HI aperture synthesis and optical observations of the pair of galaxies NGC 6907 and 6908
NGC 6908, a S0 galaxy situated in direction of NGC 6907, was only recently
recognized as a distinct galaxy, instead of only a part of NGC 6907. We present
21 cm radio synthesis observations obtained with the GMRT and optical images
and spectroscopy obtained with the Gemini North telescope of this pair of
interacting galaxies. From the radio observations we obtained the velocity
field and the HI column density map of the whole region containing the NGC
6907/8 pair, and by means of the Gemini multi-object spectroscopy we obtained
high quality photometric images and resolution spectra sampling the
two galaxies. By comparing the rotation curve of NGC 6907 obtained from the two
opposite sides around the main kinematic axis, we were able to distinguish the
normal rotational velocity field from the velocity components produced by the
interaction between the two galaxies. Taking into account the rotational
velocity of NGC 6907 and the velocity derived from the absorption lines for NGC
6908, we verified that the relative velocity between these systems is lower
than 60 km s. The emission lines observed in the direction of NGC 6908,
not typical of S0 galaxies, have the same velocity expected for the NGC 6907
rotation curve. Some of them, superimposed on the absorption profiles, which
reinforces the idea that they were not formed in NGC 6908. Finally, the HI
profile exhibits details of the interaction, showing three components: one for
NGC 6908, another for the excited gas in the NGC 6907 disk and a last one for
the gas with higher relative velocities left behind NGC 6908 by dynamical
friction, used to estimate the time when the interaction started in years ago.Comment: 11 pages, 5 tables, 13 figures. Corrected typos. Accepted for

Cloaking resonant scatterers and tuning electron flow in graphene
We consider resonant scatterers with large scattering cross-sections in graphene that are produced by a gated disk or a vacancy, and show that a gated ring can be engineered to produce an efficient electron cloak. We also demonstrate that this same scheme can be applied to tune the direction of electron flow. Our analysis is based on a partial-wave expansion of the electronic wave-functions in the continuum approximation, described by the Dirac equation. Using a symmetrized version of the massless Dirac equation, we derive a general condition for the cloaking of a scatterer by a potential with radial symmetry. We also perform tight-binding calculations to show that our findings are robust against the presence of disorder in the gate potential.NMRP acknowledges support from EC under Graphene Flagship (Contract No. CNECT-ICT604391), the hospitality of the Instituto de Física of the UFRJ, and stimulating discussions with Bruno Amorim on the Lippamnn-Schwinger equation for Dirac electrons. Flavored CP asymmetries for type II seesaw leptogenesis
A novel contribution to the leptonic CP asymmetries in type II seesaw leptogenesis scenarios is obtained for the cases in which flavor effects are relevant for the dynamics of leptogenesis. In the so-called flavored leptogenesis regime, the interference between the tree-level amplitude of the scalar triplet decaying into two leptons and the one-loop wave function correction with leptons in the loop, leads to a new nonvanishing CP asymmetry contribution. The latter conserves total lepton number but violates lepton flavor. Cases in which this novel contribution may be dominant in the generation of the baryon asymmetry are briefly discussed
MPK6, sphinganine and the \u3ci\u3eLCB2a\u3c/i\u3e gene from serine palmitoyltransferase are required in the signaling pathway that mediates cell death induced by long chain bases in \u3ci\u3eArabidopsis\u3c/i\u3e
• Long chain bases (LCBs) are sphingolipid intermediates acting as second messengers in programmed cell death (PCD) in plants. Most of the molecular and cellular features of this signaling function remain unknown.
• We induced PCD conditions in Arabidopsis thaliana seedlings and analyzed LCB accumulation kinetics, cell ultrastructure and phenotypes in serine palmitoyltransferase (spt), mitogen-activated protein kinase (mpk), mitogenactivated protein phosphatase (mkp1) and lcb-hydroxylase (sbh) mutants.
• The lcb2a-1 mutant was unable to mount an effective PCD in response to fumonisin B1 (FB1), revealing that the LCB2a gene is essential for the induction of PCD. The accumulation kinetics of LCBs in wild-type (WT) and lcb2a-1 plants and reconstitution experiments with sphinganine indicated that this LCB was primarily responsible for PCD elicitation. The resistance of the null mpk6 mutant to manifest PCD on FB1 and sphinganine addition and the failure to show resistance on pathogen infection and MPK6 activation by FB1 and LCBs indicated that MPK6 mediates PCD downstream of LCBs.
