higher education - Reference 2019-1-ES01-KA203-0658152019-1-ES01-KA203-065815The paper introduces the competence framework produced by the OpenGame project, that includes the attitudes, knowledge and skills that educators need to master in order to work with Open Educational Practices (OEP). With this outcome, the OpenGame research team aims at closing the gap between the expanded interest of researchers and practitioners towards a holistic vision of open education and the absence of a sharedcompetence framework that can cover both the creation and/or use of Open Educational resources (OER) and the broader realm of OEP. Starting from literature review complemented with the analysis of 24 open teaching practices, 8 competences have been defined, related to both OER and open pedagogies. The competences relating to OER are: use open licences; search for OER; create, revise, and remix OER; and share OER. The competences relating to open pedagogy are: design open educational experiences; guide students to learn in the open; teach with OER; and implement open assessment. The framework details the knowledge and skills that correspond to each competence and can serve both as a starting point to build educators’ capacities to work with open approaches and as a reflexion tool to better understand what it means to be an Open Educator in the 21stcentury.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Catch the Open! A Gamified Interactive Immersion Into Open Educational Practices for Higher Education Educators
Open Education (OE) opens up learning opportunities to, potentially, every person in the world. Additionally, it allows teachers, researchers, and practitioners to find, share, reuse, and improve existing resources under a dependable legal framework. Aiming to spread and foster the introduction of open policies in Higher Education (HE) institutions, the gamified interactive learning experience Catch the Open! was developed. Catch the Open! targets HE educators who wish to learn, or who wish to deepen their existing knowledge, about OE and Open Educational Practices (OEP). Within the gamified learning experience, the user becomes an educator, Alex, the game character, who receives a task from the Rector: to investigate how to best include OE and OEP in teaching and learning practice within the institution. Alex proceeds to explore and gather information in a web-based 2D virtual HE institution where students, colleagues, and guest researchers will help her to develop a comprehensive understanding of OE and the practical application of OEP. The educational content within Catch the Open! is underpinned by an OE competences framework for HE educators, developed in a previous phase of the Erasmus+ OpenGame project. In this paper, the design process to link pedagogical and technological approaches, which results in the Catch the Open! gamified web-based interactive application, is presented as well as the application itself. Moreover, two phases of piloting with 153 HE educators from six different HE institutions are presented. The obtained findings showed that the gamified environment helped in learning about OE. On the other hand, learners also suggested several improvement aspects of the gamified environment, such as the length of finishing a learning mission while playing
Cancer treatment-induced oral mucositis: a critical review
Introduction.- Head and neck cancer represents actually one of the main oncological problems. In its treatment, radiotherapy and chemotherapy leads to mucositis, as well as other side effects.
Objective.- To review the high-quality evidence published over the last twenty-five years on the treatment of cancer treatment-induced oral mucositis.
Material and methods.- A search of double blind randomised controlled clinical trials between 1985 and 2010 was performed in the Medline database. Oral mucositis, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, head and neck were used as keywords.
Results.- The different therapeutic approaches found for cancer treatment-induced oral mucositis included: intensive oral hygiene care, use of topical antiseptics and antimicrobial agents, use of anti inflammatory agents, cytokines and growth factors, locally applied non-pharmacological methods, antioxidants, immune modulators, anticholeric agents and homoeopathic agents.
Discussion.- To date no intervention has been able to prevent and treat oral mucositis on its own. Therefore, it is necessary to combine interventions that act on the different phases of mucositis.
Conclusions.- It is still unclear as to which strategies reduce oral mucositis, as there is not enough
evidence that describes a treatment with a proven efficiency and better than the other treatments for this conditio
Tesi
Comparative trial between the use of amoxicillin and amoxicillin clavulanate in the removal of third molars
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare the use of amoxicillin (1g) vs amoxicillin and clavulanate
(875/125mg) after extraction of retained third molars for prevention of infectious complications.
