    Get PDF
The study of aging process from educative and/or pedagogic parameters is a reality in growing development. In this framework, a double meaning educative experience (formal and non formal) becomes more and more important for elderly women. These meanings are challenge, sometimes difficult, and personal satisfaction. We start from a concrete experience in educative intervention and research on elderly women. The main objective is to reflect on how the educative participation can affect women's life and aging process, as well as their leaming perception. A secondary objective is to analyse conditions and elements that contribute to optimise the educational process in which they take part

The vertiginous advance of society involves the necessity to implement procedures that allow the citizens to able to adapt to the new social requirements. This fact determines the task of educating the new generations in the family to allow their inclusion to this new social dynamic which is constantly changing. In view of this situation, parents are showing certain lacks in their formation so as to face the task of educating their children with efficient and coherent criteria. In the Area of Evolutionary Psychology, belonging to the Faculty of Educational Sciences at the Pontifical University we try to provide a response to this kind or formative needs by developing a Plan for the Parents" Formation, which is set in the context of our University and which has a preventive-educational nature, being its basic aim to reflect on the educational practices in the family. " The purpose of this project is to offer the parents appropriate models in the existing educational practice and to contribute to the demand of the schools in Salamanca in order to favour the relation between the family and the school. Besides, so that parents can attend the sessions, this Plan is complemented with the establishment of a Classroom for Child Educational Activities, where varied ludic acti vities are carried out, contributing to the integration of children in society in the context of a relaxed environment

    Modelling and Analysing Highly-Configurable Services

Since the emergence of XaaS and Cloud Computing paradigms, the number and complexity of available services have been increasing enormously. These services usually o er a plethora of con guration options, which can even include additional services provided as a bundled o er. In this scenario, usual tasks, such as description, discovery and selection, become increasingly complex due to the variability of the decision space. The notion of Highly-Con gurable Service (HCS) has been coined to identify such group of services that can be con gured and bundled together to perform demanding computing tasks. In this paper we characterize HCSs by means of an abstract model and a text-based, human-readable notation named SYNOPSIS that facilitates the execution of various service tasks. In particular, we validate the usefulness of our model when checking the validity of HCSs descriptions in SYNOPSIS, as well as selecting the optimal con guration with regards to user requirements and preferences by providing a prototype implementation.

    Get PDF
One of the main concerns facing societies today is unemployment, although its evolution is not the same in all economies. Moreover, it is one of the variables that can not only delay but also prevent real convergence between the Member States of the European Union. This is the reason why it is necessary to know the determinants of the evolution of the unemployment rate. The aim of this paper is to present an explanatory model of unemployment since the beginning of the 21st century in two Mediterranean economies, Greece and Cyprus, which have important historical, cultural and economic ties. The identification of variables that may influence unemployment makes it possible to determine whether the response of the Greek and Cypriot authorities to reduce it has been adequate.

    Get PDF
Scene‐Based Psychodramatic Family Therapy (SB‐PFT) is an innovative treatment used with troubled adolescents and their parents to improve family relationships and reduce adolescents’ problematic behavior. It integrates the principles of family therapy, psychodrama, and multiple‐family group methodology. This research is a pilot study to obtain empirical evidence on the SB‐PFT therapeutic process by gauging the perception of change of troubled adolescents and their parents, and assess the perceived helpfulness of its methodology and techniques. Ten multiple‐family intervention groups were drawn up, with 110 participants (63 adolescents and 47 parents), and we adopted a qualitative methodology with focus groups, using an inductive analysis of 290 active constructions of participant narratives. Concerning perception of change, the adolescents reported mainly gaining in social support, prosocial attitudes, keys to problem solving, and expression of emotions due to the treatment. The parents perceived improvement in social support, keys for educational practices, emotional well‐being, and expression of emotions due to the treatment. Regarding the perceived helpfulness of methodology and techniques, both adolescents and parents highlighted the usefulness of the group methodology for gaining social support, relativizing the problem, and expressing emotions. Additionally, participants referred to role‐playing and mirror techniques as the most useful techniques. In conclusion, this first study on SB‐PFT presents and describes its treatment for troubled adolescents and their parents. The participants’ positive perception of their personal and relational change after treatment should serve to promote further studies with quantitative methodology in order to verify the effectiveness of SB‐PFT treatment.Ministerio de Economía, Industria y Competitividad de España EDU2013‐41441‐PPONTE Associatio

Is contact lens discomfort related to meibomian gland morphology?

    Get PDF
Purpose: To examine the relationship between contact lens (CL) discomfort and meibomian gland (MG) morphology assessed by a semi-objective software in subjects without an alteration of MG function (meibum quality and expressibility). Methods: Nineteen symptomatic (CLDEQ-8 ≥ 12) CL wearers, 19 asymptomatic (CLDEQ-8 < 12) wearers, and 22 non-wearers were recruited. Upper and lower eyelid meibography images were taken and the following parameters were analysed using a semi-objective software in the central 2/3 of each eyelid: number of MG, number of partial MG, percentage of MG loss and percentage of tortuosity. One-way ANOVA or Kruskal-Wallis H test were used for comparisons among groups. The relationships between CLDEQ-8 and MG morphology parameters were analysed using the Spearman correlation coefficient and multivariable linear regression models. Results: No significant differences were found among groups in the MG morphology of the upper or lower eyelids. In all CL wearers, a significant correlation with CLDEQ-8 was found in the upper eyelid for the number of MG (rho = 0.47, p = 0.003). In symptomatic wearers, significant correlations with CLDEQ-8 were found in the lower eyelid for the number of partial MG (rho = 0.49, p = 0.03) and the percentage of partial MG (rho = 0.61, p = 0.005). In all CL wearers, multivariable models were fitted to explain CLDEQ-8 score including the number of MG, the number of partial MG and the percentage of MG loss from the lower eyelid (R2 = 0.19; p = 0.007), and the number of MG from the upper eyelid (R2 = 0.19; p = 0.001). In symptomatic wearers, a model was fitted including the percentage of MG loss from the lower eyelid (R2 = 0.30; p = 0.016). Conclusions: Alterations of MG morphology, without clinically apparent alteration of MG function, can be involved in causing CL discomfort and influence the degree of symptoms. The differences in findings between eyelids indicate the need to monitor both eyelids, especially the lower one, in CL wearers.Depto. de Optometría y VisiónFac. de Óptica y OptometríaTRUEpu
