Long-term strict raw food diet is associated with favourable plasma b-carotene and low plasma lycopene concentrations in Germans
Dietary carotenoids are associated with a reduced risk of chronic diseases. Raw food diets are predominantly plant-based diets that are practised
with the intention of preventing chronic diseases by virtue of their high content of beneficial nutritive substances such as carotenoids. However, the
benefit of a long-term adherence to these diets is controversial since little is known about their adequacy. Therefore, we investigated vitamin A and
carotenoid status and related food sources in raw food diet adherents in Germany. Dietary vitamin A, carotenoid intake, plasma retinol and plasma
carotenoids were determined in 198 (ninety-two male and 106 female) strict raw food diet adherents in a cross-sectional study. Raw food diet
adherents consumed on average 95 weight% of their total food intake as raw food (approximately 1800 g/d), mainly fruits. Raw food diet adherents
had an intake of 1301 retinol activity equivalents/d and 16·7 mg/d carotenoids. Plasma vitamin A status was normal in 82% of the subjects
(0·88 mmol/l). In 77% of subjects the lycopene
status was below the reference values for average healthy populations (,0·45mmol/l). Fat contained in fruits, vegetables and nuts and oil consumption was a significant dietary determinant of plasma carotenoid concentrations (b-carotene r 0·284; P,0·05; lycopene r 0·168; P¼0·024).

Three-Neutrino Mixing after the First Results from K2K and KamLAND
We analyze the impact of the data on long baseline \nu_\mu disappearance from
the K2K experiment and reactor \bar\nu_e disappearance from the KamLAND
experiment on the determination of the leptonic three-generation mixing
parameters. Performing an up-to-date global analysis of solar, atmospheric,
reactor and long baseline neutrino data in the context of three-neutrino
oscillations, we determine the presently allowed ranges of masses and mixing
and we consistently derive the allowed magnitude of the elements of the
leptonic mixing matrix. We also quantify the maximum allowed contribution of
\Delta m^2_{21} oscillations to CP-odd and CP-even observables at future long
baseline experiments.Comment: Some typos correcte
Constraining neutrino oscillation parameters with current solar and atmospheric data
We analyze the impact of recent solar, atmospheric and reactor data in the
determination of the neutrino oscillation parameters, taking into account that
both the solar nu_e and the atmospheric nu_mu may convert to a mixture of
active and sterile neutrinos. We use the most recent global solar neutrino
data, including the 1496-day Super-K neutrino data sample, and we investigate
in detail the impact of the SNO neutral current, spectral and day/night data by
performing also an analysis using only the charged current rate from SNO. The
implications of the first 145.1 days of KamLAND data on the determination of
the solar neutrino parameters are also discussed in detail. We confirm the
clear preference of solar+reactor data for the pure active LMA-MSW solution of
the solar neutrino problem, and obtain that the LOW, VAC, SMA and Just-So^2
solutions are disfavored with a Delta_chi^2 = 22, 22, 36, 44, respectively.
Furthermore, we find that the global solar data constrains the admixture of a
sterile neutrino to be less than 43% at 99% CL. By performing an improved fit
of the atmospheric data, we also update the corresponding regions of
oscillation parameters. We find that the recent atmospheric Super-K (1489-day)
and MACRO data have a strong impact on constraining a sterile component in
atmospheric oscillations: if the nu_mu is restricted to the atmospheric mass
states only a sterile admixture of 16% is allowed at 99% CL, while a bound of
35% is obtained in the unconstrained case. Pure sterile oscillations are
disfavored with a Delta_chi^2 = 34.6 compared to the pure active case.Comment: 28 pages, LaTeX file using RevTEX4, 12 figures and 3 tables included.

Solar Neutrinos Before and After KamLAND
We use the recently reported KamLAND measurements on oscillations of reactor
anti-neutrinos, together with the data of previously reported solar neutrino
experiments, to show that: (1) the total 8B neutrino flux emitted by the Sun is
1.00(1.0 \pm 0.06) of the standard solar model (BP00) predicted flux, (2) the
KamLAND measurements reduce the area of the globally allowed oscillation
regions that must be explored in model fitting by six orders of magnitude in
the Delta m^2-tan^2 theta plane, (3) LMA is now the unique oscillation solution
to a CL of 4.7sigma, (4) maximal mixing is disfavored at 3.1 sigma, (5)
active-sterile admixtures are constrained to sin^2 eta<0.13 at 1 sigma, (6) the
observed ^8B flux that is in the form of sterile neutrinos is
0.00^{+0.09}_{-0.00} (1 sigma), of the standard solar model (BP00) predicted
flux, and (7) non-standard solar models that were invented to completely avoid
solar neutrino oscillations are excluded by KamLAND plus solar at 7.9 sigma .
We also refine quantitative predictions for future 7Be and p-p solar neutrino

Expectativa De Enfermeiros Brasileiros Acerca Do Acolhimento Realizado Na Atenção Primária Em Saúde
Objective: To know the expectations of Brazilians nurses in relation to the reception held for them at the Primary Health Care. Method: This is a qualitative study based on the social phenomenology by Alfred Schutz. Results: The nurses report that the host is something far from their reality, dependent on policy, management, population and physical structure of the workplace. Conclusion: The findings of this study showed that the reality of care performed by nurses in primary health care is characterized by calls for the evaluation of acute complaints, and that the solution to the host be ideal, providing changes in the relationship between him and the user they require far capabilities of its reality, which was called in this study magic output. It was evident that for nurses the reorganization of the host and their work process depends only on external factors to their actions, forgetting its commitment to provide a humanized care and based on the application of its relational competence. © 2016, Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Analysis of a spatial Lotka-Volterra model with a finite range predator-prey interaction
We perform an analysis of a recent spatial version of the classical
Lotka-Volterra model, where a finite scale controls individuals' interaction.
We study the behavior of the predator-prey dynamics in physical spaces higher
than one, showing how spatial patterns can emerge for some values of the

Spatially explicit estimates of N2O emissions from croplands suggest climate mitigation opportunities from improved fertilizer management
With increasing nitrogen (N) application to croplands required to support growing food demand, mitigating N2O emissions from agricultural soils is a global challenge. National greenhouse gas emissions accounting typically estimates N2O emissions at the country scale by aggregating all crops, under the assumption that N2O emissions are linearly related to N application. However, field studies and meta-analyses indicate a nonlinear relationship, in which N2O emissions are relatively greater at higher N application rates. Here we apply a super-linear emissions response model to crop-specific, spatially-explicit synthetic N fertilizer and manure N inputs to provide subnational accounting of global N2O emissions from croplands. We estimate 0.66 Tg of N2O-N direct global emissions circa 2000, with 50% of emissions concentrated in 13% of harvested area. Compared to estimates from the IPCC Tier 1 linear model, our updated N2O emissions range from 20-40% lower throughout Sub-Saharan Africa and Eastern Europe, to >120% greater in some Western European countries. At low N application rates, the weak non-linear response of N2O emissions suggests that relatively large increases in N fertilizer application would generate relatively small increases in N2O emissions. Since aggregated fertilizer data generate underestimation bias in nonlinear models, high-resolution N application data are critical to support accurate N2O emissions estimates
Status of a hybrid three-neutrino interpretation of neutrino data
We reanalyze the non-standard interaction (NSI) solutions to the solar
neutrino problem in the light of the latest solar, atmospheric and reactor
neutrino data. We show that such solutions, although preferred by the solar
data and consistent with the oscillation description of the atmospheric
neutrino data, are ruled out by the first results of the KamLAND reactor
