γNΔ\gamma^{*}N\Delta Form Factors from a Relativistic Dynamical Model of Pion Electroproduction

We obtain the electromagnetic form factors of the γNΔ\gamma N\Delta transition by analyzing recent pion-electroproduction data using a fully relativistic dynamical model. Special care is taken to satisfy Ward-Takahashi identities for the Born term in the presence of form factors thereby allowing the use of realistic electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon and pion. We parametrize the Q2Q^2 dependence of the {\it bare} γNΔ\gamma N \Delta form factors by a three-parameter form which is consistent with the asymptotic behavior inferred from QCD. The parameters of the bare γNΔ\gamma N \Delta form factors are the only free parameters of the model and are fitted to the differential cross-section and multipole-analysis data up to Q2=4Q^2=4 (GeV/c)2^2 in the Δ(1232)\Delta(1232)-resonance region. This analysis emphasizes the significance of the pion-cloud effects in the extraction of the resonance parameters.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures, several small corrections, to be published in Phys. Different Methods for the Two-Nucleon T-Matrix in the Operator Form

We compare three methods to calculate the nucleon-nucleon t-matrix based on the three-dimensional formulation of J. Golak et al., Phys. Rev. C 81, 034006, (2010). In the first place we solve a system of complex linear inhomogeneous equations directly for the t-matrix. Our second method is based on iterations and a variant of the Lanczos algorithm. In the third case we obtain the t-matrix in two steps, solving a system of real linear equations for the k-matrix expansion coefficients and then solving an on-shell equation, which connects the scalar coefficients of the k- and t-matrices. A very good agreement among the three methods is demonstrated for selected nucleon-nucleon scattering observables using a chiral next-to-next-to-leading-order neutron-proton potential. We also apply our three-dimensional framework to the demanding problem of proton-proton scattering, using a corresponding version of the nucleon-nucleon potential and supplementing it with the (screened) Coulomb force, taken also in the three-dimensional form. We show converged results for two different screening functions and find a very good agreement with other methods dealing with proton-proton scattering.Comment: 18 pages, 10 figures (54 eps files

Pseudovector vs. pseudoscalar coupling in one-boson exchange NN potentials

We examine the effects of pseudoscalar and pseudovector coupling of the pi and eta mesons in one-boson exchange models of the NN interaction using two approaches: time-ordered perturbation theory unitarized with the relativistic Lippmann-Schwinger equation, and a reduced Bethe-Salpeter equation approach using the Thompson equation. Contact terms in the one-boson exchange amplitudes in time-ordered perturbation theory lead naturally to the introduction of s-channel nucleonic cutoffs for the interaction, which strongly suppresses the far off-shell behavior of the amplitudes in both approaches. Differences between the resulting NN predictions of the various models are found to be small, and particularly so when coupling constants of the other mesons are readjusted within reasonable limits.Comment: 24 pages, 4 figure

The role of temporary accommodation buildings for post-disaster housing reconstruction

    Get PDF
The number of houses damaged or destroyed after disasters is frequently large, and re-housing of homeless people is one of the most important tasks of reconstruction programmes. Reconstruction works often last long and during that time, it is essential to provide victims with the minimum conditions to live with dignity, privacy, and protection. This research intends to demonstrate the crucial role of temporary accommodation buildings to provide spaces where people can live and gradually resume their life until they have a permanent house. The study also aims to identify the main problems of temporary accommodation strategies and to discuss some principles and guidelines in order to reach better design solutions. It is found that temporary accommodation is an issue that goes beyond the simple provision of buildings, since the whole space for temporary settlement is important. Likewise, temporary accommodation is a process that should start before a disaster occurs, as a preventive pre-planning. In spite of being temporary constructions, these housing buildings are one of the most important elements to provide in emergency scenarios, contributing for better recovery and reconstruction actions. The first author gratefully acknowledges the financial support of Fundacao para a Ciencia e a Tecnologia, FCT, through grant SFRH/BD/73853/2010

A Covariant model for the nucleon and the Δ\Delta

The covariant spectator formalism is used to model the nucleon and the Δ\Delta(1232) as a system of three constituent quarks with their own electromagnetic structure. The definition of the ``fixed-axis'' polarization states for the diquark emitted from the initial state vertex and absorbed into the final state vertex is discussed. The helicity sum over those states is evaluated and seen to be covariant. Using this approach, all four electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon, together with the {\it magnetic} form factor, GMG_M^*, for the γNΔ\gamma N \to \Delta transition, can be described using manifestly covariant nucleon and Δ\Delta wave functions with {\it zero} orbital angular momentum LL, but a successful description of GMG_M^* near Q2=0Q^2=0 requires the addition of a pion cloud term not included in the class of valence quark models considered here. We also show that the pure SS-wave model gives electric, GEG_E^*, and coulomb, GCG^*_C, transition form factors that are identically zero, showing that these form factors are sensitive to wave function components with L>0L>0.Comment: 20 pages, 5 figures, 2 table

Study of e+eppˉe^+e^- \rightarrow p\bar{p} in the vicinity of ψ(3770)\psi(3770)

Using 2917 pb1\rm{pb}^{-1} of data accumulated at 3.773~GeV\rm{GeV}, 44.5~pb1\rm{pb}^{-1} of data accumulated at 3.65~GeV\rm{GeV} and data accumulated during a ψ(3770)\psi(3770) line-shape scan with the BESIII detector, the reaction e+eppˉe^+e^-\rightarrow p\bar{p} is studied considering a possible interference between resonant and continuum amplitudes. The cross section of e+eψ(3770)ppˉe^+e^-\rightarrow\psi(3770)\rightarrow p\bar{p}, σ(e+eψ(3770)ppˉ)\sigma(e^+e^-\rightarrow\psi(3770)\rightarrow p\bar{p}), is found to have two solutions, determined to be (0.059±0.032±0.0120.059\pm0.032\pm0.012) pb with the phase angle ϕ=(255.8±37.9±4.8)\phi = (255.8\pm37.9\pm4.8)^\circ (<<0.11 pb at the 90% confidence level), or σ(e+eψ(3770)ppˉ)=(2.57±0.12±0.12\sigma(e^+e^-\rightarrow\psi(3770)\rightarrow p\bar{p}) = (2.57\pm0.12\pm0.12) pb with ϕ=(266.9±6.1±0.9)\phi = (266.9\pm6.1\pm0.9)^\circ both of which agree with a destructive interference. Using the obtained cross section of ψ(3770)ppˉ\psi(3770)\rightarrow p\bar{p}, the cross section of ppˉψ(3770)p\bar{p}\rightarrow \psi(3770), which is useful information for the future PANDA experiment, is estimated to be either (9.8±5.79.8\pm5.7) nb (<17.2<17.2 nb at 90% C.L.) or (425.6±42.9)(425.6\pm42.9) nb
