A Bayesian model for longitudinal circular data

    Get PDF
The analysis of short longitudinal series of circular data may be problematic and to some extent has not been completely developed. In this paper we present a Bayesian analysis of a model for such data. The model is based on a radial projection onto the circle of a particular bivariate normal distribution. Inferences about the parameters of the model are based on samples from the corresponding joint posterior density which are obtained using a Metropolis-within-Gibbs scheme after the introduction of suitable latent variables. The procedure is illustrated both using a simulated data set and a realdata set previously analyzed in the literature.Circular data, Longitudinal data, Gibbs sampler, Latent variables, Mixed-effects linear models, Projected normal distribution

Interculturalidad y educación lingüística del alumnado inmigrante de la provincia de Almería: un estudio de caso

    Get PDF

Emergent low-energy bound states in the two-orbital Hubbard model

A repulsive Coulomb interaction between electrons in different orbitals in correlated materials can give rise to bound quasiparticle states. We study the nonhybridized two-orbital Hubbard model with intra- (inter)orbital interaction U(U12) and different bandwidths using an improved dynamical mean-field theory numerical technique which leads to reliable spectra on the real energy axis directly at zero temperature. We find that a finite density of states at the Fermi energy in one band is correlated with the emergence of well-defined quasiparticle states at excited energies Δ=U-U12 in the other band. These excitations are interband holon-doublon bound states. At the symmetric point U=U12, the quasiparticle peaks are located at the Fermi energy, leading to a simultaneous and continuous Mott transition settling a long-standing controversy.Fil: Núñez Fernández, Yuriel. Spin wave vortex from the scattering on Bloch point solitons

The interaction of a spin wave with a stationary Bloch point is studied. The topological non-trivial structure of the Bloch point manifests in the propagation of spin waves endowing them with a gauge potential that resembles the one associated with the interaction of a magnetic monopole and an electron. By pursuing this analogy, we are led to the conclusion that the scattering of spin waves and Bloch points is accompanied by the creation of a magnon vortex. Interference between such a vortex and a plane wave leads to dislocations in the interference pattern that can be measurable by means of magnon holography

A New Twist in the Regulation of Legionella Replication through ASC and Caspase-1

The recognition of bacteria is mediated by host pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) that detect conserved microbial structures and activate immune responses against the pathogen. These PRRs include membrane-bound toll-like receptors (TLRs) and cytosolic nod-like receptors (NLRs). In response to bacterial recognition, TLRs and several NLRs induce transcriptional induction of inflammatory and antimicrobial genes as well as type I IFNs. In addition, a set of NLRs including NLRP1, NLRP3, and NLRC4 is responsible for triggering the activation of the inflammasome, a molecular platform that drives the activatio
