Controllability and universal three-qubit quantum computation with trapped electron states
We show how to control and perform universal three-qubit quantum computation
with trapped electron quantum states. The three qubits are the electron spin,
and the first two quantum states of the cyclotron and axial harmonic
oscillators. We explicitly show how the universal gates can be performed. As an
example of a non-trivial quantum algorithm, we outline the implementation of

Results of the MAJORANA DEMONSTRATOR's Search for Double-Beta Decay of 76Ge to Excited States of 76Se
The MAJORANA DEMONSTRATOR is searching for double-beta decay of 76Ge to excited states (E.S.) in 76Se using a modular array of high purity Germanium detectors. 76Ge can decay into three E.S.s of 76Se. The E.S. decays have a clear event signature consisting of a ββ-decay with the prompt emission of one or two γ-rays, resulting in with high probability in a multi-site event. The granularity of the DEMONSTRATOR detector array enables powerful discrimination of this event signature from backgrounds. Using 21.3 kg-y of isotopic exposure, the DEMONSTRATOR has set world leading limits for each E.S. decay, with 90% CL lower half-life limits in the range of (0.56 2.1) ⋅ 1024 y. In particular, for the 2v transition to the first 0+ E.S. of 76Se, a lower half-life limit of 0.68 ⋅ 1024 at 90% CL was achieved

ADC Nonlinearity Correction for the Majorana Demonstrator
Imperfections in analog-to-digital conversion (ADC) cannot be ignored when signal digitization requirements demand both wide dynamic range and high resolution, as is the case for the Majorana Demonstrator 76Ge neutrinoless double-beta decay search. Enabling the experiment's high-resolution spectral analysis and efficient pulse shape discrimination required careful measurement and correction of ADC nonlinearities. A simple measurement protocol was developed that did not require sophisticated equipment or lengthy data-taking campaigns. A slope-dependent hysteresis was observed and characterized. A correction applied to digitized waveforms prior to signal processing reduced the differential and integral nonlinearities by an order of magnitude, eliminating these as dominant contributions to the systematic energy uncertainty at the double-beta decay Q value
¿“Nos enfrentamos y nos abrazamos”? Un nuevo recorrido por los usos oficiales del pasado durante el bicentenario de la Revolución de Mayo
El presente trabajo analiza, en primer lugar, los modos en que la historia argentina se tradujo, durante los festejos oficiales del bicentenario de la Revolución de Mayo, en artefactos culturales y festivos dirigidos a atraer un público vasto, prestando especial atención a los usos del pasado allí exhibidos. En segundo lugar, pone en relación dichas operaciones con las variaciones ocurridas en el nivel de las prácticas políticas gubernamentales tras la crisis política de 2008. En última instancia, se plantea que el gobierno de Cristina Fernández de Kirchner se inclinó, al momento de proyectar el festejo patrio en cuestión, por una lógica discursiva liberal–centrada, especialmente, en el consenso inclusivo y la aceptación de las diferencias–con el fin de matizar la partición del espacio socio-político, exhibir una nación reconciliada, interpelar a la sociedad argentina en su conjunto y, de ese modo, contribuir a la reconstrucción de su hegemonía política.Firstly, this paper analyzes how Argentinian history was translated, during the national celebrations of the May Revolution bicentennial, into cultural and festive devices aimed at attracting a massive audience, paying special attention to the uses of the past displayed. Secondly, it illustrates the relations between these operations and the variations of government policy that occurred after the 2008 political crisis. n-Alkanes, PAHs and surfactants in the sea surface microlayer and sea water samples of the Gerlache Inlet sea (Antarctica)
Sea surface microlayer (SML) and sea water samples (SSW) collected in the Gerlache Inlet Sea (Antarctica)
were analysed for n-alkanes and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). The SML is a potential enrichment
site of hydrophobic organic compounds compared to the underlying water column. Total concentration
ranges of n-alkanes and PAHs (dissolved and particulate) in subsurface water (−0.5 m depth) were 272–
553 ng l−1 (mean: 448 ng l−1) and 5.27–9.43 ng l−1 (mean: 7.06 ng l−1), respectively. In the SML, the
concentration ranges of n-alkanes and PAHs were 353–968 ng l−1 (mean: 611 ng l−1) and 7.32–23.94 ng l−1
(mean: 13.22 ng l−1), respectively. To evaluate possible PAH contamination sources, specific PAH ratios were
calculated. The ratios reflected a predominant petrogenic input. A characterisation of surface active
substances was also performed on SML and SSW samples, both by gas bubble extraction, and by dynamic
surface tension measurements. Results showed a good correlation between n-alkanes, PAHs and refractory
organic matter
PCBs and PAHs in sea-surface microlayer and sub-surfacewater samples of the Venice Lagoon (Italy)
Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are two classes of micropollutants intensively monitored
and regulated due to their toxicity, persistency and wide diffusion. Their concentrations have been investigated in sea-microlayer
(SML) and sub-surface water (SSW) samples collected at two sites of the Venice Lagoon, a fragile ecosystem highly influenced by industrial
and anthropogenic emissions. The total PPCB concentration varies from 0.45 ng/l to 2.1 ng/l in SSW while a clear enrichment is
observed in the SML, where it ranges from 1.2 ng/l to 10.5 ng/l. The total PPAH concentration shows marked differences between the
two stations and varies from 12.4 ng/l to 266.8 ng/l in SSW; in SML it is more uniform and ranges from 19.6 ng/l to 178.9 ng/l. The
enrichment factors are not larger than 1 for both pollutants in the dissolved phase, while they are most significant for the particulate
phase (PPCB: 5–9; PPAH: 4–14).

-event Characterization and Rejection in Point-Contact HPGe Detectors
P-type point contact (PPC) HPGe detectors are a leading technology for rare
event searches due to their excellent energy resolution, low thresholds, and
multi-site event rejection capabilities. We have characterized a PPC detector's
response to particles incident on the sensitive passivated and p+
surfaces, a previously poorly-understood source of background. The detector
studied is identical to those in the MAJORANA DEMONSTRATOR experiment, a search
for neutrinoless double-beta decay () in Ge.
decays on most of the passivated surface exhibit significant energy loss due to
charge trapping, with waveforms exhibiting a delayed charge recovery (DCR)
signature caused by the slow collection of a fraction of the trapped charge.
The DCR is found to be complementary to existing methods of
identification, reliably identifying background events on the
passivated surface of the detector. We demonstrate effective rejection of all
surface events (to within statistical uncertainty) with a loss of only
0.2% of bulk events by combining the DCR discriminator with previously-used
methods. The DCR discriminator has been used to reduce the background rate in
the region of interest window by an order of magnitude in the
MAJORANA DEMONSTRATOR, and will be used in the upcoming LEGEND-200 experiment.Comment: Submitted to European Journal of Physics
