de las intervenciones urbanas

    This paper reflects on the problem of waterfronts in relation to the processes of urban revitalization. The methodology applied aims at looking for general and specific literature in order to compare different perspectives of study, taking into account the following: the changes that have taken place as well as the impacts on space dynamics; the social and economic problems observed and the forms of articulation mainly between urban policies and agents participating on these spaces. Generally speaking, at the moment of their study, waterfronts present complexities due to strong differences in their natural conditions and, also, because of the actions proposed to be carried out on them. Large interventions, in general, have copied an intervention model, whose features are exclusive use associated to the creation of new spaces of consumption. Urban policy assumes a role of utmost importance given that it should be flexible but at the same time it should establish regulations and instruments that allow market regulation, ensuring that interventions are not only based on the cost-benefit relation, economically speaking, but also on the social condition of public spaces as inseparable part of the urban experience.  El presente trabajo reflexiona sobre la problemática de los frentes de agua, vinculada a procesos de revitalización urbana. La metodología plantea la búsqueda de bibliografía general y específica a fin de confrontar distintas perspectivas de estudio, teniendo en cuenta: los cambios que se fueron produciendo a lo largo del tiempo y los impactos sobre la organización y dinámica del espacio que conllevaron; las problemáticas (sociales, económicas) que se observan y las formas de articulación, principalmente, entre las políticas urbanas y los agentes que accionan sobre estos espacios. En líneas generales, los frentes de agua presentan complejidades al momento de su estudio debido a las fuertes diferenciaciones en sus condiciones naturales y, también, a partir de las acciones sobre ellos propuestas. Las grandes intervenciones se han volcado, en general, a replicar un modelo de intervención que se identifica con una cierta exclusividad en cuanto a su uso, asociada a la creación de nuevos espacios de consumo. La política urbana asume una función de suma importancia dado que debe ser flexible pero a la vez crear normativas e instrumentos que permitan regular el mercado, procurando intervenciones que no solo pasen por el costo/beneficio, en términos económicos, sino hagan hincapié en la condición social del espacio público como parte indisociable de la experiencia urbana
