    Get PDF
Joumalistic Information is conveyed through different media: press, radio, television, the web, etc. The latter have their ownfeatures that obviously influence the contents of news, so much so that they become a language which says things to audiences. Technical aspects of the press are discussed along with the reasons why certain news is presented in certain ways. Proper interpretation will enable the reader to better understand the contents of information. This article closes with comments on the evolving adaptation of newspapers to the visual demands of audiences andthefitture ofprint publication.Publicad

URBANO: A Tour-Guide Robot Learning to Make Better Speeches

    Get PDF
—Thanks to the numerous attempts that are being made to develop autonomous robots, increasingly intelligent and cognitive skills are allowed. This paper proposes an automatic presentation generator for a robot guide, which is considered one more cognitive skill. The presentations are made up of groups of paragraphs. The selection of the best paragraphs is based on a semantic understanding of the characteristics of the paragraphs, on the restrictions defined for the presentation and by the quality criteria appropriate for a public presentation. This work is part of the ROBONAUTA project of the Intelligent Control Research Group at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid to create "awareness" in a robot guide. The software developed in the project has been verified on the tour-guide robot Urbano. The most important aspect of this proposal is that the design uses learning as the means to optimize the quality of the presentations. To achieve this goal, the system has to perform the optimized decision making, in different phases. The modeling of the quality index of the presentation is made using fuzzy logic and it represents the beliefs of the robot about what is good, bad, or indifferent about a presentation. This fuzzy system is used to select the most appropriate group of paragraphs for a presentation. The beliefs of the robot continue to evolving in order to coincide with the opinions of the public. It uses a genetic algorithm for the evolution of the rules. With this tool, the tour guide-robot shows the presentation, which satisfies the objectives and restrictions, and automatically it identifies the best paragraphs in order to find the most suitable set of contents for every public profil

    Get PDF

Reducing Self-Stigma in People with Severe Mental Illness Participating in a Regular Football League: An Exploratory Study

    Get PDF
For the past 15 years, a regular indoor football competition has been taking place in Madrid (Spain) with 15 teams from different mental health services in the city, in which teams face off weekly as part of a competition lasting nine months of the year. We are not aware of whether a similar competition experience is offered in other cities. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate whether participating in this league, called Ligasame, has an influence on participants’ self-stigma. To do so, the Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness scale (ISMI) was adapted into Spanish and applied to 108 mental health patients, 40% of which participated in Ligasame, and the remainder of which did not. The results obtained reflect significant differences between those participating in Ligasame and those that did not in terms of two specific dimensions related to self-stigma (stereotype endorsement and stigma resistance) and total score. On the other hand, no significant differences were found in terms of other variables, such as patients’ prior diagnosis, age or belonging to different resources/associations. In this article, we discuss the importance of these results in relation to reducing self-stigma through participation in a regular yearly mental health football league

Preventive conservation and sustainability of heritage collections in transit

This paper aims to present the complexity of the preventive conservation and sustainability of the collections that are included in the temporary exhibition ‘Auschwitz. Not Long Ago. Not Far Away’, opened in Madrid in December 2017 and scheduled to travel to new destinations over the next 7 years. It was produced in co-operation with the State Museum of Auschwitz-Birkenau, Poland. The exhibit objects belong to more than twenty international collections concerned with the Heritage of the Holocaust. The methodology to analyze the sustainability of a traveling exhibition has been introduced, in the stage of the preparation, production, assembly, operation, disassembly, and transportation to the next venue, in order to take into consideration the whole Life Cycle of the exhibition. The indicators to consider its impact in the three dimensions of sustainability: environmental, economic and social has been proposed.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