• This work describes MPK6 as a novel transducer in the pathway leading to LCBinduced PCD in Arabidopsis, and reveals that sphinganine and the LCB2a gene are required in a PCD process that operates as one of the more effective strategies used as defense against pathogens in plants
Removing Ambiguities in the Neutrino Mass Matrix
We suggest that the weak-basis independent condition det(M_nu)=0 for the
effective neutrino mass matrix can be used in order to remove the ambiguities
in the reconstruction of the neutrino mass matrix from input data available
from present and future feasible experiments. In this framework, we study the
full reconstruction of M_nu with special emphasis on the correlation between
the Majorana CP-violating phase and the various mixing angles. The impact of
the recent KamLAND results on the effective neutrino mass parameter is also
briefly discussed.Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures. Comments and references added; final version to

Fbxl17 is rearranged in breast cancer and loss of its activity leads to increased global O -GlcNAcylation
Funder: Wildy Fellowship Department of PathologyFunder: Addenbrooke's Charitable Trust, Cambridge University Hospitals; doi: http://dx.doi.org/10.13039/501100002927Funder: The Mark FoundationAbstract: In cancer, many genes are mutated by genome rearrangement, but our understanding of the functional consequences of this remains rudimentary. Here we report the F-box protein encoded by FBXL17 is disrupted in the region of the gene that encodes its substrate-binding leucine rich repeat (LRR) domain. Truncating Fbxl17 LRRs impaired its association with the other SCF holoenzyme subunits Skp1, Cul1 and Rbx1, and decreased ubiquitination activity. Loss of the LRRs also differentially affected Fbxl17 binding to its targets. Thus, genomic rearrangements in FBXL17 are likely to disrupt SCFFbxl17-regulated networks in cancer cells. To investigate the functional effect of these rearrangements, we performed a yeast two-hybrid screen to identify Fbxl17-interacting proteins. Among the 37 binding partners Uap1, an enzyme involved in O-GlcNAcylation of proteins was identified most frequently. We demonstrate that Fbxl17 binds to UAP1 directly and inhibits its phosphorylation, which we propose regulates UAP1 activity. Knockdown of Fbxl17 expression elevated O-GlcNAcylation in breast cancer cells, arguing for a functional role for Fbxl17 in this metabolic pathway
Patient reported outcomes (PROS) in psoriasis patients
P20
Introduction: Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease with negative physical, mental and social manifestations. Method: We carried out a longitudinal and prospective study under routine clinical practice conditions. The objective of the study was to measure quality of life with the Short Form-36 Survey (SF-36) and correlate the results with clinical variables using the PASI and BSA in a group of 17 patients with moderate to severe psoriasis treated with Ustekinumab. Results: In the baseline evaluation we observed the following results: 35.3% reported physical malfunction, 64.7% debilitating pain, 82.3% poor health in general, 76.4% bad vitality, 88.2% social malfunction, 100% emotional malfunction and 82.3% poor mental health. At week 78 we observed the following results: 41.15% reported very good physical functioning, 76.1% no pain, 58.8% good general health, 58.8% very good vitality, 70%, 5% good social functioning, 70.5% good emotional functioning and 52.9% good mental health. Conclusion: We observed that the perception of patients with moderate-severe psoriasis regarding their health at the beginning of treatment with Ustekinumab was poor and that they experienced a significant improvement throughout the successive weeks of treatment
Sperm Hyperactivation and Capacitation Induced By Light Stimuli in Cryopreserved Semen
In mammals, such as rabbits, there are some factors involved in possible fertilization, from complex changes in the membrane of the sperm to obstruction or non-existent of vas deferens, which creates problems in the number and quality of sperm. In this work, we report the effects of rabbit sperm motility and capacitation of cryopreserved semen samples under light stimuli. The sperm velocities were correlated with the percentage of capacitated and non-capacitated sperm seen with a fluorescent dye. Consequently, we analyzed the specific correlations between irradiation times, supplied energy, and fertility parameters.
