Tesi

[EN] Most research support positive relationships between physical activity and mental health. However, possible moderating variables of these relationships have also been identified, such as age, gender, level of physical activity, and the scope of physical activity. This study aimed to analyze the relationships between physical activity and mental health levels in undergraduate students, assessing whether these associations can change depending on the level of physical activity (low, medium, or high) and the setting (occupational, commuting, or leisure time physical activity) in which it was performed. A descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted. The sample comprised 847 undergraduate students. Physical activity and mental health were measured by the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQv2) and the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12). We found relationships between students’ physical activity level and their mental health status. The higher the total physical activity, the better their mental health scores. High levels of commuting and leisure time physical activity is also associated with better mental health, while only moderate levels of occupational physical activity are associated with better mental health status. Regarding the possible associations between physical activity and vulnerability to mental health problems, with the fully adjusted regression model, leisure time and occupational physical activity remain protective of a poor state of mental health. Leisure time physical activity, performed at a high level, and moderate occupational physical activity seems to be the best combination of physical activity to reduce students’ vulnerability to potential mental health problems.SIUniversidad Francisco de Vitori

Work-related stress is a major cause of health problems worldwide. Faculty in educational institutions, including universities, also face high levels of stress, which undoubtedly affects their performance, level of personal satisfaction and wellbeing, and the relationship with students. Training interventions based on embodied learning can promote self-knowledge, emotional regulation and stress reduction, thereby increasing levels of psychological well-being. The present pilot study analyzed the impact of body awareness training in 31 university teachers using a controlled, randomized pre-post experimental design, with two experimental groups and a control group (n = 10). The two interventions were: Hatha Yoga (n = 11) and Dance Movement Therapy/Body Mind Centering (n = 10), which we have termed Body Movement Awareness. Variables related to body awareness, mindfulness, wellbeing, life satisfaction and stress were measured using self-perception tests. Cortisol levels, heart rate variability and sleep quality were also analyzed. Finally, participants’ reflections were analyzed according to a qualitative approach. The results showed significant differences between the control group and the Hatha Yoga group in terms of stress reduction and wellbeing. The Body Movement Awareness group exhibited evidence of contributions on self-knowledge, communication and kinesthetic empathy, key elements in the educational field. Despite the inherent limitations of the study, the conclusions are encouraging and open new lines of research from embodied approaches that introduce creative movement and group experience as part of the process of emotional regulation and self-knowledge.post-print2831 K

    Get PDF

Metal-organic aerogels based on titanium(IV) for visible-light conducted CO2 photoreduction to alcohols

    Get PDF
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) imply an appealing source of photocatalysts as they combine porosity with tailorable electronic properties and surface chemistry. Herein, we report a series of unprecedented metal-organic aerogels (MOAs) comprised by Ti(IV) oxo-clusters and aromatic dicarboxylic linkers as an alternative to microporous MIL-125 and MIL-125-NH2 MOFs. Discrete titanium oxo-clusters polymerized upon the addition of the dicarboxylic linkers to give rise to a metal-organic gel. Their supercritical drying led to aerogels comprised by nanoscopic particles (ca. 5-10 nm) cross-linked into a meso/macroporous microstructure with surface area ranging from 453 to 617 m2·g-1, which are comparatively lower than the surface area of the microporous counterparts (1336 and 1145 m2·g-1, respectively). However, the meso/macroporous microstructure of MOAs can provide a more fluent diffusion of reagents and products than the intrinsic porosity of MOFs, whose narrower channels are expected to imply a more sluggish mass transport. In fact, the assessment of the continuous visible-light-driven photocatalytic CO2 reduction into methanol shows that MOAs (221-786 [M] mol·g-1·h-1) far exceed not only the performance of their microporous counterparts (49-65 [M]mol·g-1·h-1) but also surpass the production rates provided by up-to-date reported photocatalysts. The authors gratefully acknowledge the financial support from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation program (grant agreement No.101037428), the Basque Government (KK-2016/ 00095-LISOL IT1291-19 and IT1722-22) and the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (TED2021-129810B-C21 and TED2021- 129810B-C22 funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and Next Generation EU/PRTR, PID2019-108028GB-C21 and PID2019- 104050RA-I00 funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033). The use of mineral wool is becoming more widespread due to increased acoustic and thermal demands of Spanish Technical Building Code. This increase affects both in rehabilitation and new construction projects. Therefore, waste generation of this type of insulating material is having more importance. The main objective of this research is to study the possibility of recycling fiber obtained from mineral wool of the C&DW as an alternative material to chopped glass fibers that are currently used as reinforcing elements in the prefabricated plaster. To achieve this objective, series are made of plaster E-35 additived with rock wool residue and glass wool residue at different rates of addition. These series are repeated by changing the additive by E fiberglass (length of 25mm) to make a comparative analysis with respect to the series additived with mineral wool waste. All the series are subjected to the test to determine Shore C surface hardness and mechanical testing to determine the compressive and flexural strength. From the results it can be concluded that: with rock wool residue, increases Shore C hardness up to 15% with respect to the glass fiber and 9% with respect to the glass wool, with a percentage of addition 2%. With rock wool residue, weight is decreased by 5% with respect to the glass fiber and 4% with respect to the glass wool waste, with an addition percentage of 4%. For an addition rate of 4%, results in the flexural strength test with fiberglass are 85% higher than those obtained with glass wool residue. However, for a percentage of 1% addition, the results obtained with glass wool residue are 35% higher than those obtained with fiberglass. For an addition rate of 3% results in the compressive strength test with fiberglass are 54% lower than those obtained with rock wool waste and 70% lower than those obtained with glass wool waste. Comparing the two mineral wools, it can be concluded that up to 3% of the addition, the glass wool series results obtained are 10% higher than those additived with rock wool. However, higher percentages of addition show that the results obtained with rock wool are 35% higher than those obtained with glass wool. The general conclusion is that the series additived with mineral wool from C&DW show better results in tests than the ones used nowadays as plaster reinforcement