Study Design: The study involved 546 patients attending for removal a retained third molar and divided in to two
groups: Group 1 - amoxicillin and clavunate (875/125mg) group (n=257) and Group 2 - amoxicillin (1g) group
(n=289). All patients were recalled for investigating the possibility of infection, presence of diarrhea and further
analgesic intake.
Results: From a total of 546 patients, the frequency of infection was 1.4%, without no statistically differences be
-
tween the two groups. Group 1 showed statistically higher presence of patients with gastrointestinal complications
(
p>0.05).
In 546 patients, 2.7% of patients reported severe pain that would not relieve with medication.
Conclusions: The results of our study show that the use of amoxicillin (1g) and amoxicillin and clavunate
(875/125mg) is similar efficacious in preventing infection after retained third molar extraction but amoxicillin and
clavunate (875/125mg) produces more gastrointestinal discomfort

Altmetrics analysis of Archivos de Bronconeumología from 2014 to 2018
Introduction: Alternative metrics or altmetrics are non-traditional measurements of scientific production that reflect a publication's influence in social networks and similar channels of dissemination. The aim of this study was to analyze the media impact of ARCHIVOS DE BRONCONEUMOLOGÍA according to 2 altmetric aggregators and website visits. Methods: This was an observational study of the original articles and review and consensus articles published in ARCHIVOS DE BRONCONEUMOLOGÍA during the period 2014-2018. Data from the PlumX Metrics and Altmetric aggregators and visits to the ARCHIVOS DE BRONCONEUMOLOGÍA website were analyzed. Five comparisons were made: by specialty area, by funding received, by number of participating centers, by document type, and by topic. In a subanalysis, altmetrics were correlated with the conventional citation system. Results: We analyzed 273 papers, of which 186 were original articles (68.1%). The papers that achieved greater media impact in the 2 aggregators analyzed, and in terms of website visits, were pulmonology papers and review and consensus articles. The mean Altmetric Attention Score was 1.9 ± 4.4 (range 0-59), which is above average for the date of publication of the paper. A statistically significant weak to moderate correlation was identified between altmetrics and conventional citations. Conclusions: Review articles, consensus documents, and pulmonology papers had a greater media impact. Mean Altmetric Attention Score was higher than the average based on the date of publication. A weak to moderate correlation between altmetrics and conventional citations was identified.

Rapid diagnostic tests duo as alternative to conventional serological assays for conclusive Chagas disease diagnosis
Chagas disease is caused by the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi. It
affects several million people, mainly in Latin America, and
severe cardiac and/or digestive complications occur in ~30% of
the chronically infected patients. Disease acute stage is mostly
asymptomatic and infection goes undiagnosed. In the chronic
phase direct parasite detection is hampered due to its concealed
presence and diagnosis is achieved by serological methods, like
ELISA or indirect hemagglutination assays. Agreement in at least
two tests must be obtained due to parasite wide antigenic
variability. These techniques require equipped labs and trained
personnel and are not available in distant regions. As a result,
many infected people often remain undiagnosed until it is too
late, as the two available chemotherapies show diminished
efficacy in the advanced chronic stage. Easy-to-use rapid
diagnostic tests have been developed to be implemented in remote
areas as an alternative to conventional tests. They do not need
electricity, nor cold chain, they can return results within an
hour and some even work with whole blood as sample, like Chagas
Stat-Pak (ChemBio Inc.) and Chagas Detect Plus (InBIOS Inc.).
Nonetheless, in order to qualify a rapidly diagnosed positive
patient for treatment, conventional serological confirmation is
obligatory, which might risk its start. In this study two rapid
tests based on distinct antigen sets were used in parallel as a
way to obtain a fast and conclusive Chagas disease diagnosis
using whole blood samples. Chagas Stat-Pak and Chagas Detect
Plus were validated by comparison with three conventional tests
yielding 100% sensitivity and 99.3% specificity over 342
patients seeking Chagas disease diagnosis in a reference centre
in Sucre (Bolivia). Combined used of RDTs in distant regions
could substitute laborious conventional serology, allowing
immediate treatment and favouring better adhesion to it
