Challenging the pro-development role of trade agreements when remoteness counts: the Ecuadorian experience

The question whether global financial integration is beneficial for everyone remains highly disputed. It is often assumed that financial globalization involves threshold effects, where integration is worthwhile only when certain preconditions are met. However, it has also been noted that financial account liberalization also brings about considerable additional indirect benefits. These indirect benefits are often the same as the preconditions, such that there exists a complex two-way relationship between financial globalization and the preconditions/additional benefits. Such a relationship can lead to financial globalization traps, where some economies are trapped at a low level stable equilibrium, while others enjoy ever increasing financial integration. In this paper, we use de facto indicators of international financial integration to investigate if the dynamics of financial integration exhibit signs of such thresholds and traps. We present a parametric way of estimating these important parameters, based on recently developed sample splitting and threshold estimation methods. We find that there are indeed signs of multiple equilibriums if we look at the growth rates of total assets and liabilities. We also find that a group of countries are apparently caught in a high debt stock trap.

The University now is the managing three substantive core functions: teaching, research, and links, all go hand in the teaching-learning process, the interesting thing about this idea is that the Higher Education Center becomes the main axis of knowledge. The objective of this research is to know the way that Higher Education Institutions have raised their incidence in local development. Deepening, from the studies conducted in the processes of linkage, which is where the relationship with their teaching activities has established of research and where quality preparation has given to the students, allowing them to satisfy the requirements of the productive matrix of the province. The career of Industrial Engineering has taken for the study because this is the fundamental pillar in supporting the change of productive matrix of the province. From the knowledge of the agro-economic values that can contribute to local development and as a result of this research it has been determined that they have affected the territory surrounding the Institution in projects that enhance local development, shown in its actions in the Municipal Gad of Portoviejo

Today enterprises address the problem of inventory management, because depending on the company have a large quantity of items that represent costs. For this reason has been the need to develop a solution prior to a management level strategic planning to support decision making, enabling improved performance and getting resources to optimize efficiency and allowing the deployment of strategic initiatives. With the solution for automating the inventory-making process, the company will benefit as control and reduce the risk of loss of inventory, significantly reducing time in the process, saving operating costs - administrative, reliability, on-line registration physical taking, and speed in obtaining results, and also avoid closing stores and losing sales opportunities. These benefits and improvements will enable the firm to obtain better manage their inventories thus increased productivity

This data article presents files supporting calculation for urban heat island (UHI) inclusion in building performance simulation (BPS). Methodology is used in the research article “From urban climate to energy consumption. Enhancing building performance simulation by including the urban heat island effect” (Palme et al., 2017) [1]. In this research, a Geographical Information System (GIS) study is done in order to statistically represent the most important urban scenarios of four South-American cities (Guayaquil, Lima, Antofagasta and Valparaíso). Then, a Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is done to obtain reference Urban Tissues Categories (UTC) to be used in urban weather simulation. The urban weather files are generated by using the Urban Weather Generator (UWG) software (version 4.1 beta). Finally, BPS is run out with the Transient System Simulation (TRNSYS) software (version 17). In this data paper, four sets of data are presented: 1) PCA data (excel) to explain how to group different urban samples in representative UTC; 2) UWG data (text) to reproduce the Urban Weather Generation for the UTC used in the four cities (4 UTC in Lima, Guayaquil, Antofagasta and 5 UTC in Valparaíso); 3) weather data (text) with the resulting rural and urban weather; 4) BPS models (text) data containing the TRNSYS models (four building models)

The paper presents a proposal related to the implementation of an Inter-University Network and Research Centers in the Ibero-American area, related to the management of spatial information using the Techniques of Information Technology and Communications (ICT), where it is proposed as a coordinating center and manager of knowledge to the Technical University of Manabí for having special geographical conditions and professionals with experience in the management of spatial databases and Geoportals. Universities and research centers are a reservoir of knowledge with high potential for the scientific and technical development of society. The Technical University of Manabí in Ecuador is an institution committed to the future of society, which outlines its vision of work in the implementation of projects that allow the use of technical and professional skills of students and teachers. In the current decade, projects are being developed at an international level aimed at strengthening the role of spatial information for the management of sustainable development on a social scale. Geographic information systems (GIS) and computer and communications (TIC) techniques have demonstrated their versatility to be applied to different lines of work and projects

Analysis and design of wastewater treatment

The work proposes the reuse of wastewater from the Faculty of Agronomic Engineering of the Technical University of Manabí, located in the Lodana parish in the city of Portoviejo, to irrigate the diversity of plantations that exist in the institution as a banana, cocoa and lemon. In the work, the results of the physical-chemical and bacteriological analysis carried out on the residual water generated in the institution are offered, being able to verify that it does not meet the parameters required to be used in the irrigation of crops. The technical scheme of the proposed treatment system is shown, specifying the structure of the zeolite filter. The calculations made for the technical and structural design of each of the devices that make up the proposed treatment system are provided. The analysis of the performance of the system that is illustrated with a series of data reflected in tables is exposed and where an efficiency between 84% and 88% can be verified. A review of compliance with environmental regulations is carried out and an economic analysis is provided on the cost of the investment for the introduction of the system in the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering of the Technical University of Manabí

If the concept, of the university, has taken as a reference it can be affirmed, that it is the academic institution of higher education, research, and relationship with society. Which grants academic degrees in different disciplines, in order to make the economic and social development of the community professionally viable, and the contribution it offers is practically essential, especially as it relates to the link between the human resource that leaves and its influence on the local development of the society. A conscientious study has made the indicators that influence this interactive process of experiences, wisdom, and knowledge by development, work, stability, in the environment where they operate. There are factors that influence and determine that the development of a social conglomerate does not correspond to the number of professionals who graduate from university classrooms. To determine the development is growing or not, the possible causes generate it has analyzed and secondly, strategies have proposed in which the main actors of the change participate. The province of Manabí has characterized by significant economic activity in the agricultural field, with the ideal conditions to originate growth and development; however, there are high levels of unemployment
