Decision Tree Ensemble Method for Analyzing Traffic Accidents of Novice Drivers in Urban Areas

    Get PDF
Presently, there is a critical need to analyze traffic accidents in order to mitigate their terrible economic and human impact. Most accidents occur in urban areas. Furthermore, driving experience has an important effect on accident analysis, since inexperienced drivers are more likely to suffer fatal injuries. This work studies the injury severity produced by accidents that involve inexperienced drivers in urban areas. The analysis was based on data provided by the Spanish General Traffic Directorate. The information root node variation (IRNV) method (based on decision trees) was used to get a rule set that provides useful information about the most probable causes of fatalities in accidents involving inexperienced drivers in urban areas. This may prove useful knowledge in preventing this kind of accidents and/or mitigating their consequences.his work has been supported by the Spanish “Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad” and by “Fondo Europeo de Desarrollo Regional” (FEDER) under Project TEC2015-69496-R

The attainment of inclusive educational support requires a common response to diversity for the whole centre, which generates spaces that ensure the presence, participation and socio-educational achievement of all students. The general objective of this study is to analyse how educational support is developed from the framework of action of inclusive education in a territory from the Region of Murcia. For this purpose, a descriptive, non-experimental and mixed research was carried out using a questionnaire in which 23 support teachers participated. The results show a dissociation in the tasks of the support teachers towards the regular classroom, a largely individualised attention outside the regular classroom towards the students who receive support, and a lack of coordination and joint work on the part of the support teachers and the regular classroom teachers. It is concluded that the transformation of the barriers that hinder the establishment of inclusive support systems into facilitators for inclusion, can be determined by the existence of a more flexible curriculum, teacher training in inclusion and the reformulation of teaching roles towards more collaborative profiles.

The efficacy of pomegranate (Punica granatum) extract (PE) for improving performance and post-exercise recovery in an active population was equivocal in previous studies. In this study, a randomised, double-blinded, placebo-controlled, balanced, cross-over trial with two arms was conducted. Eligibility criteria for participants were as follows: male, amateur cyclist, with a training routine of 2 to 4 sessions per week (at least one hour per session). The cyclists (n = 26) were divided into treatment (PE) and placebo (PLA) groups for a period of 15 days. After physical tests, the groups were exchanged after a 14-day washout period. Exercise tests consisted of endurance bouts (square-wave endurance exercise test followed by an incremental exercise test to exhaustion) and an eccentric exercise drill. The objective was to assess the efficacy of PE in performance outcomes and post-exercise muscular recovery and force restoration after a prolonged submaximal effort. Twenty-six participants were included for statistical analysis. There was a statistically significant difference in total time to exhaustion (TTE)(17.66–170.94 s, p < 0.02) and the time to reach ventilatory threshold 2 (VT2)(26.98–82.55 s, p < 0.001), with greater values for the PE compared to the PLA group. No significant results were obtained for force restoration in the isokinetic unilateral low limb test. PE, after a prolonged submaximal effort, may be effective in improving performance outcomes at maximal effort and might help to restore force in the damaged muscles.Actividad Física y Deport

The present study was supported by a grant from Hero España S.A. M. C. R.-T. and J. L. Q. are recipients of a ‘Ramón y Cajal’ contract from the Ministry of Science and Technology and the University of Granada, Spain. We also thank the Fundacio´n Se´neca of the C.A.R.M. (Murcia, Spain) for the fellowship of J. G.-A.The elderly population undergoes a series of physiological and sociological changes common to old age with a high probability of suffering degenerative illness and malnutrition. A dessert rich in phenolic compounds has been designed by using concentrated juices of grape, cherry, blackberry, blackcurrant and raspberry with the aim of it being used as a complementary food in adulthood. In the present study, we investigated the effect of the intake of this dessert (a jar of 200 g daily for a period of 2 weeks), with an antioxidant activity equivalent to ten servings of fruits and vegetables, on several markers of oxidative and antioxidant status in DNA and plasma in a group of elderly individuals. Non-smoking institutionalised elderly subjects were recruited from a pool of volunteers in an old-age home in Murcia (Spain). Twenty-two subjects (six men and sixteen women) participated in the study. The study was designed as a randomised intervention trial with a period of 2 weeks. At days 1 and 15, blood samples were collected to analyse total antioxidant capacity, biochemical parameters, antioxidant vitamins, LDL peroxidation, and DNA damage in peripheral blood lymphocytes. The conclusion of the present study is that a 2-week intervention with our dessert enriched with natural polyphenol compounds in elderly individuals does not give enough time to find changes in the antioxidant and oxidative status. Also, the view that the marked antioxidant ability of polyphenols in vitro does not translate to analogous effects in vivo was confirmed. Moreover, a highly oxidative stress status during ageing was confirmed, together with the need to perform follow-up nutritional studies to improve this situation

Los resultados muestran unos niveles altos de variabilidad genética representativos de una población natural y acentúan la importancia de este grupo como reservorio de esta especie en términos genéticosWith the aim of the conservation of the genetic resources of the European seabass Dicentrarchus labrax (L., 1758), a sperm bank of 42 males from a Mediterranean population has been established. The sperm characteristics –concentration, motility and duration of fertility– were assessed, and they proved suitable for artificial fertilization. The genetic structure of the original seabass broodstock from the wild was assessed by means of a set of 10 microsatellites. These genotype markers make it possible to obtain genetic fingerprinting from each individual for identification purposes. The population structure and genetic variability parameters found agree with those of natural populations from the same species, confirming its wild origin and enhancing its value as a genetic resource for the species in terms of genetic variabilityInstituto Español de Oceanografía.
