Research Notes : Screening for cyst nematode resistance in soybean breeding

    Get PDF
As the soybean cyst nematode (SCN), Heterodera glycines Ichinohe, has become a serious pest of soybeans in the USA, development of resistant culti-vars has received greater attention. This necessitates screening of large numbers of plant progenies to locate SCN-resistant isolates in segregating generations. Ross and Brim (1957) used a double-row method to detect SCN-resistant strains of soybeans

The effectiveness of control in the construction sector, is the search for a solution to one of the problems for many companies that dedicate their activities to implement construction projects, where the documentation of information becomes a set of inconveniences, because many of the documentation are office processes that do not allow the proper implementation of projects. This problem is the cause of a series of inconveniences as the projects are executed; where the typical thing is to find unmotivated personnel, scarce and imprecise information, huge files, loss of identity of the information and waste of the budget. By means of a dichotomous survey, focused on people who dedicate their work to the development of construction works in the country, with professional profiles of different branches, we seek to know their opinion based on the experience they have had in their projects, the answers are analyzed and a conclusion is reached based on the opinion of some experts who have written articles on the subject. In addition to the analysis of each of the answers of the respondents, the concepts of effectiveness are analyzed to help understand more precisely what is exposed in this research.Especializació

    Get PDF
Researchers have begun to focus attention on the participation of teacher educators in communities of practice (CoPs) and the role that participation plays in improving the quality of teacher education. This case study explores an inter-university CoP (sustained for over 10 years) that includes four faculty members at three universities, who work collaboratively on teacher education program development (e.g., accreditation), research, and service. This exploration is situated in the literature on CoPs, professional capital, and teacher educators’ involvement in CoPs. In this paper the evolution of this inter-university CoP and each CoP member’s personal meaning is shared. Key influences of this involvement in our professional learning (PL) and suggestions for teacher educators’ PL as members of an academic community are offered

Tau mRNA is present in axonal RNA granules and is associated with elongation factor 1A

The microtubule-associated protein tau is predominantly localized in the axonal compartment over the entire length of the axon in neurons. The mechanisms responsible for the localization of tau in axons at long distance from the cell body are not properly understood. Using fluorescence in situ hybridization, we show that tau mRNA is present in the central and distal parts of the axons of cultured rat cortical neurons. Axonal tau mRNA is associated with granules which are distributed throughout the entire length of the axon, including the growth cone. We also show that tau mRNA-containing axonal particles are associated with elongation factor 1A, a component of the protein translation machinery. The presence of tau mRNA in axons might be at least part of the process by which tau is localized to distal axons

The production of Avena sativa AV25-T (Altoandina) silage as a business model for the higher tropics of Colombia

    Get PDF
Dairy production in the Colombian higher tropics (>2,000 m elevation) depends on the climatic conditions. Because of climatic variability, the availability of forage resources for animal feeding is affected throughout the year, generating seasonally marked dairy production. Silage production as a business model is a viable option in financial terms for producer associations. Limitations in access to machinery and technical assistance affect the adoption of this practice among independent smallholder and medium-sized producers. The forage oat Avena sativa AV25-T (Altoandina) has technical characteristics that favor its use as silage rather than the commonly used Porva maize (e.g., precocity, lower costs). Likewise, the production of oat silage generates higher economic benefits than the production of maize silage

    Get PDF
[EN] In the Anthropocene, there are changes in the composition of freshwater due to pollution derived from point and non-point sources. In this work, zeolites, which are materials with the most diverse applications, are presented as an alternative to mitigate the changes mentioned above through the control of non-point sources, emphasizing those of urban origin. To do this, the most common strategies to face the problem represented by these sources of pollution, in particular green and blue infrastructure, are reviewed. Likewise, the characteristics and properties of natural, synthetic, and modified zeolites are detailed, as well as examples of their use in non-point water source control systems.
