Women with Blood Hypertension: A Dialogical Reflection

    Get PDF
The article reflects on the “philosophy of dialogue” of Martín Buber for the analysis of the relationship of women who live with arterial hypertension. With the theoretical proposal of Buber, considering the social context from the world view of the disease, this leads to relationships of suffering and anguish, but with dialogue among the people who live with this disease it is observed in specific cases of chronic disease. Likewise, the panorama of the problem is the interaction between the social being and the disease, in order to generate a dialogue between the disease and the women who live daily this condition

This TFG expounds a detailed study on young people´s situation in the Spanish labour market during recent years that serves to try to understand how a high youth unemployment rate was reached during the Great Recession. According to this purpose, we compare the main aspects that characterize young people´s employment situation with adult population´s one, and examine their reality at a different territorial levels. This study allows us to affirm that the crisis has aggravated young people´s situation more than the adults’ one, despite of their greater academic training. The circumstances of the young canaries are worse than those of the national average, and these, in turn, than those of the European´s one, being one of the causes the legislative framework. Having more academic training grants labour advantages, even though it does not guarantee an adequate job.

Angiotensin II requires an intact cardiac Thyrotropin-Releasing Hormone (TRH) system to Induce cardiac hypertrophy in mouse

Cardiac tyhrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) is overexpressed in the hypertrophied left ventricle (LV) of spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) and its inhibition prevents both hypertrophy and fibrosis. In a normal heart, the TRH increase induces fibrosis and hypertrophy opening the question of whether TRH could be a common mediator of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). We used angiotensin II (AngII) as an inductor of LVH to evaluate if the blockade of LV-TRH prevents hypertrophy and fibrosis in mice. We challenged C57BL/6 adult male mice with an infusion of AngII (osmotic pumps; 2 mg/kg.day) to induce LVH. Groups of mice were injected with an intracardiac siRNA-TRH or scrambled siRNA (siRNA-Con). Body weight, water intake and systolic arterial blood pressure (SABP) were measured daily. AngII significantly increased water intake and SABP (p <.05). Cardiac hypertrophy (heart weight/body weight) was evident in the group with the normal cardiac TRH system. In fact, it was found an AngII-induced increase of TRH precursor mRNA (p <.05) in conjunction with elevated TRH levels measured by immunohistochemistry and western blot. These changes were not observed in the AngII + siRNA-TRH group. Furthermore, AngII increased significantly (p <.05) BNP (hypertrophic marker), collagens I and III and TGF-β (fibrosis markers) expression in the group with the native cardiac TRH system. These increases were attenuated in the groups with the TRH system blocked despite the high blood pressure. Similar and stronger results were observed “in vitro” with NIH3T3 and H9C2 cell culture models, where, when the TRH system is blocked, AngII stimulus was not able to induce the markers of its fibrotic and hypertrophic effects, so we believe that these effects are independent of any other physiological modifications. Our results point out that cardiac TRH is required for AngII-induced hypertrophic and fibrotic effects.Fil: Peres Diaz, Ludmila Soledad. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas. Cardiac Thyrotropin-releasing Hormone Inhibition Improves Ventricular Function and Reduces Hypertrophy and Fibrosis After Myocardial Infarction in Rats

Background: Cardiac thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) is a tripeptide with still unknown functions. We demonstrated that the left ventricle (LV) TRH system is hyperactivated in spontaneously hypertensive rats and its inhibition prevented cardiac hypertrophy and fibrosis. Therefore, we evaluated whether in vivo cardiac TRH inhibition could improve myocardial function and attenuate ventricular remodeling in a rat model of myocardial infarction (MI). Methods and Results: In Wistar rats, MI was induced by a permanent left anterior descending coronary artery ligation. A coronary injection of a specific small interfering RNA against TRH was applied simultaneously. The control group received a scrambled small interfering RNA. Cardiac remodeling variables were evaluated one week later. In MI rats, TRH inhibition decreased LV end-diastolic (1.049 ± 0.102 mL vs 1.339 ± 0.102 mL, P <.05), and end-systolic volumes (0.282 ± 0.043 mL vs 0.515 ± 0.037 mL, P <.001), and increased LV ejection fraction (71.89 ± 2.80% vs 65.69 ± 2.85%, P <.05). Although both MI groups presented similar infarct size, small interfering RNA against TRH treatment attenuated the cardiac hypertrophy index and myocardial interstitial collagen deposition in the peri-infarct myocardium. These effects were accompanied by attenuation in the rise of transforming growth factor-β, collagen I, and collagen III, as well as the fetal genes (atrial natriuretic peptide, B-type natriuretic peptide, and beta myosin heavy chain) expression in the peri-infarct region. In addition, the expression of Hif1α and vascular endothelial growth factor significantly increased compared with all groups. Conclusions: Cardiac TRH inhibition improves LV systolic function and attenuates ventricular remodeling after MI. These novel findings support the idea that TRH inhibition may serve as a new therapeutic strategy against the progression of heart failure.Fil: Schuman, Mariano Luis. First report of cerebellar abiotrophy in an Arabian foal from Argentina

    Get PDF
Evidence of cerebellar abiotrophy (CA) was found in a six-month-old Arabian filly with signs of incoordination, head tremor, wobbling, loss of balance and falling over, consistent with a cerebellar lesion. Normal hematology profile blood test and cerebrospinal fluid analysis excluded infectious encephalitis, and serological testing for Sarcocystis neurona was negative. The filly was euthanized. Postmortem X-ray radiography of the cervical cephalic region identified not abnormalities, discounting spinal trauma. The histopathological analysis of serial transverse cerebellar sections by electron microscopy revealed morphological characteristics of apoptotic cells with pyknotic nuclei and degenerate mitochondria, cytoplasmic condensation and areas with absence of Purkinje cells, matching with CA histopathological characteristics. The indirect DNA test for CA was positive in the filly, and DNA test confirmed the CA carrier state in the parents and the recessive inheritance of the disease. To our knowledge this is the first report of a CA case in Argentina.Fil: Sadaba, Sebastian Andres. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas. Current stratification systems are not accurate enough to predict the outcome of patients. Therefore, identifying more accurate prognostic EC biomarkers is crucial. We aimed to validate 255 prognostic biomarkers identified in multiple studies and explore their prognostic application by analyzing them in TCGA and CPTAC datasets. We analyzed the mRNA and proteomic expression data to assess the statistical prognostic performance of the 255 proteins. Significant biomarkers related to overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS) were combined and signatures generated. A total of 30 biomarkers were associated either to one or more of the following prognostic factors: histological type (n = 15), histological grade (n = 6), FIGO stage (n = 1), molecular classification (n = 16), or they were associated to OS (n = 11), and RFS (n = 5). A prognostic signature composed of 11 proteins increased the accuracy to predict OS (AUC = 0.827). The study validates and identifies new potential applications of 30 proteins as prognostic biomarkers and suggests to further study under-studied biomarkers such as TPX2, and confirms already used biomarkers such as MSH6, MSH2, or L1CAM. These results are expected to advance the quest for biomarkers to accurately assess the risk of EC patients. This research was funded by grants from the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII) grant number PI17/02155, PI20/00644, and the IFI19/00029 to E.C.-d.l.R., the Ministerio de ciencia, Innovación y Universidades through a RETOS Colaboración (RTC-2017-6261-1), both co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER); from Fundación Científica Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer (AECC) grant number GCTRA1804MATI and CIBERONC network grant number CB16/12/00328; and Grups Consolidats de la Generalitat de Catalunya (2017SGR1661).
