Past Themes and Tracking Research Trends in Entrepreneurship: A Co-Word, Cites and Usage Count Analysis

    Get PDF
This paper examines the evolution of research in Entrepreneurship published in Web of Science, a reference database. A bibliometric content analysis has been carried out as part of this investigation, allowing for a longitudinal study of the main research topics dealt with over time, ranging from classic topics such as its conception to more recent realities that include Social and Sustainable Entrepreneurship. This paper locates research trends by studying the evolution of citations and by incorporating use metrics. The results point to the existence of seven cognitive fronts that have marked the field’s growth and conceptual evolution. Furthermore, evidence is presented that shows how innovation has historically been the thread that links all the core themes. The topics and trends detected contribute specially to advancing the current discussion on entrepreneurship and coordinating future research efforts

Improved energy efficiency in wineries using data from audits

The wine production process has a high energy demand of about 1,750 million kWh per year in the EU. Saving energy, responsible consumption and efficient use of energy sources are key aspects to consider for the competitiveness and viability of the sector. Therefore, the TESLA project (Transfering Energy Save Laid on Agroindustry), funded by the European Commission, has conducted 39 energy audits in wineries from four countries (Spain, France, Portugal and Italy). The information collected has allowed them to carry out a comparative analysis of energy efficiency measures through a technical-economic study, calculating the period of return on investment and performing a sensitivity analysis to determine the break-even point for each of the investments analysed. The results show that the replacement of chillers by more efficient ones, the installation of variable speed drives on pumps, the introduction of management and control measures such as the implementation of a Building Management System (BMS) and the installation of energy analysers for identification of consumption by use are the measures that have the greatest quantitative impact

Motivations for the Use of Video Game Streaming Platforms: The Moderating Effect of Sex, Age and Self-Perception of Level as a Player

A particularly striking new phenomenon in recent years is the live streaming of video games through popular platforms, such as Twitch. This study focuses on the motivations and types of use underlying viewer participation in live streaming platforms. Based on the uses and gratifications theory, this paper aims to analyse how three basic motivations are related to the use of video game streaming platforms. Furthermore, it examines the moderating effects that significant variables, such as the audience member’s age, sex or self-perception of level as a player may exert on this relationship. The results reveal that the three types of motivations are positively associated with use of the platform, although notable differences appear, with informational motivations outweighing entertainment and social motivations. At the same time, no moderating effects on the results of the proposed model were found for the heterogeneity stemming from sex and age. Conversely, the influence of informational motivations on the use of these platforms is moderated by the self-perception of level as a player

Exploring the Emerging Domain of Research on Video Game Live Streaming in Web of Science: State of the Art, Changes and Trends

In recent years, interest in video game live streaming services has increased as a new communication instrument, social network, source of leisure, and entertainment platform for millions of users. The rise in this type of service has been accompanied by an increase in research on these platforms. As an emerging domain of research focused on this novel phenomenon takes shape, it is necessary to delve into its nature and antecedents. The main objective of this research is to provide a comprehensive reference that allows future analyses to be addressed with greater rigor and theoretical depth. In this work, we developed a meta-review of the literature supported by a bibliometric performance and network analysis (BPNA). We used the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis) protocol to obtain a representative sample of 111 published documents since 2012 and indexed in the Web of Science. Additionally, we exposed the main research topics developed to date, which allowed us to detect future research challenges and trends. The findings revealed four specializations or subdomains: studies focused on the transmitter or streamer; the receiver or the audience; the channel or platform; and the transmission process. These four specializations add to the accumulated knowledge through the development of six core themes that emerge: motivations, behaviors, monetization of activities, quality of experience, use of social networks and media, and gender issues

Ztreamy: a middleware for publishing semantic streams on the web

    Get PDF
In order to make the semantic sensor Web a reality, middleware for efficiently publishing semantically-annotated data streams on the Web is needed. Such middleware should be designed to allow third parties to reuse and mash-up data coming from streams. These third parties should even be able to publish their own value-added streams derived from other streams and static data. In this work we present Ztreamy, a scalable middleware platform for the distribution of semantic data streams through HTTP. The platform provides an API for both publishing and consuming streams, as well as built-in filtering services based on data semantics. A key contribution of our proposal with respect to other related systems in the state of the art is its scalability. Our experiments with Ztreamy show that a single server is able, in some configurations, to publish a real-time stream to up to 40.000 simultaneous clients with delivery delays of just a few seconds, largely outperforming other systems in the state of the art.Publicad

An optimal strategy for maximizing the expected real-estate selling price: accept or reject an offer?

    Get PDF
Motivated by a real-life situation, we put forward a model and then derive an optimal strategy that maximizes the expected real-estate selling price when one of the only two remaining buyers has already made an offer but the other one is yet to make. Since the seller is not sure whether the other buyer would make a lower or higher offer, and given no recall, the seller needs a strategy to decide whether to accept or reject the first-come offer. The herein derived optimal seller's strategy, which maximizes the expected selling price, is illustrated under several scenarios, such as independent and dependent offers by the two buyers, and for several parametric price distributions

The Caesar’s Wealth before the Watchdog: A Precision Journalism analysis about financial transparency of Government Cabinet in Spain

The administrative information about top officials and civil servants’ activities in Spain is still kept under important restrictions. Such limitation is particularly severe on personal data of any type related to these politicians, in accordance with the Spanish preference for protection to privacy over the right to public interest information. Even so, since 2009 some regulations openness has taken place in relation to Government and Parliament members’ declarations about their assets, their personal economic interests and their business ties. The new regulation supposes a tiny advance towards a democratic transparency of general interest administrative documentation. Through the access to the specific data bases, precision journalism –a newsmedia strategy specialized on computer cross-checking and matching of big data collections-, contributes to a real democratic transparency by means of the disclosure of unveil irregularities, institutional unbalances or just basic data about public servants’ activities which can improve the control of the public institutions responsiveness by the citizens. Across an accurate data petition and the access to the specific datafiles recently unlocked to the public scrutiny in Spain, this article shows the results of an application of precision journalism to the case of the main directors of the executive power regarding their personal assets, complementary incomes and business connections. Nevertheless, the poor data specification showed in the disclosure records of the Spanish Administration seriously restricts the goal of a full watchdogging of the political representativesDepto. de Periodismo y Comunicación GlobalFac. de Ciencias de la InformaciónTRUEpu
